The Extended Slurs and Major Scales are some of the necessary basics every brass player must practice, and it can really help to improve the skills for playing in the low (and high) register. These two areas are only part of my overall routine and warm-up. I would be happy if other bass trombonists could benefit from what I have gathered and written down over the years. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.792059). Exegesis is an unaccompanied solo for Bass Trombone written by American composer and Bass Trombonist Philip Brink in 1973. The work of about 4 minutes in length is appropriate for very advanced performers and requires the use of multi-phonics and other technical challenges. Below is a brief instruction to the performer from the composer. The rhythmic notation of Exegesis is fairly free; sections in traditional notation should approximate those rhythmic patterns, while arbitrarily long notes, rests or patterns should be as long as possible. The score hints at but does not make explicit any particular dramatic action or effect, which it is left to the performer to create or not. Most of the instructions are on the score and fairly easy to follow. The Beams that crescendo and diminuendo relate to acceleration or deceleration as indicated. There are odd little notes, like secretive in the first line - in these instances do whatever comes to mind as giving an impression of secrecy - change in volume, tone, or whatever - even a hand gesture! The composer gives detailed instructions in the score for the listener and the performer, helping with the interpretation and appreciation of this work.

A visual stereogram represents a 3-D image while looking though a pair of 2-D images. There are special viewers that are used to give this effect where two images viewed through the special device can give a 3-D or stereographic effect. Brubeck's Stereograms for Bass Clef Instruments are musical versions of the graphic form. Brubeck uses familiar folk melodies to create his Stereograms and adds jazzy twists to many of them. The musical version may contain two or three individual parts within a single melodic line, thus the musical 3-D Stereogram is created. Bach’s unaccompanied works have underlying multiple parts in them and Brubeck has been inspired by the Master to create a similar texture in these works. They are suitable encore pieces or performance pieces, alone or grouped into ad hoc suites. Brubeck’s music requires rhythmic accuracy and multiple tonal colors, and are especially useful as sight reading tools to keep the performer sharp and on his/her toes. He has also added octave suggestions to allow them to be playable by the widest array of bass clef instruments Each Stereogram is dedicated to a special musical hero in Brubeck’s life. Excellent as study etudes or sight-reading pieces, Stereograms can be performed/practiced by Trombonists, Bass Trombonists, Tubists and Euphoniumists. The 13 melodies used in Volume I are: You Are My Sunshine, This Little Light of Mine, The Itsy Bitsy Spider, When the Saints Go Marching In, Just a Closer Walk With Thee, Frère Jacques, On Top of Old Smokey, If You're Happy and You Know It, London Bridge is Falling Down, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Jesus Loves Me, Have You Ever Seen a Lassie, Go Tell Aunt Rhody.

The Five pieces of music which are now known as the Suite for the Mechanical Organ or the Suite for Mechanical Clock (WoO33) surfaced after Beethoven's death, bringing with them several very puzzling mysteries. Most challenging of them all was the instrument for which they were written. Piano, strings, harp and most other common instruments were instantly ruled out, building on the perplexing mystery and adding to the frustration. Eventually, Albert Kopfermann set forth a convincing argument that their strange scoring seemed a perfect fit for the Flötenuhr or Spielühr, a mechanical organ or clock. He observed that the notation in No. 1, in F, matched that in Mozart's K. 608 Fantasia (for Flötenuhr), the score of which Beethoven possessed. Other circumstantial factors pointed to the Flötenuhr as the instrument Beethoven designed these pieces for. None of these five pieces was published until the twentieth century, and, not surprisingly, all are rarely heard.This is my arrangement of Mvt 3 Allegro for a brass trio of 3 euphoniums/ trombones.It will work work equally well with any three similar bass clef brass instruments or a mix of euphs and tuba.Trombonists will obviously ignore the trills in part 1.I have simplified some of the semi quaver passages, and moved some of the notes to fit within the range of the instrument(s).Fun for all 3 players.Enjoy!!

Other accompanying moving lines around the entire ensemble will keep things interesting for everybody. While the lead trombone part spends a little bit of time in the upper register, and there are a few characteristic lower notes for the bass trombonist, there aren’t many other technical challenges making for an accessible chart for a broad range of skill levels.
