INTERMEZZO (Cavalleria Rusticana) - 4 GUITARS/LARGE ENSEMBLEFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes The opera Cavalleria Rusticana opened on 17 May 1890 in Rome to a half empty house. However, the audience included not only the most authoritative music critics in the country but also Queen Margherita, a great music lover. It was a success from its opening notes. Following Stagno's rendition of the Siciliana behind the curtain the audience leaped to their feet with a thunderous applause not heard for many years. Mascagni took 40 curtain calls.The intermezzo is an orchestra interlude that most people recognise, that far fewer can name, and virtually no-one can identify the composer. My arrangement was inspired by hearing the original orchestral version at the funeral of Bill, a fellow guitarist, and this is my tribute to him - an arrangement for 4 guitars.In order to make the very best of the compass of the guitar, I’ve had to change to pitch a little, but it makes it all the more playable.The tempo is slow - really slow and relaxed. I’ve not added fingering, because although much can be played in low positions, you may well find that there is plenty of time to take much of the piece up the neck, where the guitar really comes alive.I hope you enjoy performing this!

The seven modesThis collection of PDFs is something I am very proud of and I believe it has been my most well recieved PDF upload on the internet. Finding chord charts that simply list chords are a dime a dozen, and can be found anywhere. It is much rarer for a chord sheet to try to explain what order they go in and even rarer still to find it for guitar. It's difficult because it is an art, and of course there really is no wrong answers in composing (especially on Halloween I always joke). I personally haven't seen anything else quite like this on the internet.Many music theory books seem abstract and impractical whereas these chord charts show music theory applied to guitar. The aim is to memorize them so that you can understand them in all 12 keys. These chord progressions are of course a great composition aid. Tips:1. I find sheets like this to be excellent practice to play by ear. If the music is relaxing I play blue chords, if it is intense I play red chords. Once you get into the groove, and you know no one is changing key, it's as simple as that.2. When playing by ear, even if you get the exact chord wrong but you still get the correct color, it will still sound like you harmonizing the song correctly!!! See chords categorized by purpose rather than name will elegantly simplify how music actually works.3. The reason why we study the roman numerals is to be able to think about all of music in a single keyless key to allow for optimum clarity.4. One issue that needs to be fixed: what to do about the 11 other keys? One easy and quick fix is to use a guitar capo (or downtune) to get to all the other keys. I can't imagine giving out 56 pages of chord progressions to each of my students, it's way too much. Instead, I teach strategies on how these work in all 12 keys. 5. Order = Blue, Yellow, Red, Blue for stereotypical chord progressions that truely progress. These is such a thing called a chord succession where it is not the previous order. Again, try not to see music in terms of right and wrong. Everything expresses an emotion. For example, if there is a song devoid of red chords, it will result in more peaceful music. PRESTO (Mozart K522) The Horse Of The Year Show TV Theme - 3 GUITARS OR LARGE ENSEMBLEFor Classical or Acoustic Guitar - sometimes it's erroneously listed here as Electric Guitar.Derek Hasted writes This is part of the fourth movement - Presto - of Mozart’s K522 for string quartet and two horns. It’s commonly known as “A Musical Jokeâ€, though the correct translation is “Some Musical Funâ€. In the UK, a sanitised version with added drumbeat and electric bass was used as the TV theme music to “The Horse Of The Year Showâ€. My arrangement has just some of the thematic material of the original, yet still fills a music stand. An optional repeat extends the piece to a little over 3 minutes. Mozart intended the piece as a showcase of how NOT to write, and the Presto contains some extraordinary and modern-sounding key changes as well as some rather odd counterpoint. The original Presto finishes with an unexpected burst into 4 different keys, all sounding together after one of the longest build-ups to an ending you’ll ever hear. My setting for 3 guitars ends in 3 of the 4 keys that Mozart burst into. Most audiences would probably associate this with a catastrophic disaster, so I’ve included a second ending that stays in key for a nice happy ending! Rather than the isolated quavers (eighth notes) and rests, I’ve used staccato marks to make a version that is much easier to read yet has exactly the same articulation. I hope you enjoy this piece!

Distant Engraver Music #4804179. Published by Distant Engraver Music (A0.977049). Elements of this music can be traced to jazz, blues and classical music, but it’s not really crossover or fusion. It doesn’t sound like jazzy classical music and it certainly isn’t jazz hoping to be serious or grandiose. Its seemingly disparate impulses blend logically into a work that feels natural on its own terms. So when the saxophone plays syncopated melodies or bent pitches, it just sounds like the right thing to do. Similarly, though the inspiration for certain guitar sounds and effects came from electric-based fusion or more serious-minded rock music, those influences are probably not obvious. Of course, guitarists will bring some of their own concepts and experience into their sounds, too, but general guidelines are given on the score. The three movements of this piece are:

I’ve made a key-change compared to the original, so that the music is comfortable on guitar, and it’s really rather busy so that the audience hears a really interesting sound. There is a bell-like introduction and conclusion to the piece, and you’ll recognise the sound of Big Ben, the bell that is an iconic London sound. There are three verses so that each line has something really interesting yet accessible to play. Guitar 3 is presented in treble and bass clefs to suit classical guitar, a contra guitar or a bass instrument. It’s fine to have both versions of Guitar 3 together in your ensemble, and the bass clef version has a few edits to make sure that everything works at a sensible pitch (especially the sound of Big Ben!) I hope you enjoy playing this arrangement!

It would suit a mixed ability ensemble where the tune player is comfortable to move up the neck.The second rotates the roles so that each player takes a different role in each verse and each player has the tune at one point. It would suit a more evenly matched ensemble as the tune deserves a consistent tone and volume across the three verses.The two versions share the same notes.There’s no fingering on the score (except in a few arpeggio sections where there is a chance to minimise finger movements). This is because a more skilled ensemble might enjoy taking the parts up the neck to achieve a rounder and more lyrical tone,I hope you enjoy playing this piece!
