A visual stereogram represents a 3-D image while looking though a pair of 2-D images. There are special viewers that are used to give this effect where two images viewed through the special device can give a 3-D or stereographic effect. Brubeck's Stereograms for Bass Clef Instruments are musical versions of the graphic form. Brubeck uses familiar folk melodies to create his Stereograms and adds jazzy twists to many of them. The musical version may contain two or three individual parts within a single melodic line, thus the musical 3-D Stereogram is created. Bach’s unaccompanied works have underlying multiple parts in them and Brubeck has been inspired by the Master to create a similar texture in these works. They are suitable encore pieces or performance pieces, alone or grouped into ad hoc suites. Brubeck’s music requires rhythmic accuracy and multiple tonal colors, and are especially useful as sight reading tools to keep the performer sharp and on his/her toes. He has also added octave suggestions to allow them to be playable by the widest array of bass clef instruments Each Stereogram is dedicated to a special musical hero in Brubeck’s life. Volume II presents the performing components of jazz such as the performance of eighth notes in jazz, the creation of jazz phrases in the format of the blues and the jazz standards. There are 7 different blues formats that are presented with Preparatory Studies that include preset jazz phrases and the typical type of chord changes used in each format. The next part of the study includes Jazz Etudes that are modeled after several of the jazz standards, The chord changes are designed to be used as in an original standard but in an etude form. In honor and tribute to a mother, this is an instrumental guitar solo (with optional lyrics included), as recorded by The Candlelight Guitarist, with music and lyrics composed by Bradley Powell. The piece seemlessly blends country, jazz, folk and classical guitar styles, and the lyrics are heartfelt, warm, loving and positive.It's an intermediate level fingerstyle-classical guitar solo (comparable in difficulty to an easier Sor or Carcassi etude, or Beatle song played as intrumental solo). You can see Brad Powell's performance of the piece on the YouTube link provided below.ABOUT the composer: Brad Powell (aka The Candlelight Guitarist) began guitar at age ten, inspired by The Beatles. At 15, he became a protégé of jazz guitarist Joe Pass, and later studied classical guitar under Vincent Macaluso, and at California State University, Northridge under Ronald Purcell, with a master class under Andrés Segovia. Brad was featured performing Gerald Wilson's Sonata for Guitar and Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, with the composer conducting. Brad was mentored in composition by David Rose (composer for Little House on the Prairie). Brad has composed music for TV, including Hill Street Blues and The 'A' Team, working with Mike Post. Brad has ten albums as The Candlelight Guitarist. When not making music, Brad is often out hiking with his four dogs.
