I’ve suggested that this piece grows in volume throughout the 3 verses that I’ve arranged, and to support this, the number of notes each part has gradually increases, so that the notes have less time to die away before they are replaced. So part of the build in volume happens automagically!There are no page turns. The soundfile alongside the score is from the 3rd verse where you can hear that the sound is becoming busy and powerful. Guitar 6 requires the bottom string tuned down to D. I hope you enjoy playing this piece!

Little Suite for a Jubilee Occasion was written for the 20th anniversary of a music society. It is intended for junior players and can be performed on virtually any combination of five or more woodwind and/or brass instruments. It is based on my own experience of working with such groups.The three short movements – Prelude, Invention, Contrapunctus – are in different keys and encompass different playing styles – majestic, playful, solemn. In Prelude and Invention, a motif played in a first part is repeated in a second part, but those parts alternate, so sometimes the first part follows the second part instead.All three movements are essentially in just three parts and so in many instances different parts are actually identical, dividing only at certain places.The parts included are suitable for the instruments found in groups of learners:flute, oboe, Bb clarinet, bassoonEb alto sax, Bb tenor saxBb trumpet, F/Eb horn, trombone (TC/BC), euphonium (TC/BC), tuba, Bb/Eb bassThe high flute/oboe part is optional, likewise the xylophone and drum parts. If you are not using drummers, then simply omit measures 22 and 23 and begin the Invention at measure 24.In the Contrapunctus it might be a nice effect to double Part 5 on an organ.

Little Waltz for a Dancing Occasion is intended for junior players and can be performed on virtually any combination of five or more woodwind and/or brass instruments. It is based on my own experience of working with such groups.This waltz is perhaps a little unconventional in that it does not make use of a strong first beat – traditionally played by bass instruments – followed by weaker second and third beats. Furthermore, in this piece most of the phrases are five, seven or nine measures long, thus departing from the four- or eight-measure phrases many players will be used to. From measure 22 the melody in 3/4 time has an accompaniment that is essentially in 2/4 time; I’ve included accents here to help ensure a 2/4 feel. There’s also a rather abrupt ending which, hopefully, will take some by surprise. And everybody gets the tune at some stage, not just the usual melody instruments!The parts included are suitable for the instruments found in groups of learners:flute, oboe, Bb clarinet, bassoonEb alto sax, Bb tenor saxBb trumpet, F/Eb horn, trombone (TC/BC), euphonium (TC/BC), tuba, Bb/Eb bassThe high flute/oboe part is optional. The glockenspiel is also optional and I’ve mainly included this part so that, if you have a drummer who needs something to do, he or she won’t be tempted to just play bass drum on first beat, snare on second and third beats!The tempo chosen will depend on the abilities of the players.Apart from maybe saving paper, writing two parts on one system does help players to learn to read such charts – something I feel all players should learn to do from an early age.

The Sarabande is serious and melodic, the March is cute, and the Fugue is an orchestrated version of my Fugue for Four Winds. You can get some idea of the sound of Sarabande and March by listening to the sound clips of the versions of them in my Seven Easy Melodies for Oboe with Piano Accompaniment, either in SheetMusicPlus or on my website, www.garyfriedmanmusic.net. The original Fugue for Four Winds may also be heard in these two places. Suitable for chamber orchestra. The Sarabande instruments are 2 each of flute, oboe, clarinet in A, bassoon, and horn, plus strings. In the March a trumpet (which has a nice short solo) and snare drum and triangle are added. In the Fugue, oboe 2 becomes English horn and a second trumpet is added. There are also optional parts in the Fugue for trombone, tuba, which can be covered by the bassoons, and for bells. It topped the Australian ARIA Charts for seven weeks. It was the band's final single release of the 1970s.Having composed Crazy Little Thing Called Love on guitar, Mercury played rhythm guitar while performing the song live, which was the first time he played guitar in concert with Queen. Queen played the song live between 1979 and 1986, and a live performance of the song is recorded in the albums Queen Rock Montreal, Queen on Fire – Live at the Bowl, Live at Wembley '86 and Hungarian Rhapsody: Queen Live in Budapest. Inside you will find Glockenspiel, Alto Xylophone, and Bass Xylophone parts. You will need a Bb key for your BX.It is in F major to facilitate the singing range of the children. Depending on your class, you may choose to have a soloist or choir do the vocal line. I have not included the second verse in this arrangement.You can use this as a springboard for your own arrangement. I removed the B section from the original to make it strictly ostinato-based, thus being accessible to a younger ensemble. When I performed it with my students we were on a short timeline on stage so we faded out using the ostinatos. Make choices that honour your ensemble and the expectations of your administration and community.I included a Ukulele chart & tab for teachers that may use ukulele in their program. The Bb chord is a little tricky, but if you have a motivated or experienced uku section they might enjoy the challenge.The drum has been split into bass & snare. When I performed it I consolidated it into a single Djembe part with a bass tone and a slap. Choose Non-pitched percussion available in your school.

As performed by Tredegar Town Band at Brass In Concert 2014 in their 3rd place winning program, With A Little Help From My Friends is a transcription/arrangement of the ProBrass version. This arrangement helped Dewi Griffiths secure the Best Principal Cornet prize and requires a soloist that can either improvise, or capable of playing Thomas Gansch style blues licks as in the original solo, which is also included with the parts. This arrangement begins with a piccolo trumpet duo (also playable on Soprano and Bb Cornet) in a baroque style, then building to a massive 6/8 power ballad entrance, followed by a bluesy solo trumpet feature. More building to a big section requiring the soloist to unleash their inner rock god follows, then back down to a sedate blues where a solo trombonist joins in the antics. The ending is a tricky metric modulation, where the 6/8 turns into a rock 4/4 and brings in the big guns (the bass section) with some hard hitting lines. Feel free to allow your drummer to ad lib. as much of this piece as you dare! Beautifully laid out in A4 size, the score and parts are easy to read and available NOW for digital download.
