The piece Chronicles of Thamyris was written at the request of Greek guitarist Sotiris Athanasiou for his recording project with pieces based on Greek mythology.I chose the myth of Thamyris who was a musician of Thracian origin. In each movement I imagined an episode of this myth. The first movement is composed as a narrative. The second, as the title indicates, is the episode of the competition between Thamyris and the Muses. In the third, according to the myth, Thamyris will become blind and will break his lyre. The last movement is an imaginary dance from his native Thrace.La pièce «Chroniques de Thamyris» a été écrite à la demande du guitariste grec Sotiris Athanasiou pour son projet d’enregistrement avec des pièces basées sur la mythologie grecque.J’ai choisi le mythe de Thamyris qui était un musicien d’origine Thrace. Dans chaque mouvement j’ai imaginé un épisode de ce mythe. Le premier mouvement est composé comme un narratif. Le deuxième comme le titre l’indique, est l’épisode de la compétition entre Thamyris et les Muses. Dans le troisième, selon le mythe,Thamyris va devenir aveugle et va briser sa lyre. Le dernier mouvement est une danse imaginaire de son pays natal la Thrace.

Kui is also defined as an instrumental composition in Turkic culture around 4 minutes length. This type of composition is generally performed with different national plucked, bow and wind instruments. I enjoy drawing inspiration from Asian mythology in my unaccompanied works and have employed the myth of the one legged dancing musician. I have combined with this imagery elements of jazz and rock and roll which I use freely throughout the work. It is a brief bravura solo work, but is says much in its brief three minutes.

Perform this original work of Celtic Irish setting from her CD (Gypsy Road,2012) scored for harp ensemble of intermediate to advanced players.  Scored in E minor with no lever changes it features a creative slip-jig with lush and effective harmonies.  A rare opportunity to showcase programmatic skills for the harp ensemble.  The dark and mysterious musical message will touch the hearts of all who hear it.About the CompositionI wrote this when I was very angry at the world.  Someday I might meet a black hound on a dark night... and we’ll both go hunting together.Black Dogs,  Black Hounds, The Hounds of Hell,  Dogs of Hell,  Gabriel Hounds, Yell Hounds,  Barghest,  Black Dog of the Hanging Hills, Gurt Dog or the Hounds of Herne the Hunter… by whatever name, they are a common feature in the folklore of the British Isles.  The Black Hounds of Cŵn Annwn are the spectral hounds of Annwn, the otherworld of Welsh myth.  Early Christians came to dub these mythical creatures as The Hounds of Hell or Dogs of Hell and erroneously theorized they were therefore owned by Satan.  However, the Annwn of medieval Welsh tradition is an otherworldly paradise and not a hell or abode of dead souls. The Black Hounds are a nocturnal apparition, and their appearance was regarded as a portent of death. They are supposed to hunt on specific nights in the autumn and winter when it is believed that the howling of these huge dogs foretold death to anyone who heard them. *************************************************About the Composer Laura Olson (ASCAP) is a retired California music educator with over 30 years of experience specializing in stringed instruments and orchestras. She holds a B.A. in Music Education and M.A. in Irish Traditional Music Performance (fiddle, flute, and harp). Her experience as a symphonic musician, ethnic musician, and Film/TV composer led her to combining the three aspects of music into her own compositions and arrangements; storybook music in cinematic style. She is the owner of her recording and publishing label Blue Steer Studios(ASCAP) which allows her to combine her composing skills with knowledge of both the business and publishing aspects of music industry. Winner of a Silver Ace Award from the Las Vegas Film Festival she has composed music for all types of media, including Film/TV, web and advertising, and her own personal music in audio CD and sheet music. In 2021 she took time off from composing to relocate her studio to Eastern Washington (Spokane) and is now getting started on new projects and pursuing music composition full time. He is referring to the classical myth of Daedalus and Icarus, an inventive father and son who bravely escape from their imprisonment in a tower by collecting the disposed feathers of seabirds, then fashion wings out of them and fly away. While the story is often treated as a morality tale--listen to your elders, don’t get cocky like the young man, Icarus, who, in such an understandable state of elation, ascended too close to the sun thus causing the wings to melt and his tumbling to his Mediterranean death--what Jack Gilbert reminds us is how regardless of one’s failure, the sheer transcendental experience of mortal flight remains glorious and unforgettable. Icarus’s fall was not into a legacy of disdain and oblivion, but in truth, he had come to the end of his triumph. This piece was the first of a series I composed during the Covid-19 quarantine conditions of 2020, to serve as potential contemporary preludes for each of Ludwig van Beethoven’s nine symphonies--his two hundred and fiftieth anniversary was this year!--though they can all stand on their own on any program. The connection, in this case, is with his celebrated fifth symphony in C minor--the Fate symphony, as it is commonly known. I’ll let the listener find their own connections.About the Composer:Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings, with support from the Ontario Arts Council. He is a member of SOCAN and the League of Canadian Composers.

I originally wanted to compose a short, bittersweet waltz, and the mythological city of Atlantis seemed perfect for this. The waltz I ended up with is not really meant for dancing, but rather used as a way for storytelling. This story, however, is one of my own fabrications but is still loosely based on the Atlantis mentioned by Plato's dialogues: Critias and Timaeus. This piece outlines two Atlanteans that, with the end in sight, decide to dance one last waltz together as their gleaming city collapses around them. It's a tragic farewell to a utopia that once was and could've been, but remains now as only a memory – a relic lost at the bottom of the sea.

The Man’s melodies based on two Slavic folk tunes. The rusalka sings my own melody. King of the Underwater World: a very lucky man sings of his being favoured, made king and cosseted by a rusalka. He uses the Ukrainian dorian scale, the rusalka aeolian. Rusalka (Pусалка) by Alexander Pushkin: The baritone is the storyteller. For him I use D mixolydian alternating with b minor, but the rusalka mostly sings in half-whole octatonic. 26 minutes for all three songs.

Rhythmically the music has a certain syncopated feel, which adds elements of apprehension, excitement and anticipation to the musical discourse.
