For the 2018 Chamber Music Contest Entry Eternal Bridge was made to be performed by a group of six soloists playing the following instruments: Oboe, Harp, Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass. It is not a difficult piece once learned. It is really a great fun for the players and very easy listening too, It covers a very wide range of audience demands. There is a groove feeling on it that makes it very pleasant to most all people. Because of its plasticity the piece allows many interpretations, therefore I did not made much use of interpretation symbols in order to leave to the performers the freedom of doing their own. Bowing and fingering are left totally virgin at the hands of the schools or the creativity of the performing Artists. P.S. - The score was written on Finale. The sound file For the 2018 Chamber Music Contest Entry, was performed with samplers from Garritan and conceived as an audio support for the presentation of the score. Imagine a little railway station, a train that comes and stops, and your friends go inside. As you step on the little stairs to go inside, the doors close letting you out, and the train starts rolling. It speeds up very fast and enough so you can`t jump out of the little stairs back to the ground, you are holding now to the iron bars around the doors of the train, you see your friends and the people inside but they can`t see you, they can`t hear you, and you notice that the train is now on a bridge so high, that you can`t see the earth any more. Wind is blowing around me and I feel this cosmic cold and everything starts to twist around in a gigantic spiral. I still feel the Gravity but it goes in all directions at the same time pushing me violently and I feared to fail the grip on the iron bars and fall down, in an imaginary endless abyss. Little by little the speed of the events slows down progressively until everything freezes. Now, The other side of the bridge does not exist at all, neither the beginning or up or down. The train disappeared in a glimpse and I noticed that I was not falling down, just hanging there out in hyperspace, Free from Gravity. I lost the fear of falling in the abyss, it felt kind a good, because the only thing that I could see was light, pure beautiful bright white light, I was floating in light, I realised I could stay there forever, but then I felt lonely and wanted to come back home. When I finally woke up, I wrote this words in Portuguese and made a song out of it. the words go like:Ponte eterna abismo sem fundo - Vento ciclónico medo profundo - Comboio gelado lentidão d`aço - Espiral eterna suspensa no espaço - Maos agarram a vida duas barras d` aço - Corpo sacudido em espasmos de medo - Alucinação divina acordar de um sonho Eternal Bridge endless Abyss - Cyclonic wind deep Fear - Frozen Train slowness of steel - Eternal spiral suspended in space - Hands cling to life on two bars of steel - Body shaken into spasms of fear - Divine hallucination waking up from a dream

It Is Not Death to Die is a new setting of French poet Henri Abraham César Malan's Non, ce n'est pas mourir as translated by George Washington Bethune and adapted for this work. Why this text? It first came to my notice shortly after the passing of Billy Graham, who was known to paraphrase D. L. Moody, Someday you will read or hear that Billy Graham is dead. Don’t you believe a word of it. I shall be more alive than I am now. I will just have changed my address. I will have gone into the presence of God.Graham's bold proclamation and Malan's poetry motivated me to focus anew on the resurrection, re-remembering it as the pivotal element of the Christian faith. For if there is no resurrection, Paul says in 1 Cor 15, our faith is useless. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead! Unfortunately, singing about heaven has, perhaps, been neglected of recent decades. We seem to have focused more on the already to the detriment of the not yet. But it is important to remember that this life is not all there is! Quoting Paul again, the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us (Rom 8:18). Yet, if Christ delays, the grim inevitability of our transition into eternity is a certain experience we all face. Malan's poetry so poignantly and eloquently captures this tension that it compelled me to compose a fresh musical setting that attempts to captures the mixture of dread and hope borne out in the acclamation that death is swallowed up in victory! I pray that this setting aids the Church to remember the great hope and promise Christ has granted us: O Death, where is your victory? O Death, where is your sting?_______________________________________________________________________________________________The music opens with a C# diminished chord in a very still and somber texture reflective of grief. The text is introduced with the first of two main motives, a rising 4-note outline of B minor in a triple repetition of It Is Not Death. As each stanza proceeds the music concludes on the second motive, a 5-note descending span of a minor 7th in Bb Lydian. The energy and mood of the music gradually shift over the five stanzas, as the focus moves from this life to the next; the texture thickens, the harmony expands, and the dynamic grows into the music’s pinnacle on reign with You on high! English.Karl Amadeus Hartmann wrote his first symphony in 1935/36. At that time he was still an unknown musician whose works stood no chance of being performed and who could not hope to find encouragement in his native Germany. He had to wait more than ten years for its first performance, which finally took place in Frankfurt in the spring of 1948 under the direction of Winfried Zillig. I was 21 at the time, and the work left an extraordinarily deep impression on me, an impression that marked the beginning of my admiration for Hartmann's music and its very special kind of intellectuality, which struck me as both important and significant: by this I mean its spontaneous and unrefracted immediacy, its honesty and straightforwardness – qualities that extend beyond this composer's works and affect his whole surroundings, including his fellow human beings. Indeed, I got called in to sub on a solo violin wedding gig on less than 24 hours' notice, and found this song right at the top of the list. Having not played or listened to it in... a while, I decided to display some semblance of due dilligence and write out a version that would work in the range of a solo instrumental violin. Then, and don't ask me where this sudden magnanimous streak came from, I decided to spin up the same chart with lyrics and chord diagrams just in case I ever needed to play it with a vocalist.Out of the goodness of my heart, ALL of the above is available to you for the low low price of (insert current minimum price for SMP chart). While I was tabbing this out from the perspective of a violinist, the range is pretty universal and should be playable on just about any treble clef instrument. Including the viola... although if you got hired to play solo viola at a wedding or a church service I have questions.It's nothing spectacular, but here's what I can promise you if you buy this chart:- THE CHORDS ARE RIGHT. I honestly can't believe there are people that get the chords to worship songs wrong on their arrangements, but here we are. Rest assured I am not one of them.- YOU CAN ACTUALLY READ IT. Finale collisions and terrible interpretations of vocal rhythms need not apply here.- THE MELODY WILL WORK ON YOUR INSTRUMENT. Again, this is not one of those hyper-transcriptions of every little vocal ornament that was sang on the studio version. I purposefully chose where to simplify vs. embellish the melody so that there's room for instrumental interpretation without getting lost in the details.May this humble arranger's last-minute busy work bring joy to your audience and at least an extra 30 minutes of sleep to you by not having to learn this song the night before the gig. Published by Brian Streckfus (A0.1135655). This is a shortened version of the song to fit nicely on two pages (I needed a shorter version for the circumstances I'm under). The melody and lyrics are like the original as far as I can tell, but I did make changes to the harmony. Usually these changes to the harmony are to enhance the word painting, or to have it be more idiomatic to guitar. A version like this is ideal for someone who wants to play a very fancy version of the song on solo guitar, though adding vocals in should still be fairly easy. I personally sing a lot better if I can play the melody first on guitar because then I know exactly what I'm doing. Versions like these can really be as simple or as complex as you want, if you want something simple, just play the chord diagrams and sing!1. Guitar Arrangement Lead Sheet Style2. Guitar Tab 3. Chord Charts 4. Less stereotypical chords 5. Fingerings and letter names added to aid in sight-reading 6. Voice leading considerations 7. Making the music idiomatic for guitarTips:1. Notes with the stem direction going down are background harmonies that should be played quietly. This hidden meaning tends to only happen with polyphonic instruments such as piano and guitar. You'll eventually notice this anyways because there is no lyric underneath the note.1. Slurs are notated to the make the music easier and better sounding for guitar not vocals, though of course it often mimicks slurs similiar to a vocalist.2. Fmaj7(#11) is not in the original and is a key change since it includes an F and not an F#.3. Sometimes it can look like the melody does not contain a key change, but then when you anaylze the letter names of the chords, you will find that there is indeed key changes in the chords. The Beatles is a good example of a band that does this often.4. E minor and G major chords technically only need 2 or 3 notes. This is one simple but effective strategy to have less cliche chords.5. The F(#5)(#11) chord in the second to last measure could probably be just an F major chord.6. The E natural in measure 42 could be an Eb if the harmony is too avant-garde for you. Made sense to me because of word painting and I wanted a keyless and dreamy feeling for the end. 7. G/B chords are arguably nicer than a full G chord, though of course the decision is ultimately up to. It is better because the chord is imperfect, it causes the audience to not clap too soon. I also only strum the chord up to where the vocal melody is happening, that way the main melody is always in the spot light, and I find songs are easier to sing this way.

Petey C. #6342295. Published by Petey C. (A0.873898). This is an edit for trombone of an arrangement I made for horn quartet, with a couple tiny changes. Geared toward university students and professionals. May be a bit difficult for beginners and even intermediate players. The key has been altered to make it in a slightly more comfortable range for trombone, although it maybe sits a bit high in the melodic parts and a bit low in the bassline at times. Melody and bassline get switched around a lot between parts. Makes it more fun and interesting, but requires some skill in all ranges by all players. Doesn't go below a low E, so you should be able to play without a trigger, but I've been told it can get squirrelly down there without one for some players, so... yeah.I had some consultation with a couple trombone player friends about how to best adapt my horn quartets to trombone, but I'm not a trombone player, I'm a horn player, so if you purchase this and notice any errors (notational, range, clef, etc.) that could be pretty easily fixed, let me know!
