This sheet music collection of 20 folk songs is notated for 13-note (one octave, C to C chromatic scale) instruments with Handbells on one staff and Boomwhackers® on a second staff creating an instrumental ensemble (requires one set of each instrument). Handbells play the melody while the Boomwhackers® keep a steady beat with three-note chords. For each song, there is a combined score with both parts on a grand staff plus a separate 1-staff score for each individual part. A note and chord reference chart is also provided for each song.The songs in this digital book are ordered by difficulty with the easiest songs presented first. The songs progressively incorporate more challenging rhythms, some requiring rapid chord changes. Many of the songs include two verses. The first verse is “easy†with fewer notes. The second verse is “intermediate†and expands the melody by adding more notes (sometimes including harmony notes). If you want to learn (practice) only the “easy†verse, an optional ending is provided or it can be skipped to perform the two verses together. This set of scores uses black and white noteheads and is best suited for musicians already familiar with reading standard music notation. For beginning musicians, this same set of scores is available (sold separately) with color coded noteheads. Only filled noteheads (quarter and eighth notes) are used so the notes are easier to see (this does not indicate the bells need to be silenced immediately before the next beat). Also, only quarter and eighth rests are used to help visualize the number of beats per measure. Lyrics and chord names are provided as well to aid in the learning and teaching of this song. The number of ringers and whackers needed will vary depending on the skill level of the participants. Instrument assignment suggestions are provided for each song. Each of the 20 arrangements in this collection is also available separately with accompanying preview pages and audio samples. SEVEN CANADIAN FOLK SONGS IN CHINESE STYLE Septet for Flute, Clarinet, Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass and Piano An-lun Huang, op.36 (1986) James Campbell, the famous Canadian clarinets, commissioned a septet from Huang for the China tour of the Canadian Chamber Group in 1984. Campbell suggested that An-lun combine the folk music of Canada and China in this new work. The result was the septet,†Seven Canadian Folk Songs in Chinese style, became the most exciting hit piece of the tour. The world premiere was taken place at the Festival of the Sound at Parry Sound, Ontario, before the China tour. It was performed by seven leading Canadian musicians, Moshe Hammer(violin), Steven Dann(viola), Sophie Rolland(cello), Joel Quarrington(bass), Anton Kuerti(piano), Robert Aitken(flute) and James Campbell(clarinet). The piece was so warmly received both in Canada and China that a record has been released. It was also the most successful piece for the Canada-Hong Kong Festival, Hong Kong, 91. In addition, in 2002, successfully, the Canadian Symphoniatta performed its orchestral version, conducted by Tak-ng Lai, in Paris, France. However, Huang found the musical similarity of the two nations--the pentatonic mode. Written in Chinese idea, the septet gives the opportunity both to the Chinese and Canadian audiences to find themselves in each other through the Seven Canadian folk songs. The septet is divided into seven attacca parts. No.1 begins the music into a very quiet British Columbia Indian folk tune, performed by flute and clarinet, and occasionally, the piano gives few chords to support them. No.2 comes a Alberta Indian lyric song with all instruments. The folk songs of No.3 and 4 are Ontario Forest man’s old tunes which bring the music to the exciting part. The No.5 is a Saskatchewan Indian traditional tune, the war song. Its heavy dynamic shows the typical native Canadian rhythmic patterns. Wooden spoon is a Canadian folk instrument. The clarinet player plays it in No.6 of a vivacious Quebec folk dance. And in a Newfoundland lyric song, No.7, the septet goes to its brilliant ending. The attached mp3 was recorded a Russian master and Fei-ping Hsu, one of the greatest Chinese pianist. Duration: 18 min.

But when it arrived, it turned out that it was loaded with grapes and apples, which disappointed the Lebanese and the Syrians. Despite this, the people of Aleppo secured the necessary wheat for the Lebanese, to save them from starvation. Zourouni – Egyptian Folk An old Egyptian folk tune, with a very catchy melody. Almost every Arabic singer since Sayed Darwich till now made his cover for this song! Starts with an invitation to visit the singer, even once every year, which speaks of how difficult for him to be forgotten, then expresses his fear about feeling the longing. Yal Rayeh – Algerian Folk A world-famous Algerian folk song was written and sung by the Algerian popular singer Dahmane El Harrachi. The song tells about the suffering of immigrants in estranging homes from marginalization, exclusion, and longing to return to the homeland, and it contains advice for the immigrant to invite him to return to the motherland as migration to foreign homes is not considered a healthy or natural solution for Arab immigrants.

One of the things I did to pay my way through college was to entertain at coffee houses, playing the guitar and singing folk songs. Many of the songs in the collection are old favorites that were in my repertoire. While I sang a lot of songs from the English-speaking countries, I especially loved finding tunes from other countries. Many those songs have found their way into this book. Then, when I finally put the book together with 45 songs, there was a space left over just big enough to add one more song. So, I did! The songs are arranged as solos, duets, and rounds. As well as notes for the psaltery, lyrics and guitar chords are included for many of the tunes.
