Huang dedicated the piece to the Canadian Saxophonist Paul Brodie who premiered it in Parry sound of Ontario in the same year. Written in Saibei Folk Style, the music is divided into 5 movements without stop. As usual, Huang didn‘t use any folk song . But the typical taste of Huang’s “Zhang Jia Kou[張家å£] accent†is pretty easy to be identified. With the concert virtuosity, the 1st movement is composed as an emotional Cadenza which expresses the profound affections to the land of Saibei. Using the same Alto Sax., the lyric 2nd movement is followed by a folk dance, the 3rd movement. Chang to a Soprano Saxophone, the 4th movement is sound like a dreamy nocturne which is interrupted by the percussions of the fiery 5th movement. The whole Rhapsody ends on a climax of the Chinese Northern west “wind and percussion “styleâ€. Brodie found more than 300 trills in this piece. Perhaps this is the key to perform the music in real Chinese style. Huang has composed 5 versions of these pieces for different ensembles: saxophone solo with piano, or strings, or winds/brasses, or Chinese traditional orchestra, or symphony orchestra. The attached mp3 was performed by the German saxophonist Jurgen Demmler with pianist Peter Grabinger in 1996. Duration: 20’.

This arrangement for 7 horns and tuba (or 8 horns) uses straight mutes, stop mutes, and a harmon mutes to create colorful textures. It is important that hornists play out when using mutes to balance with unmuted horns. Some other notes about this arrangement:-Horn 1 calls for a harmon mute. This arrangement is for professional band with set of parts.Ciocârlia (meaning the skylark) is a Romanian tune, allegedly composed by the Romani-Romanian pan flute player Angheluş Dinicu[1][2] in the virtuosic style of the urban lăutarească music from late 19th century. Angheluş Dinicu first presented the tune in 1889 at the inauguration of the Eiffel Tower. However, the most famous version would become that of his grandson Grigoraș Dinicu, that adapted the tune for violin. George Enescu also was inspired by Ciocârlia for his composition the Romanian Rhapsody No. 1 for orchestra. Ciocârlia has been covered numerous times, but because it is a piece of lăutărească music and not a piece of Romanian peasant music it cannot be considered representative for the Romanian peasant spirit.[3] In the case of the Ciocârlia, like with other famous tunes of lăutărească music, there were attempts to hide the name of the composer in order to make it seem anonymous/traditional.[4] It is known as Ševa (Шева) and čučuliga (Чучулига) in Serbian, Bulgarian and Macedonian. It has also become highly popular in the Jewish Klezmer repertoire.[5] In Georgia, the tune became widely adopted into traditional folk music repertoire and is known as Torola (ტოროლა, the lark)[6] During the communist-era, the Romanian intelligence service operated a numbers station believed to be used by spies in foreign countries. The station known as V01 became well known for its use of Ciocârlia as its opening interval, which would be followed by a series of number-coded messages in Romanian and concluded with the words Terminat. The station fell off the air soon after the 1989 coup and overthrow of Ceausescu.[7] The song was featured as part of the soundtrack for the 2009 Ubisoft game Rabbids Go Home, performed by Moldovan gypsy brass band Fanfare Vagabontu.

The Spanish composer and pianist Isaac Manuel Francisco Albéniz’ (y Pascual) fascinating and eventful biography is informatively described in the relevant specialist literature; with a few clicks, though, you might also do some successful research on the internet. Albéniz is considered to be the father of Spanish national music per se. Incorporating rhythms and melodies typical of Spanish folk music, he succeeded in embedding folcloristic elements in virtuoso compositions for the piano. Sevilla is the third movement of the Suite Española No. 1 for Piano, Op. 47. The final version of the suite contains eight characteristic pieces. The title of each one of them refers to a geographical region or city in Spain – including Cuba! The folcloristic and improvisational character of Sevilla results from memorable motifs with characteristic embellishments in the melody, - the imitation of other instruments (guitar, castanets, …) in the setting for piano, asymmetrical phrases,the unexpected appearance of new motifs,noticeable fluctuations in tempo and dynamics,unanticipated modulations, the “faulty†compositional structure (e.g. octave parallels between melody and bass in measure 11), and especially from the rhapsody-like middle part with its virtuoso and at the same time cantabile melody in the upper part. The arrangement presented here is notated one whole tone lower than the original version and has been written according to the proven principle of translating: “as true to the original as possible – as free as necessaryâ€. The movement can be performed as a quintet but also in a choral/orchestral instrumentation. In the latter case, the middle part with the soprano saxophone solo (measures 76 – 79 and measures 104 – 110) is recommended to be executed by five soloists.
