Instrumental Solo,Oboe d'Amore,Piano - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549778 Composed by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Children,Christmas,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and individual part. 11 pages. Jmsgu3 #3535037. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549778). Duration: ca 1:00 Score: 5 pages, Solo part: 2 pages, piano part: 3 pages. Short but fascinating Chinese Dance from the Nutcracker Suite. Program this for a recital encore or Christmas pageant. Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky Tchaikovsky is probably the most popular of the great composers in America. His music certainly appeals to musicians. Likewise, it appeals even to folks who don’t normally listen to serious music. This is probably because of his most noteworthy melodies. Above all, he writes with great emotion. This certainly makes a most noteworthy if not an unforgettable impact. Education First of all, He attended classes at the Russian Musical Society. Even more, He also attended the St. Petersburg Conservatory. There he studied music theory with Nikolai Zaremba. He also consequently studied composition with Anton Rubenstein. It seems like Rubenstein came under criticism from a group of Russian composers known as the Five. The Five The Five certainly rejected Western musical influences. They rather sought to use elements from Russian music. They furthermore wanted to use more exotic musical materials. Western Techniques More than other Russian composers, Tchaikovsky studied modern Western music. He certainly develops his music like the European masters. So, rather than repeating a motive, he moves to a new key. He then introduces a different theme in the new key. Hence, he maintained his independence from the Five. Even more, he became the first Russian composer of international stature. Influences Tchaikovsky was probably influenced in his ballet scoring by Léo Delibes. Richard Wagner influenced his symphonic writing. Tchaikovsky’s most famous works include the 1812 Overture, The Nutcracker Suite, and Swan Lake. Also famous are the Violin Concerto in D and the six symphonies. The greatest of the six symphonies may be No. 6, the Pathétique. Nutcracker Suite, Op. 71a The Nutcracker Suite is a ballet that was performed for the first time in December 1892 in St. Petersburg. To begin with, the original ballet failed to attract a positive reception. However, the ballet suite became probably one of the most popular of all of Tchaikovsky’s works. The ballet suite became even more famous in the 1960s. It is now performed all over the world, particularly during the Christmas season.

Large Ensemble Tuba - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.889873 Composed by Gary Friedman. Baroque,Contemporary,Romantic Period. Score and parts. 101 pages. Gary Friedman #10627. Published by Gary Friedman (A0.889873). There are 3 movements. Sarabande, March, and Fugue, ranging from 3 to 5 minutes in duration. The Sarabande is serious and melodic, the March is cute, and the Fugue is an orchestrated version of my Fugue for Four Winds. You can get some idea of the sound of Sarabande and March by listening to the sound clips of the versions of them in my Seven Easy Melodies for Oboe with Piano Accompaniment, either in SheetMusicPlus or on my website, www.garyfriedmanmusic.net. The original Fugue for Four Winds may also be heard in these two places. Suitable for chamber orchestra. The Sarabande instruments are 2 each of flute, oboe, clarinet in A, bassoon, and horn, plus strings. In the March a trumpet (which has a nice short solo) and snare drum and triangle are added. In the Fugue, oboe 2 becomes English horn and a second trumpet is added. There are also optional parts in the Fugue for trombone, tuba, which can be covered by the bassoons, and for bells. Year: 2000.

Woodwind Ensemble - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.799466 Composed by Drake Mabry. 20th Century,Contemporary,Instructional. 23 pages. Drake Mabry #1989641. Published by Drake Mabry (A0.799466). This is a collection of works which include pieces which can be played as solos, duos and ensembles. Written when I was Artist in residence at the Conservatory of Music in Chalons-sur-Saone, France during the academic year 2007-2008, each one page piece is a short musical expression focusing on a specific concept found in contemporary music but written to suit players relatively new to the oboe. These pieces may be included in the normal teaching program and are also perfect for workshops where participants may have very different levels and experience. While these duets are musically satisfying in themselves, they are also etudes which will introduce players to various techniques encountered in more advanced contemporary repertoire. Without being extremely complex technically, they provide challenges in their concept and approach to musicality. They can be played as written, or they may be modified by the teacher and/or performer. Although the compositional details are important, they may be bent with musical taste. For example, improvisations based on the musical material may be inserted; or several movements may be played at the same time. Of course, pieces may be assembled into suites. Feel free to try different tempos, changing tempos, different dynamics, and different methods of sound production, even playing silently. The spatial dimensions of the performance area(s) may also be exploited. These pieces may also be appropriate for use in dance, theater, art, poetry, video, sports etc.

Bassoon,Clarinet,Flute,Horn,Oboe - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.942429 Composed by Claude Debussy (1862-1918). Arranged by Brock Lupton (1948-). 20th Century. 24 pages. Brock Lupton #6858209. Published by Brock Lupton (A0.942429). Claude Debussy was, by all accounts, totally devoted to his daughter Claude-Emma (affectionately known as Chouchou) The suite Children's Corner (for solo piano) is dedicated to Chouchou. She outlived her father by scarcely a year, succumbing to the diphtheria epidemic of 1919. (with information from Wikipedia). The naming of one or two among Debussy's piano works can raise issues in the light of current trends. These were not an issue during the composer's life, but are unlikely to be ignored today. The word Golliwog may have unwanted implications, but its omission may cause confusion with another of the composer's short piano works known simply as Cakewalk. The cakewalk was a dance developed from the prize walks (dance contests with a cake awarded as the prize) held in the mid-19th century, generally at get-togethers on Black slave plantations before and after emancipation in the Southern United States.... It was originally a processional partner dance danced with comical formality, and may have developed as a subtle mockery of the mannered dances of white slaveholders. Following an exhibition of the cakewalk at the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, the cakewalk was adopted by performers in minstrel shows, where it was danced exclusively by men until the 1890s. At that point, Broadway shows featuring women began to include cakewalks, and grotesque dances became very popular across the country. [Wikipedia] The grotesque aspect of some later cakewalk dance steps may well be heard in the accompaniment to this work: the oboist's endeavors to produce a soft low B-natural (!) will help create this effect.Technically this piece is intermediate, but the range of the bassoon (especially), oboe, and (to a lesser extent) horn parts are an additional challenge for those players.
