Because of this it's been on my mind for a long time to write a funeral song, but it was somehow just never the right time until just a few weeks ago when this one came pouring out in 5 minutes flat [which does not happen often, I can assure you!]. The culmination of years of playing for funerals, a bachelor degree in theology and sacred music, and many more years of writing and playing music through good times and also times full of grief, Lord of All Our Days is my very best and heartfelt attempt to serve those who are also dealing with the absolute heartache of loss, be it the acute, fresh grieving of just losing someone or the flashbacks that come time and time again, years and even decades later.This song carefully and tenderly handles the true earth-shaking grief that it is to lose someone you love, while holding out a strong hope of the life to come for those who trust God. I had a very difficult time recording it without being moved to tears over and over, and I pray it will reach many in need of comfort, being of service to anyone who is looking for a Christian, Biblical funeral hymn for a memorial service or a celebration of life service. Almost a chant, this well known carol is somewhat sad and brooding, while at the same time lovely to listen to, with close harmonies more often found in singing choir arrangements. Denny Glasscock #6045039. Published by Denny Glasscock (A0.1070194). This is the digital audio accompaniment for both the solo and SAB versions of Why Not Come to Jesus Now, by Denny Glasscock. It also serves as a nice instrumental performance recording of the song by a string trio (violin, viola and violoncello), accompanied by piano, drums and bass (rhythm trio). The violin, viola and violoncello duplicate the soprano, alto and baritone voices, respectively, of the SAB choral version of the song. Performed along with the rhythm trio, it aids the vocalists in hearing the melody vs. the counter melody at work. The duplications are not obvious, due to the complex back and forth exchanges of melody vs. counter melody, except when the effect is desired with the melody at the beginning of a new section, briefly. At these points, the new melody significantly contrasts the prior one. At the ending, the piece concludes with a layering of tones and a light stop. Click on the publisher's name, Denny Glasscock, above to find the choral and solo versions of the song, where the sheet music is offered. There you can hear the entire digital version of the song, except for the lyrics. You can also find the instrumental ensemble (winds and strings) version of the piece, Why Not Now, as well.

A box office hit, 'The Polar Express' tells the story of a young boy (named Hero Boy), who embarks upon a journey to the North Pole on a mysterious steam train on Christmas Eve, to visit Santa Claus. Once on board the train, the boy meets other children from various backgrounds who are all wanting to see Santa, as well as a magical train crew, headed by the Conductor. 'The Polar Express' stars Tom Hanks, providing voices and motion-capture for 6 characters, including the Conductor and Santa Claus. With an incredible original soundtrack from Hollywood legend Alan Silvestri, combined with other iconic Christmas recordings, 'The Polar Express' became an instant hit, and has embedded itself in Christmas popular culture.'When Christmas Comes To Town' is performed in the film by the characters Billy the Lonely Boy and Hero Girl, with singing voices provided by Matthew Hall and Meagan Moore, and tells the story of their differing perspectives of Christmas, with a shared desire to see Santa. This new arrangement from Matt Shaw is scored for two solo Tenor Horns with brass band accompaniment (including a tutti 2nd horn part), and captures all the magic and innocence of the original song, whilst being intentionally scored to be approachable and playable by bands of all levels. The solo lines are scored within a sensible range, and are supported by warm chords from the middle and lower band, with a continuous magical presence from the percussion writing. Originally arranged for, and performed by, the Wingates Brass Band, this arrangement promises to be a fantastic new addition to any band Christmas programme, as both a new and accessible feature and an instant crowd pleaser. L'Incubo, translating literally to The Nightmare, is in three parts mimicking the construct of a nightmare or night terror. The introduction hastily expresses the beginnings of a night terror through the minor runs in the first violin part, then developed into organized chaos with merging duple and triple meter in the first major section. The first major part fades into a lulling second 'movement', to where the strings terrace in harmonizing parts that increasingly become more minor and blurred as the nightmare comes back to the surface. The initial chaos from the first miniature movement repeats, then fades as the listener 'wakes up' from the nightmare. The piece is relatively easy to read pitch wise, but rhythmic accuracy is a must due to the eerie, combined duple and triple meter. L'Incubo would be well suited for intermediate or advanced musicians. .

The sound sample is an electronic preview. High up on the grassy hill behind the town there is a door. It stands there in its frame with nothing before or behind it. It is locked shut. There is no key. We climb the hill each day. We play each side of the door, games of hide and seek. But we cannot go through the door. Each day we go there during this long sultry summer holiday. We are fascinated by the structure. Why would anyone put a door up there, in its frame, eternally locked, with nothing before or behind it? Maybe it is all that remains of an ancient house? We play, we wonder, we laugh and play, and we return regularly to our homes in time for tea. Then, one day, as we climb the hill for the umpteenth time, a lady dressed in white arrives before us. We watch her take the key out of her bag and insert it in the lock. We are too far downhill to catch up before she closes the door behind her. As we arrive, puffing and panting, Steve knocks on the door. No answer. Dave knocks on the door more forcefully. We hear a distant swish of robes. Gloria knocks, perhaps a little more timidly as the swishing sound approaches. Estelle begins to knock in her turn and the door suddenly opens wide. We all gasp as we see the lady standing there in glistening robes. Her face is hidden from view by a white shawl, but her piercing eyes still show. Children, she says, welcome all. Do come in, please, the kettle is on. You are just in time for tea. We hesitate, as well we might. How can we come in when there is nothing before or behind the door? But Estelle puts one foot inside and looks back at us with a curious expression of serenity on her face. We follow her. We look around at the new space beyond the door and at the parquet floor beneath our dew-soaked feet. As our eyes become accustomed to the brightness of the interior we catch sight of many signs of the world we have entered, but only fleetingly. They pass before our eyes in an instant and then flee beyond the range of sight. There is a staircase, a hat stand, a distant gleam of an ancient cooker, a faint whiff of scones and boiling jam. As we walk inside, our senses are overwhelmed with the new reality, we are rooted to the spot. Do please sit down, says the lady with a slight catch in her throat. We are seated on wooden chairs along one side of an oak table, although we cannot recall how we got there, some slip of the memory perhaps. We have no sense of foreboding, Estelle's serenity has passed to all of us. We can stay here eating scones and jam until the end of time. The lady removes her shawl and reveals a face as beautiful as anyone's mother's. Her deep black eyes glisten like obsidian. She beams a smile of welcome and pours the tea. I'm glad you have come. I've been expecting you, she begins. You must have a thousand questions, so do please ask away. Well, says Steve, what is this door that we passed through? Is this another world? There is no other world, the lady replies, this is the only one. But there is! There is! starts Dave excitedly, Look!. He gets up quickly from the chair, knocking it over in his haste and rushes to the door to open it. He pulls at it with all his force and reveals a black nothingness behind it. We were on the hill, where's it gone? he shouts, what have you done to it? There is no hill. But you climbed the hill in front of us says Gloria. There is no hill. Even Estelle of the serene demeanour is beginning to look worried. How did we get here then, how did you get here, she asks the lady nervously. Tongue in Cheek is a composition based on the idea of instruments competing to play the tune, with each of the instruments continuously moving between each other to try and predict one melody. The accompaniment is made up of three different ideas; each idea comes back with either a variation, or a new melody. This piece was inspired by the use of the offbeat rhythms, as well as pentatonic passages. By the end of this piece, the instruments work together to resolve the same melody and bring the piece to a conclusive end.

Hells Bells is the second single from Back in Black, released on 31 October 1980. The song begins with a bell slowly tolling four times, after which Angus Young starts playing the song’s main riff. Malcolm Young then joins in, followed by Phil Rudd on drums and Cliff Williams on bass. The bell tolls a total of 13 times during the song’s introduction. On a more personal note, I was asked to arrange this song by my daughter and son-in-law to use as the processional for their wedding. Really… I couldn’t make this up. It is scored for Flute Quartet: 2 flutes, alto flute (c-part included), and bass flute. The original composition was written in D Major but Regis Bookshar has transposed it to Bb Major, making it a little easier for many modern musicians. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (13 pages). The 17th century composer, Henry Purcell, is generally considered to be one of the greatest English composers of his generation. His Sonata for Trumpet and Strings in D Major, composed in 1694, was probably written for the London Theatre, where a fine tradition of trumpet playing had developed. Purcell almost certainly had in mind either John Shore or his brother, William, the most renowned trumpet players in England at the time. The trumpets of the time were normally tuned in D and there were no valves on the Baroque trumpets, so they were limited in the number of notes that they could play. The term Sonata here probably means no more than a piece of incidental music and looks forward to the style that would become the solo concerto where soloist and strings are pitted against each other but also looks back to an older type of instrumental music which emphasized equality between members of the ensemble. The music is in three movements and looks forward to the fast-slow-fast plan popularized by Vivaldi's concertos. Regis Bookshar thought that it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists, besides trumpet players, could also have the opportunity to play the Allegro movement from Purcell's Sonata for Trumpet, so he has created other arrangements of this selection. This particular arrangement is for a Violin Octet, consisting of 8 Violins, but there are Quintets, Sextets, Septets and Octets readily available for a wide variety of instrumental ensembles.
