Score only (see 729537 for Parts) Duration: 8 minutes, 19 pp. Description: When John Cage first invented the concept of prepared piano it was an invention born of necessity. (To realize his ideas Cage needed a percussion ensemble to accompany the dance troupe with which he worked. His solution to the impracticability of this was to create various percussion-like timbres from the studio piano which all dance spaces have.) In Heisenberg... all the instruments are engaged in a music made up of sound effects and unusual timbres; but because all the effects, in the case of the string instruments, must come from a limited number of strings, the preparation of these instruments are mutable — throughout the piece the performers are constantly preparing and un-preparing their instruments. This principle of mutable preparation has been carried over to the piano as well and thus the performance takes on the characteristic of an alien dance as a great deal of the work involves the logistics of setting up each succeeding phrase. Werner Heisenberg's great contribution to modern science is the Uncertainty Principle — the realization, expressed mathematically, that even in the hard sciences of physics and chemistry one could never be sure of anything. (According to The New Columbia Encyclopedia) “Werner Heisenberg — German physicist. One of the founders of the quantum theory, he is best known for his uncertainty principle, or indeterminacy principle, which states that it is impossible to determine with arbitrarily high accuracy both the position and momentum (essentially velocity) of a subatomic particle like the electron. The effect of this principle is to convert the laws of physics into statements about relative probabilities instead of absolute certainties.†(He won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1932.).

He was employed in the orchestra of the Duke of Oettingen-Wallerstein, initially as a double bass player and later as director of music. In 1781 he went to Paris, where he heard symphonies by Haydn and operas by Gluck and Piccinni. He was director of music at the court of the Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin in Ludwigslust from 1789 until his death in 1792. This concerto in G major is one of fourteen flute concertos he composed. The score was prepared with reference to original orchestral parts kept at the King István (St Stephen) Museum in Székesfehérvár and solo parts published by André in Offenbach in 1796.

Following in his brother's footsteps he trained at the choir school of St. Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna where he was thought to be a brighter student than Joseph. After leaving the choir-school, he was first appointed as Kapellmeister at Nagyvárad in Romania and then, in 1762, at Salzburg where he stayed until his death in 1805, composing church and instrumental music.The Turkish March is scored for wind instruments and percussion. Mock Turkish music was very popular during the classical period, and was famously exploited by Mozart in his opera Die Entführung aus dem Serail. Haydn's work is typical of the genre having bright lively melodies given an exotic flavour through the addition of untuned percussion, particularly cymbals. (Originally scored for double wind quintet, two trumpets and percussion)My arrangement is scored for double wind quintet and bass.(no trumpets or percussion)All essential trumpet solos are covered by the other winds.Horn parts are in G as the original.I have written a bass part to add depth to the piece.

It appeared on their album 2 Years On, and was released as a single, becoming their first Top Five hit in the US, peaking at number three in the Billboard Hot 100 and reaching number one in the Cashbox and Record World charts. Barry Gibb later re-recorded the song with country quartet Little Big Town for his 2021 album Greenfields.On Friday, 21 August 1970, the three Gibb brothers announced they would reunite and start recording together, nearly 16 months after Robin quit the group. They said later that they wrote Lonely Days and How Can You Mend a Broken Heart at their first reunion session, but the exact day when they recorded the song is unknown. However, a tape of stereo mixes received at Atlantic in October bears the tantalizing notation August 20, 1970 which, if true, means the brothers announced the reunion the day after it happened. According to Robin Gibb in a 2001 Billboard interview with the Bee Gees, That was written on Addison Road in Holland Park in London, in the basement of Barry's place.This song was sung by all three together to Maurice's piano and bass and Bill Shepherd's string and horn arrangement, the slow verses contrasting with the pounding chorus. 'Lonely Days' was written in ten minutes. It was that quick. I was at the piano ten minutes. Barry revealed later in 1998, A manager we had about five years back heard 'Lonely Days' in a restaurant and he said to a friend, 'That's one of my favorite Beatles songs' And he was managing us!Well, beyond the Covid-19 pandemic, brass quintets would want to re-unite. What better way than to play a shortened version (for the fragile chops) of Lonely Days... Enjoy!

The Overture A Midsummer Night's Dream is originally composed by the German composer Felix Mendelssohn, who was inspired by reading William Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream. It was initially created as a piano piece for duet, intended for enjoyment with his sister Fanny. Notably, Mendelssohn himself later arranged it for orchestra in 1826 when he was just 17 years old.Fast forward 16 years, this piece took an unconventional path to composition. It was commissioned by King Wilhelm IV of Prussia at the time, and the overture became part of a larger work known as Incidental Music, where it was accompanied by other pieces, apart from the overture.The Overture A Midsummer Night's Dream begins with four chords that evoke a gentle breeze, as if beckoning you into the world of fairies, in line with the folklore that claims that on the eve of Midsummer (Walpurgis Night), fairies and witches gather for revelry. It then transitions into the theme of the fairy's fluttering wings, followed by the music of the Fairy King's palace, the lovers' theme, and passages for clowns and hunting scenes. Finally, it returns to the fairies, dancing and disappearing as if carried away by the wind.We have arranged this enchanting piece for a brass ensemble, featuring ten players (3 trumpets, 3 horns, 3 trombones, and 1 tuba). The 1st Trumpet part includes an optional switch to Piccolo Trumpet, but this is purely optional and not mandatory to perform the arrangement.Additionally, please note that the 3rd Trombone part is intended for the Bass Trombone but can also be performed using Euphonium or Tenor Bass Trombone.

He was from Dillingham, Alaska, which is famous for its runs of red salmon from Bristol Bay. I decided to depict the life cycle of a red salmon in music using the players he had gathered to play on his recital. Using the flugelhorn with the euphonium and cello makes for a wonderful rich and mello sound. I like the result of the original instrumentation, but the piece would also work well with trumpet and trombone instead of flugelhorn and euphonium.

Wolf Skin, an original song for male voice, upright bass, and piano, was written to accompany a prose poem of the same name by Mary McMyne, which originally appeared in the Los Angeles Review and was subsequently reprinted as the title poem in McMyne's Elgin-Award-nominated collection (Wolf Skin, Dancing Girl Press, 2014). The lyrics and music retell the Little Red Riding Hood folktale from the huntsman's perspective, putting the listener into the position of the hero in the Brothers Grimm variant as he enters the grandmother's house. Inside, the baritone sings, the shadows shape a riddle, a story. The half-burnt candle in the kitchen, the unwashed dishes. The cloth-covered basket by the door. With these lines, we travel into the grandmother's house with the huntsman, the bass conjuring the strange buzzing sound of the wolf's snores, the piano manifesting the huntsman's realization of what happened before he arrived. The discord between the three voices in the trio, like the poem, questions the classic tale, interrogating the familiar trope of huntsman as hero at the same time as it pays homage to Franz Schubert's Erlkönig with its driving rhythm and dark tone.Bass part may be played by cello.Baritone version also available.

Published by Donald A Mills (A0.928964). 2017 CHAMBER MUSIC CONTEST ENTRYI Wonder as I Wander is a Christian folk hymn, typically performed as a Christmas carol, written by American folklorist and singer John Jacob Niles. The hymn has its origins in a song fragment collected by Niles on July 16, 1933.While in the town of Murphy in Appalachian North Carolina, Niles attended a fundraising meeting held by evangelicals who had been ordered out of town by the police. In his unpublished autobiography, he wrote of hearing the song:A girl had stepped out to the edge of the little platform attached to the automobile. She began to sing. Her clothes were unbelievably dirty and ragged, and she too was unwashed. Her ash-blond hair hung down in long skeins.... But, best of all, she was beautiful, and in her untutored way, she could sing. She smiled as she sang, smiled rather sadly, and sang only a single line of a song.The girl, named Annie Morgan, repeated the fragment seven times in exchange for a quarter per performance, and Niles left with three lines of verse, a garbled fragment of melodic material-and a magnificent idea. (In various accounts of this story, Niles hears between one and three lines of the song.) Based on this fragment, Niles composed the version of I Wonder as I Wander that is known today, extending the melody to four lines and the lyrics to three stanzas. His composition was completed on October 4, 1933. Niles first performed the song on December 19, 1933, at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina. The church was made a cathedral in 1564 when the city was granted its bishopric. The cathedral was built on the site of the Aljama Mosque in the first third of the 14th century. The name of this structure, El Salvador Cathedral, literally means the Cathedral of the Transfiguration. The cathedral has three portals: the Puerta de las Cardenas (Portal of the Chains, 14th century) is in Islamic style, the Puerta de Loreto (mid-15th century) is Gothic, and Puerta de la Anunciación (Portal of the Annunciation, built in 1588 by Juan Inglés), which has a Renaissance-style triumphal arch-shape. Part 1: Introitis. The saxophone mimics a chant based on the metre of the Introitis: Rorate, caeli, desuper, et nubes pluant iustum: aperiatur terra, et germinet Salvatorem (Bedew us, heavens, from above; ye clouds, rain down the Just One. Let the earth be opened up, and produce the Saviour. The intervals 1 (tonic), 5 (dominant), 6 (super-dominant) and 4 (subdominant), based on the year 1564 referred to in the section above, are used as the basis for the harmony progression for the string section. Part 2: Puerta de las Cardenas Acts 12:3–19 says that Peter was put into prison by King Herod, but the night before his trial an angel appeared to him, and told him to leave. Peter's chains fell off, and he followed the angel out of prison, thinking it was a vision (verse 9). The prison doors opened of their own accord, and the angel led Peter into the city. The visit from the angel, release from the chains and the prison, as well as the journey into the city is expressed against the background of the Islamic design of the portal, hence the referral to Arabian rhythms and scales in the music. Part 3: Puerta de Loreto The Puerta de Loreto is of gothic design. Loreto refers to the Italian city of Loreto in the province of Ancona. It is said that the holy house where the Mother Mary lived in Nazareth was translated miraculously to Loreto on December 19, 1294 - more than 700 years ago. The house did not go straight to Loreto, but in the year 1291 it was miraculously transported from Nazareth to the town of Tersatto in Dalmatia (Croatia). The local population, filled with astonishment, did not know how to explain its sudden appearance. Their Bishop, who was gravely ill, now appeared in their midst cured. He had prayed to the Virgin Mary that he might be strong enough to see the prodigy for himself, and the Mother of God appeared to him, surrounded by Angels, saying: My son, you have called for me, and here I am. I came to give you succor and to reveal to you the mystery [of the translation of the Holy House] you desire to know. The holy dwelling is the very house where I was born and raised. It was there that I received the good news brought by the Archangel Gabriel and I conceived the Divine Infant by the operation of the Holy Ghost. It was there that the Word was made flesh... For you to bear witness to all that I am telling you now, you will suddenly be cured and return to full health after the long illness you have borne, so that through you all will believe in this miracle. Part 4: Puerta de la Anunciación The Annunciation is the Christian celebration of the announcement by the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and become the mother of Jesus, the Son of God, marking his Incarnation. Gabriel told Mary to name her son Jesus, meaning Saviour. Part 5: Exit The work ends with a re-interpretation of the first section, the Introitis. This is to bind the work together, but also to again reflect on the text, as stated: Rorate, caeli, desuper, et nubes pluant iustum: a periatur terra, et germinet Salvatorem, and to comtemplate how that gives meaning to the being, essence and history of the Catedral de Orihuela.
