Released as a single on 7 September 1968, it was their second number-one single on the UK Singles Chart and their first US Top 10 hit.The song is about a man who, awaiting his execution in the electric chair, begs the prison chaplain to pass a final message on to his wife. Robin Gibb, who wrote the lyrics, said that the man's crime was the murder of his wife's lover, though the lyrics do not explicitly allude to the identity of the victim. Robin said, This is about a prisoner on Death Row who only has a few hours to live. He wants the prison chaplain to pass on a final message to his wife. There's a certain urgency about it. Myself and Barry wrote it. It's a bit like writing a script. Sometimes you can sit there for three hours with your guitar and nothing will happen. Then in the last ten minutes something will spark. The song was written with Percy Sledge in mind to record it. Sledge did record it in February 1970 but Atlantic did not issue his version in the United States at the time.Barry recalled, In those days, the lyrics were almost pretty well done on the spot. I don't remember the fundamentals on how the lyrics were formed, except that we were writing about a guy on death row. That was it.Robin adds:It was like acting, you see, we said, let's pretend that somebody, his life is on the line, somebody's going to the chair. What would be going through their mind? Let's not make it doom and gloom but sort of an appeal to the person he loves. Because right now that's all he cares about. Regardless of whether he's done a bad thing, he is a human being, and he's sending out this last message. There's someone out there whom he loves. It's a torch song, but within a very sort of theatrical sense. Not sort of abstract, but definitely somebody in a very bad situation whose life is going to end. What would they be saying, you know? This is it: 'Gotta get a message to you, hold on.Revive this hit on your brass instruments and enjoy!

It was written in reply to the Vietnam War riots at the Democrat National Convention in Chicago on August 29, 1968. It was carried live on television at that time. The reason why I did this was because the news is predicting a repeat at the Democrat National Convention this year (2024). The DNC just happens to be in Chicago again and the riots are bring predicted, again, against a war, the Israeli-Hamas war. I am hoping this arrangement will help remind people of those days and, hopefully, stop the prediction. In the original key from the band Chicago's first double lp Chicago Transit Authority. It was the second song on the 4th side, following Prologue. Both Prologue and Someday used actual audio from the riots. Duration = 4:25. Pearl Sydenstricker Buck (June 26, 1892 – March 6, 1973; also known by her Chinese name Sai Zhenzhu; Chinese: èµ›çç ) was an American writer and novelist. As the daughter of missionaries, Buck spent most of her life before 1934 in Zhenjiang, China. Her novel The Good Earth was the best-selling fiction book in the United States in 1931 and 1932 and won the Pulitzer Prize in 1932. In 1938, she was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for her rich and truly epic descriptions of peasant life in China and for her biographical masterpieces. She was the first American woman to win the Nobel Prize for Literature.After returning to the United States in 1935, she continued writing prolifically, became a prominent advocate of the rights of women and minority groups, and wrote widely on Chinese and Asian cultures, becoming particularly well known for her efforts on behalf of Asian and mixed-race adoption.There are no adult rhymes in this ditty, because this English folk song was written for children. Its three verses each relate the misadventures of a farmer - beginning with Old Farmer Buck - who appear to have been drinking too much. Perhaps they all came up from Somerset where the cider rotted their brains? In 1926, an arrangement of this song in 4/4 time by Gerrard Williams was published by J. Curwen & Sons of London. It was still being taught in English schools in the 1960s, and perhaps later.

Rimasta incompiuta per la morte dell'autore, avvenuta il 5 dicembre 1791, fu completata successivamente da Franz Xaver Sussmayr.L'opera è legata alla controversa vicenda della sua morte avvenuta il giorno successivo al completamento delle parti vocali del Lacrimosa. Stendhal parla di un anonimo committente che incaricò Mozart, malato e caduto in miseria, di comporre in quattro settimane una messa da requiem, dietro compenso di cinquanta ducati. Completato quasi certamente entro la quaresima del 1792, il Requiem venne ritenuto per un certo periodo opera del solo Mozart anche per il fatto che la calligrafia di Süssmayr risulta essere molto simile a quella di Mozart: fino agli inizi degli anni novanta del XX secolo si riteneva infatti che l'indicazione, posta in testa alla prima pagina, recitante di me W.A Mozart mppa. 1792 fosse stata apposta da Mozart stesso.Fu probabilmente solo con l'edizione a stampa di Andrè del 1827 che parte dei dubbi vennero fugati: forse per la prima volta nella storia della musica, una partitura venne pubblicata con un commento critico nel quale si tentava di stabilire con certezza ciò che è certamente di Mozart e ciò che è di pugno d'altri; l'edizione Breitkopf indicò poi con una M il materiale sicuramente mozartiano e con una S quello attribuito a Süssmayr.Leggendo il testo si può capire quanta intensità e potenza è racchiusa in questa composizione:Dies irae, dies illa, Solvet saeclum in favilla, Teste David cum Sibylla. The song was the college anthem of Trinity University College.It was famously performed by Rudy Vallée as The Drunkard Song, slightly changing the chorus. While recording the last verses of the song, Vallée started to laugh uncontrollably given the corny lyrics. He and his band recorded the song again without laughing, but Victor released both takes in 1934. He also performed the song in the film Sweet Music.Here's my interpretation for a brass quintet.
