According to a rubric found at the Cathedral, it would have likely been performed for the Saturday Lady Mass. Guillaume de Machaut's Messe de Nostre Dame is significant in the history of music for several reasons: It is the first complete setting of the Ordinary of the Mass by a single composer that has survived. It is a unified mass, meaning that the composer selected relevant chants for each section as the borrowed tenor. It was composed in four voices, which was unusual at the time. Stuttgart, Germany, 1872) moved to St. Petersburg, Russia, to work as a tutor at the age of seventeen. But his love for the music of Haydn and Mozart impelled him to a career in music. He moved back to Germany in 1811, settled in Stuttgart, and remained there for most of his life. The prestigious Cotta music firm published some of his early compositions and sent him to study music in Italy, where he came under the influence of Palestrina's music. In 1821 Kocher founded the School for Sacred Song in Stuttgart, which popularized four-part singing in the churches of that region. He was organist and choir director at the Striftsckirche in Stuttgart from 1827 to 1865. Kocher wrote a treatise on church music, Die Tonkunst in der Kirche (1823), collected a large number of chorales in Zions Harfe (1855), and composed an oratorio, two operas, and some sonatas. Romanian Folk Dances Sz. 56, BB 68 is a suite of six short piano pieces composed by Béla Bartók in 1915. He later orchestrated it for small ensemble in 1917 as Sz. 68, BB 76.It is based on seven Romanian tunes from Transylvania, originally played on fiddle or shepherd's flute. The original name for the piece was titled Romanian Folk Dances from Hungary but was later changed by Bartók when Transylvania became part of Romania in 1920. It is nowadays available in the 1971 edition which is written with key signatures although Bartók rarely ever used key signatures.This set of dances consists of six movements and, according to the composer, it should take four minutes and three seconds to perform, but most professional pianists take up to five minutes. There is a corresponding Brass Prelude 2 that goes with it. Brass Prelude 2 is, in a word, wild; it is very modern in style, very fast, and quite short, and is specifically designed to end the service with a bang, sending the worshipers out on an uplifting note. This piece requires an advanced quintet because of the tonal structures, speed, and the requirement for a piccolo trumpet in A.

Johann Christoph Pezel is largely unknown today, save for this short Intrada. he was actually quite influential in the development of instruments musical forms and an accomplished clarino trumpet player as well as a composer of much sacred and secular music.This is a great opener for concerts and works well both inside and outside (and, surprisingly, when socially distanced!)The difficulty of this piece depends almost entirely on how fast you want to take it! It is marked as Allegro, but that was a vague term in the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The recording is at 120bpm, but I have heard it played as widely different as 100bpm and 140bpm.Your choice!

Mashed into the main tune are snippets of O Sacred Head Now Wounded and Christ the Lord Is Risen Today. This arrangement would work for any church service as a prelude, postlude, offertory, Communion incidental music, etc., but is obviously more meaningful at Easter. It runds a little under four minutes, but could be shortened easily.
