During my undergraduate career at The University of Akron, like many college students, I went through a year of trying to discover what I really wanted to do. In my sophomore year, I dropped from Music Education, and picked up a double major in Trumpet Performance and Composition with a minor in Jazz Studies. After 2 semesters of taking nearly 30 credit hours and a need to change my embouchure, I decided to focus on trumpet and come back to composition later. After finishing my BM in Trumpet Performance, I decided to go for a MM in Composition. This piece was one that I wrote for entry into the graduate program. To this day, it is still one of my favorite compositions! It's a lot of fun, very difficult and taxing, but also very musically interesting. It melds together several interesting melodic lines and motifs, and each player gets a chance to shine. There are also a lot of great ensemble moments where lines get passed through the entire quintet and turn it into one instrument. Voices of Spring (Voci di Primavera) op. 410, è un valzer di Johann Strauss (figlio).Nell'inverno del 1882-83 il compositore fu invitato a comporre un valzer vocale per il celebre soprano austriaco Bianca Bianchi (il cui vero nome era Bertha Schwarz), al tempo un acclamato membro del Wiener Hopfoperntheater (Teatro dell'opera reale di Vienna).Il valzer fu eseguito per la prima volta al Theater an der Wien il 1º marzo 1883 ad un concerto di beneficenza per la fondazione degli indigenti dell'Impero austro-ungarico fondata dall'imperatore Francesco Giuseppe e dall'imperatrice Elisabetta.Strauss, dopo il successo che aveva ottenuto con i suoi valzer corali, fu felice di scrivere un brano per sola voce e il librettista Richard Genée, che aveva già collaborato con il compositore nell'operetta Eine Nacht in Venedig (Una notte a Venezia) del 1883, scrisse anche il testo per il nuovo valzer.L'autunno del 1882 vide Strauss impegnato a Budapest per curare la prima rappresentazione dell'operetta Der lustige Krieg (L'allegra Guerra; 1881). Durante lo svolgimento di una delle serate in onore della visita del musicista viennese, fu Strauss stesso ad esibirsi al pianoforte con un altro degli illustri ospiti della serata: Franz Liszt. I due compositori si conoscevano già molto bene da almeno 30 anni (Strauss aveva dedicato il suo valzer Abschieds-Rufe op. 179 a Liszt nel gennaio del 1856) e si incontrarono in numerose altre occasioni. Fu questa visita che fornì l'ispirazione per la scrittura del valzer Frühlingsstimmen.Successivamente il valzer venne arrangiato da Johann in versione solamente orchestrale e fu eseguito in questa forma, oggi celeberrima, da Eduard Strauss durante uno dei suoi concerti al Musikverein nel 1883.Nel 1934 il valzer fu riutilizzato per l'operetta postuma (con musiche di Strauss jr.) This must-have arrangement would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts and recitals and could also be performed for church services. This brilliant work by Johann Sebastian Bach is an adaptation of Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto for Four Violins and String Orchestra in B minor. Bach had gotten to know Vivaldi's concertos while he was an organist at Weimar, where he transcribed ten of them for solo harpsichord and six of them for organ. Originally written in B minor, Bach transposed it to A minor and, while preserving the melodic outline as conceived by Vivaldi for four violins, this later adaptation, from around 1730, for four harpsichords and string orchestra, is far more ambitious. In it, Bach has both tightened and expanded Vivaldi's counterpoint, enriched it with lusher harmonies and expanded the solo parts with greater complexity and greater clarity. The result is a composition that actually improves on the original work. Written in the standard three-movement concerto form of the Baroque period, Bach's Concerto for Four Claviers in A minor is a virtuoso piece for the soloists. Regis Bookshar has now rearranged the first movement of this concerto, marked Allegro, for a Brass Quintet, consisting of 2 Trumpets, 1 French Horn, 1 Trombone and 1 Tuba, while maintaining the energy and virtuosity of Bach's original work. This arrangement is intended to be performed by accomplished players. It may prove to be a huge challenge for many players, but, I think, it will be worth the effort. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (41 pages). In addition to this version for a Brass Quintet, other arrangements of this selection are also available for a variety of Instrumental Quintets, some of which are in the original key of Concert A minor and some have been transposed to Concert G minor, making it a little easier for some performers, as well as numerous other arrangements in a wide variety of styles. I would encourage you to search for other arrangements by Regis Bookshar. You may find something else which might interest you as well. I'm certain that this exciting arrangement will be a challenge to many performers but will continue to entertain both performers and audiences alike for years to come. The original piece was written in 1976 and dedicated to Jack Stone and the Richland College Early Brass. It was published by Shawnee Press and performed often around the nation. The music was scored for large brass section and percussion. My new version is for brass quintet Bb Trumpets 1-2, F French Horn, Trombone and Tuba. Movement III is a real flag waver to bring down the curtain on a concert. It features lots of flashy trumpet phrases and includes a short...melodic/harmonic ensemble section. È la prima delle tre opere italiane scritte dal compositore salisburghese su libretto di Lorenzo Da Ponte.Musicato da Mozart all'età di ventinove anni, il testo dapontiano fu tratto dalla commedia Le nozze di Figaro di Beaumarchais (autore della trilogia di Figaro : Il barbiere di Siviglia , Il matrimonio di Figaro e La madre colpevole ).Dal Terzo Atto - Finale Ecco la marcia, andiamo (Susanna, La Contessa, Il Conte, Figaro; Coro).Le Nozze di Figaro è una delle più famose opere di Mozart e dell'intero teatro musicale, ed è la prima di una serie di felici collaborazioni tra Mozart e Da Ponte, che ha portato anche alla creazione del Don Giovanni e di Così fan tutte .Fu Mozart stesso a portare una copia della commedia di Beaumarchais a Da Ponte, che la tradusse in lingua italiana (tuttora la lingua ufficiale dell'opera lirica) e che (d'accordo con Mozart) rimosse tutti gli elementi di satira politica dalla storia. L'opera fu scritta da Mozart in gran segreto (la commedia era stata vietata dall'imperatore Giuseppe II, poiché attica l'odio tra le varie classi sociali). Questo è un periodo in cui è stato scritto. Eppure è solo dopo aver convinto l'imperatore della rottura delle scene politicamente più discusse che hanno visto il permesso di rappresentare l'opera.Inoltre, la scena finale del terzo atto, che comprendeva un balletto e una pantomima, si dovette scontrare con un divieto imperiale di rappresentare balli in scena. Racconta Da Ponte, nelle sue memorie , che lui e Mozart, non intendono rinunciare al finale come l'avevo concepito, invitarono l'imperatore ad assistere a una prova, dove si sono giocati quel pezzo muto. L'imperatore subito ordinò che la musica fosse reinserita.Così Le Nozze di Figaro , finita di comporre il 29 aprile, fu messa in scena al Burgtheater di Vienna, il 1º maggio 1786 con Nancy Storace (Susanna), Francesco Benucci (Figaro) e Michael Kelly (tenore) (Basilio e Don Curzio) , diretta dal compositore nelle prime due rappresentazioni e da Joseph Weigl nelle repliche. Ottenne un successo strepitoso, al punto che l'Imperatore, dopo la terza recita, dovette emanare un decreto per limitare le richieste di bis, in modo che le repliche non durassero troppo. Ancor più grande fu il successo al Teatro Nazionale di Praga (dal 17 gennaio 1787), colomba (una detta di Mozart): «Qui non sta che che del Figaro, non si suona, non si strombetta, non si canta, non si fischia che il Figaro, non si va a sentire altra opera che il Figaro. Eternamente Figaro! ».L'opera è in quattro atti e ruota attorno alle trame del Conte d'Almaviva, invaghito della cameriera della Contessa, Susanna, alla quale cerca di imporre lo ius primae noctis. La vicenda si svolge in un intreccio serrato e folle, in cui donne e uomini si contrappongono nel corso di una giornata di passione travolgente, piena sia di eventi drammatici che comici, e nella quale alla fine i servi si dimostrano più signori e intelligenti dei loro padroni. L'opera è per Mozart (e prima di lui per Beaumarchais) un pretesto per prendersi gioco delle classi sociali dell'epoca che da lì a poco saranno travolte dai fatti con la Rivoluzione francese. L'intera vicenda può anche essere letta come una metafora delle diverse fasi dell'amore: Cherubino e Barbarina rappresentano l'amore acerbo, Susanna e Figaro l'amore che sboccia, il Conte e la Contessa l'amore logorato e senza più alcuna passione, Marcellina e don Bartolo l'amore maturo.

Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony Op. 125 incorporates part of the poem An die Freude (“To Joyâ€), a hymn written by Friedrich Schiller, with the text sung by soloists and a choir in its last movement.
