This arrangement adapted for brass quartet was written keeping the characteristics of the original work, in order to be performed by young music students who want to enter the symphonic music. Besides, it can also be used by professional musicians, for recitals, repertoire, academic presentations and didactic material. As much as it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion. The transcription is faithful to the structure, with only one change of key, so that it is comfortable for all the instruments in the formation, as well as for use in ensemble practice between musicians of different traditions. Ludwig van Beethoven began concentrated work on his Symphony No. 7 in A major Op. 92 in 1811, it was completed in 1812, and was dedicated to Count Moritz von Fries, and premiered in Vienna on December 8, 1813. It is considered a remarkable example of the more ebullient side of Beethoven's compositional personality and evidence that even after the onset of deafness, he still found cause for musical optimism. The second movement Allegretto is a funeral march in everything but name. Often several contrasting melodic ideas are made to coexist, as if Beethoven were imagining several processions converging on the cemetery at the same time. As he was working on this symphony during the years of the Napoleonic Wars, this experience was probably within his experience. It was also used as the soundtrack to the film Knowing, by director Alex Proyas and starring Nicolas Cage, where it is used in the final scene of the film. Beethoven called Symphony No. 7 his most excellent symphony, and a music critic of the time reported, this symphony is the most melodically rich and the most pleasing and comprehensible of all Beethoven's symphonies..

A slow introduction followed by a fugue makes this a great concert work. The French baroque organ tradition is a bit strange, as they almost always played their fugues on the nasal-sounding oboe and bassoon stops, and didn't avoid occasional spine-straightening dissonances if their themes collided (as is the case in a couple of instances int he is work).

The Italian libretto was written by Francesco Maria Piave based on the 1832 play Le roi s'amuse by Victor Hugo. Despite serious initial problems with the Austrian censors who had control over northern Italian theatres at the time, the opera had a triumphant premiere at La Fenice in Venice on 11 March 1851.The work, Verdi's sixteenth in the genre, is widely considered to be the first of the operatic masterpieces of Verdi's middle-to-late career. Its tragic story revolves around the licentious Duke of Mantua, his hunch-backed court jester Rigoletto, and Rigoletto's daughter Gilda. The opera's original title, La maledizione (The Curse), refers to a curse placed on both the Duke and Rigoletto by a courtier whose daughter the Duke has seduced with Rigoletto's encouragement. The curse comes to fruition when Gilda falls in love with the Duke and sacrifices her life to save him from the assassin hired by her father.Many famous arias, and the quartet are among the many lovely moments captured in this arrangement. This is arranged for a quintet of two Trumpets, French Horn, Trombone and Tuba plus drums if desired.

Peet du Toit #5793667. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802566). Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 in B minor, known as the Pathetique, was composed in 1893, and had its premiere that fall. The symphony is the last of Tchaikovsky, who died nine days after its premiere. A memorial concert of the work was performed 21 days later. This work of Tchaikovsky evokes much mystery as it is programmatic, however Tchaikovsky did not divulge the program. Theories of its intended program lie in its dedication, to his nephew (with whom he was said to be in love), and also in the fact that his death soon followed, evoking the theory that the symphony was a musical suicide note. Regardless of Tchaikovsky’s intent, the symphony is filled with emotion, suffering, and passion, (hence the name, Pathetique) and is at the pinnacle of music of the late Romantic period and an expression of Tchaikovsky’s inner world. Here is an excerpt of the second movement, a dance movement in ternary form, is in 5/4 time. It has been described as a limping waltz.
