Parsifal è l'ultimo dramma musicale di Richard Wagner, andato in scena il 26 luglio 1882 al Festival di Bayreuth diretto da Hermann Levi, ma rappresentato per la prima volta nei teatri europei solo a partire dal 1º gennaio 1914 con la prima a Bologna con Giuseppe Borgatti.Dopo una gestazione lunga alcuni decenni, l'opera fu composta tra il 1877 e il 1882 e segna il ritorno al tema del Graal, giàaffrontato molti anni prima in Lohengrin. Il preludio dell'opera è stato oggetto di citazione nel film Baci e abbracci (1998), ed usato come colonna sonora nel film Excalibur (1981).L'arrangiamento è diviso in tre parti:1. PreludioL'introduzione sinfonica espone con straordinaria ampiezza il motivo dell'Ultima Cena, articolato col tema della Fede in un discorso interrotto da lunghi silenzi. L'atmosfera di altissima sacralitàsi rivela fin dalle prime battute del preludio, collegandosi direttamente alla scena del primo atto. In una radura boscosa nei pressi del monastero, i cavalieri si destano al sorgere del sole; tra di loro è l'anziano Gurnemanz, il più saggio custode della virtù e della storia del Santo Graal. Giunge al galoppo la selvaggia Kundry, che appare nelle sincere vesti di amica dei cavalieri. La donna ha con sé un'erba medicamentosa proveniente dall'Arabia, pensando che possa servire per lenire la piaga di Amfortas. Dopo un accenno alla profezia del Salvatore, Amfortas viene condotto sul lago per l'abluzione giornaliera, mentre la natura sorride al sole del mattino.2. Ingresso nel Castello del Santo GraalI temi di Klingsor e della Magia commentano il breve preludio orchestrale, mentre la scena rivela l'interno di un favoloso palazzo arabo: Klingsor, guardando nel suo specchio magico, osserva Parsifal venire verso il castello. Solo il nemico del Graal riconosce il puro folle che potrebbe redimere i cavalieri, e lo attira dunque nell'abbraccio mortale di Kundry. L'evocazione della donna ne rivela il passato reincarnato: non fu giàl'Erodiade che rise in faccia al Battista? Così Klingsor la chiama e la obbliga ad adempiere al proprio castigo. Ma pur preda di terribili sofferenze, Kundry ride in faccia anche a lui, beffeggiando la castitàche lo accomuna ai cavalieri del Graal.3. Incantesimo del Venerdì Santo Questa scena è un altro punto chiave dell’opera, senza dubbio uno dei momenti musicali più ispirati di Wagner, che illustra come la natura che circonda i personaggi riflette la santitàdel giorno, rivelandosi in tutto il proprio splendore.

Nati dalle canzonette e dalle villanelle popolari, i balletti venivano impiegati per accompagnare spettacoli di danze mimate. Tra i più famosi balletti del Gastoldi si ricordano: Amor vittorioso e Il martellato.

The Ländler is a folk dance in 3/4 time which was popular in Austria, Bavaria, German Switzerland, and Slovenia at the end of the 18th century.It is a partner dance which strongly features hopping and stamping. It might be purely instrumental or have a vocal part, sometimes featuring yodeling.When dance halls became popular in Europe in the 19th century, the Ländler was made quicker and more elegant, and the men shed the hobnail boots which they wore to dance it. Along with a number of other folk dances from Germany and Bohemia, it is thought to have influenced the development of the waltz.Here's a brass quintet version for your enjoyment.

Italian-born organist and composer Pietro Yon (1886-1943) wrote the anthem Gesu Bambino in 1917 while engaged as organist at St. Francis Xavier Church in Manhattan, New York, and as organ instructor and co-director (with his brother, Constantino) of the Yon Music Studios, a conservatory for liturgical musicians at New York’s Carnegie Hall.Yon was an acclaimed organist, later holding positions as Titular Organist of the Vatican and Music Director of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York. He supervised installations of organs at both St. Patrick’s and Carnegie Hall. He was an influential teacher as well, with students occupying positions as organists and music directors at prominent churches in New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Grand Rapids, Dallas, Salt Lake City, and more.Yon was among the most important composers of sacred music for the Roman Catholic Church in the first half of the twentieth century, writing 21 masses, numerous motets, and various other sacred works. In addition, he wrote works for solo organ and solo piano, songs, chamber music, and orchestral compositions including several concertos. This Quick-Step piece was recorded by Judy Garland in 1943 by Decca Records on her Second Souvenir album.The quickstep is a light-hearted dance of the standard ballroom dances. The movement of the dance is fast and powerfully flowing and sprinkled with syncopations. The upbeat melodies that quickstep is danced to make it suitable for both formal and informal events. Quickstep was developed in the 1920s in New York City and was first danced by Caribbean and African dancers. Its origins are in combination of slow foxtrot combined with the Charleston, a dance which was one of the precursors to what today is called swing dancing.This dance gradually evolved into a very dynamic one with much movement on the dance floor, with many advanced patterns including hops, runs, quick steps with much momentum, and rotation. The tempo of quickstep dance is rather brisk, as it was developed to ragtime era jazz music, which is fast-paced when compared to other dance music.The quickstep is elegant like the foxtrot and should be smooth and glamorous. The dancers should appear to be very light on their feet. It is very energetic and form-intensive. The quickstep is danced to 4/4 music of 48-52 measures per minute.

Pollard was hoping to go to Africa as a missionary but found herself unable to raise the needed funds to make the journey. Greatly discouraged, she attended a prayer service one evening and as she sat there, she overheard an elderly woman say It really doesn't matter what you do with us, Lord, just have your own way with our lives. The elderly woman inspired Pollard and she contemplated the story of the potter from Jeremiah 18:3 and, upon her return home that evening, wrote all four stanzas before retiring for the night. Canzon in Echo Duodecimi Toni á 10 was published as part of Gabrieli's Sacre Symphoniae of 1597, a collection of pieces including motets, canzonas, and sonatas for various instrumental groups. Gabrieli used the layout of his musical home, the San Marco Church in Venice with its two choir lofts facing each other, to create the first spatial or antiphonal music for early brass instruments, cornetti, and sackbuts.Maestro Fabrizio Bugani has done a wonderful job of editing this almost 4-minute work for a double brass choir of 10 instruments (two brass quintets). Included are numerous substitute parts which include Trumpets in C, Horns, and Alto Trombones. If one wishes a pure cylindrical choir; that can be achieved by using the Alto Trombones in place of the conical Horns.This edition is appropriate for moderately advanced performers and is pitched in the key of B-flat, down a step from the original.Instrumentation is for double brass quintets of 4 B-flat Trumpets, 2 Horns and 4 Trombones.

The Italian libretto was written by Francesco Maria Piave based on the 1832 play Le roi s'amuse by Victor Hugo. Despite serious initial problems with the Austrian censors who had control over northern Italian theatres at the time, the opera had a triumphant premiere at La Fenice in Venice on 11 March 1851.The work, Verdi's sixteenth in the genre, is widely considered to be the first of the operatic masterpieces of Verdi's middle-to-late career. Its tragic story revolves around the licentious Duke of Mantua, his hunch-backed court jester Rigoletto, and Rigoletto's daughter Gilda.
