The Christmas Oratorio (German: Weihnachts-Oratorium), BWV 248, is an oratorio by Johann Sebastian Bach intended for performance in church during the Christmas season. It was written for the Christmas season of 1734 and incorporates music from earlier compositions, including three secular cantatas written during 1733 and 1734 and a largely lost church cantata, BWV 248a. The date is confirmed in Bach's autograph manuscript. The next performance was not until 17 December 1857 by the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin under Eduard Grell. The Christmas Oratorio is a particularly sophisticated example of parody music. The author of the text is unknown, although a likely collaborator was Christian Friedrich Henrici (Picander).The work belongs to a group of three oratorios written in 1734 and 1735 for major feasts, the other two works being the Ascension Oratorio (BWV 11) and the Easter Oratorio (BWV 249). All three of these oratorios to some degree parody earlier compositions. The Christmas Oratorio is by far the longest and most complex work of the three.The Christmas Oratorio is in six parts, each part being intended for performance on one of the major feast days of the Christmas period. The piece is often presented as a whole or split into two equal parts. The total running time for the entire work is nearly three hours.The first part (for Christmas Day) describes the Birth of Jesus, the second (for December 26) the annunciation to the shepherds, the third (for December 27) the adoration of the shepherds, the fourth (for New Year's Day) the circumcision and naming of Jesus, the fifth (for the first Sunday after New Year) the journey of the Magi, and the sixth (for Epiphany) the adoration of the Magi.

This arrangement adapted for brass quartet was designed to make its listeners weep with emotion, because the adaptation preserves the original essence of the work, keeping its integrity faithful to what Beethoven wanted to transmit, with only a slight change in tone and addition of harmonic resources in the structure of the arrangement. Even though it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion, being intended for beginner students who want to immerse themselves in the universe of romantic music, and nothing better than starting with the transitional composer of this period, which also does not prevent professional teachers from using it for recitals, academic presentations or didactic material in their classes as an ensemble practice. Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C minor sharp, Op. 27, No. 2, is one of his most popular compositions and was an audience favorite even in his day. Written when Beethoven was 31, the Moonlight Sonata (Mondscheinsonate in German) was composed after he finished some commissioned works, but there is no evidence that he was hired to write this work. It did not receive its nickname until 1832, five years after Beethoven's death. It was the critic Ludwig Rellstab who compared the music to a moonlighting on Lake Lucerne. This comparison was adopted as a nickname for the work. Called Quasi una fantasia by the author - like its companion Op. 27, No. 1 - the piece was completed in 1801 and dedicated the following year to one of the composer's pupils. Beethoven chose to open the sonata with a slow, hypnotic arpeggio movement, the best known of the entire work. The dotted rhythm of its minimal melody evokes the tradition of 'Trauermusik' (funeral music).

Little Brown Jug is a song written in 1869 by Joseph Eastburn Winner, originally published in Philadelphia with the author listed as Winner's middle name Eastburn.It was originally a drinking song. It remained well known as a folk song into the early 20th century. Like many songs which make reference to alcohol, it enjoyed new popularity during the Prohibition era. In 1939, bandleader Glenn Miller recorded and broadcast his swing instrumental arrangement of the tune with great success, and the number became one of the best known orchestrations of the American Big Band era.The same melody was used for the song My Ding-a-Ling written by Dave Bartholomew, which became a Number 1 hit in 1972 for Chuck Berry.

Chadwick's lyrics are clearly inspired but are not a direct translation of the song, though there are similarities. It is considered a derivative work. The English translation of the hymn was completed by the Anglican priest, scholar, and hymn-writer John Mason Neale (1818-1866) and published in his Hymns of the Eastern Church (1862).  Come, Ye Faithful, Raise the Strain is typically sung to either of two hymn tunes: ST. KEVIN, by the English composer Sir Arthur Sullivan (1842-1900), and GAUDEAMUS PARITER, by the Bohemian bishop, hymn writer and composer Jan Roh (c. 1487-1547). The latter tune is the basis for this arrangement. Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern (How Brightly Shines the Morning Star) was written by the German Lutheran pastor, poet, and composer Philipp Nicolai (1556-1608) and published in a collection of his hymns in 1599. Based on Psalm 45, Nicolai's text identifies Jesus Christ as the celestial bridegroom of the psalm and with the bright morning star described in Revelation 22:16.Nicolai also authored and published the hymn, Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme (Sleepers, Wake! A Voice Astounds Us) in the same 1599 collection. Together, Wachet Auf and Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern have been called The King and Queen of Chorales.Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1780) used the Morning Star chorale as the basis of his cantata, Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern (BWV 1) and individual verses of the text in several other cantatas. Bach also used the tune as the basis for several organ preludes. It was written in reply to the Vietnam War riots at the Democrat National Convention in Chicago on August 29, 1968. It was carried live on television at that time. The reason why I did this was because the news is predicting a repeat at the Democrat National Convention this year (2024). The DNC just happens to be in Chicago again and the riots are bring predicted, again, against a war, the Israeli-Hamas war. I am hoping this arrangement will help remind people of those days and, hopefully, stop the prediction. In the original key from the band Chicago's first double lp Chicago Transit Authority. It was the second song on the 4th side, following Prologue. Both Prologue and Someday used actual audio from the riots. Duration = 4:25. The British Grenadiers is a traditional marching song of British, Australian and Canadian military units whose badge of identification features a grenade, the tune of which dates from the 17th century. It is the Regimental Quick March of the Royal Artillery (since 1716), Corps of Royal Engineers (since 1787), the Honourable Artillery Company (since 1716), Grenadier Guards 'The First (later 'Grenadier') Regiment of Foot Guards' (since 1763), and the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (since 1763). It is also an authorised march of the Royal Australian Artillery, The Royal Gibraltar Regiment, The Royal Regiment of Canadian Artillery, The Royal Regiment of Canada, The Princess Louise Fusiliers, and The 5th Canadian Mounted Rifles. The standard orchestration for the military band was approved in 1762, when the Royal Artillery Band (initiated in 1557) became recognised officially, and for all other 'grenade' regiments in 1763, when the remaining unofficial bands gained official status.
