Published by Stephanie Daige (A0.796864). This little fugue is one of Bach's most famous and beloved keyboard works. Re-imagined for brass quintet, it is a challenging and fun setting for this fugue. The five instruments take turns entering with the subject of the fugue, and interplay back and forth with the other instruments. The timbres of the different instruments add a whole new textural dimension to this already fascinating work by J.S. Bach. I considered the need to breathe for each of these brass instruments, which obviously wasn’t an issue in the original version intended for organ. This piece would be appropriate for advanced high school students, college students,or professionals. It would do well in a chamber music concert, a church, or between acts of a larger ensemble concert,perhaps in another location of the auditorium while a (quiet!) set change is taking place. It would also work well as prelude or lobby music. The duration is just over three minutes (or longer if you prefer to take it slower). Each measure is numbered individually for convenience during rehearsals. I hope you will enjoy performing this piece as much as I have enjoyed arranging it! Each fugue is a masterpiece in its own right. Number 15 is an unfinished four-voice, quadruple fugue. Only the first three subjects are introduced, the third being a chromatic subject built from the letters of Bach’s name-B (B-flat), A, C, H (B-natural). Just at the point where all three subjects are combined, the manuscript breaks off, and C. P. E. Bach wrote in the score that the composer has died. Bach clearly intended that the original Art of Fugue theme was to be the final subject and all four themes would combine in a glorious climax. Whether he intended to finish the work or leave it up to others to complete is conjecture. About 8 minutes in length.

Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott (Our God is a secure fortress), BWV 80 is a church cantata based on Martin Luther's that Bach composed for Reformation Day around the year 1723. This movement Aria and Chorale is the second movement of the cantata. The Euphonium/Trombone part performs the bass solo and the Trumpet 1 part performs the Soprano/Oboe solo which is the Chorale itself in an embellished style of the melody. Justin Bland has done a superb job of arranging this beautiful movement of about 4.5 minutes in length for moderately advanced performers. Instrumentation is: Trumpet 1 (C and B-flat parts are provided), Trumpet 2/Flugelhorn in B-flat, Horn, Euphonium/Trombone in bass clef and Tuba.?

A true work of genius that was first published in 1741 for harpsichord. The Aria a Sarabande about 5 minutes in length in 3/4 is the very first movement of the 30 variation work and is heavily ornamented. Justin Chiang has doubled the time to 6/4 and written out all of the ornaments, making the performance possibilities much more practical. This work is appropriate for advanced performers for the following instruments: 2 Trumpets in C, Horn in F, Trombone and Tuba (Bass Trombone).
