Sextet) begins with extraneous motifs leading into the first statement of the theme in the low brass offset by answering material in the trumpets. The pieces continues in this question and answer texture passing motivic material around the parts. Then in a transition mimicking the beginning a modulation takes place where the theme is more expressive and becomes more aggressive leading up to a majestic coda where it ends on a thought-provoking conclusion.

Each of the 14 fugues and canons is a musical miracle using a variation of a single subject from the initial fugue 1. Written in the last years of his life, the final fugue is unfinished. Contrapunctus VI is in four parts and written in Stylo Francese. This style has little flourishes of scale-like 32nd notes ascending and desending along with dotted rhythms, together called the French style. The work is suitable for advanced performers and is about 5-6 minutes in length. Parts are for 2 Trumpets in C (B-flat parts are provided), Horn, Trombone and Tuba (or Bass Trombone).

Questa celebre Ave Maria risale molto probabilmente al XVI secolo ed è tradizionalmente attribuita al compositore franco-fiammingo Jacques (o Jacob) Arcadelt (1505-1568) che fu anche magister puerorum (cioè: direttore del coro delle voci bianche) e successivamente maestro del coro della Cappella Sistina in Roma. In realtà , questo brano – nella versione che noi conosciamo e con le parole del saluto angelico – fu edito per la prima volta nel 1842 da Pierre-Louis Philippe Dietsch (1808 - 1865), un oscuro e modesto compositore francese, che riprendeva la chanson profana a tre voci Nous voyons que les hommes, questa sì composta da Jacques Arcadelt per sole voci femminili ed apparsa per la prima volta a stampa nel 1554 in Tiers livre de chansons, nouvellement mises en musique à quatre, presso l’editore Le Roy & Ballard, in Parigi. La parte del basso, in particolare, è interamente lavoro di Dietsch che ne ha anche modificato l’assetto ritmico per adattarlo al nuovo testo, e ha aggiunto la cadenza plagale con la parola conclusiva Amen. Vari musicisti, in seguito, si sono cimentati sia nel modificare le linee di battuta, sia le durate di alcune note, sia la stessa divisione delle sillabe, per tentare  di correggere quello che è considerato lo stress della parola latina.

Orfeo ed Euridice is an opera composed by Christoph Willibald Gluck, based on the myth of Orpheus and set to a libretto by Ranieri de' Calzabigi. It belongs to the genre of the azione teatrale, meaning an opera on a mythological subject with choruses and dancing.The piece was first performed at the Burgtheater in Vienna on 5 October 1762, in the presence of Empress Maria Theresa. Orfeo ed Euridice is the first of Gluck's reform operas, in which he attempted to replace the abstruse plots and overly complex music of opera seria with a noble simplicity in both the music and the drama.The opera is the most popular of Gluck's works, and was one of the most influential on subsequent German operas. Lord Chesterfield, Thomas Gray, George Lyttelton, Thomas Hollis, Metastasio, Benedict XIV and Heinrich von Brühl were among his correspondents.''The Sicilienne and Rigaudon is one of the many pieces that violin virtuoso Fritz Kreisler composed in the style of other composers. When he first presented and published these pieces, he offered them as recently discovered works by those other composers, newly adapted and arranged by himself. In the case of Sicilienne and Rigaudon, it is eighteenth-century French violinist/composer François Francoeur whose name is on the title sheet, though the piece really has nothing to do with Francoeur's style.The piece is a simple and a charming one, however. The Sicilienne is a binary-form miniature that sweeps along on a characteristic dotted rhythm, with a rather melancholy melody. Think old French ballet. The constant 16th notes of the Rigaudon, give it a character quite unlike that of a traditional rigaudon-a cheerful Baroque dance movement in duple meter.

Published by Peet du Toit (A0.1372453). This religious solo motet was composed when Mozart was staying in Milan. During the production of his opera Lucio Silla which was being performed there in the Teatro Regio Ducale. It was written for the castrato Venanzio Rauzzini, who had sung the part of the primo uomo Cecilio in Lucio Silla the previous year. While waiting for the end of the run (from 26 December 1772 to 25 January 1773), Mozart composed the motet for his singer, whose technical excellence he admired. Its first performance took place at the Theatine Church on 17 January 1773, while Rauzzini was still singing in Mozart's opera at night. Mozart made some revisions around 1780. On 30 May 1779, a Trinity Sunday, a revised version was performed by Francesco Ceccarelli at the Holy Trinity Church, Salzburg. Another revised version was intended for Christmas. The manuscripts of the two Salzburg versions were discovered in 1978 in St. Jakob, Wasserburg am Inn. In modern times, the motet is usually sung by a female soprano.I was tempted to combine the soprano and a brass quintet. We have performed this arrangement quite successfully at many venues, including a national music festival (Wakkerstroom, South Africa, March 2023).
