This is the catchy calypso song from the spectacular dance scene in Central Park from the 2007 Disney flick Enchanted. If you've never seen it, at least check out that part of it (I think it's on YouTube). It's just fun, and it's a great song. It was nominated (along with two other songs also from Enchanted) for the Oscar for best original song. They all lost to an awful song you've never heard from a movie you've never seen. I think maybe the Academy has developed an allergy to Disney. Paul McCartney once called God Only Knows the greatest song ever written.” That might in part be because Brian Wilson's previous work concentrated heavily on fast cars, nubile girls and surfboards. But there's no question it's a beautiful song, and one that lends itself nicely and fairly easily to an adaptation for brass quintet. This arrangement is for two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba and relies a great deal on the same soaring French horn sound that Wilson and his writing partner, Tony Asher, used in the original.If you need alternative instrumentation, I'm happy to accommodate. Use your imagination.If you've ever been to the Munich (Munchen, auch mit umlaut) Oktoberfest, this song is everywhere (as it is with most Oktoberfest celebrations everywhere). But it's always a part of the program at the Munich Hofbrauhaus.The song was written in Berlin in 1935. Wilhelm Wiga Gabriel wrote other songs as well, mostly for the Nazis. Keith Terrett #748189. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1147994). The regional anthem of Bougainville arranged for Classical Brass Quintet. Bougainville is an autonomous area of Papua New Guinea. Autonomous since 2000, it voted for independence in 2019, which is scheduled to be obtained before 2027. The anthem of the autonomous territory was adopted in 2018 and will most likely be adopted as the new nation’s anthem once independence is achieved. Titled “My Bougainvilleâ€, the melody is that of the Australian patriotic song “The Song of Australia†(one of four songs considered on a national plebiscite for that country’s anthem, but was rejected), the lyricist is unknown. It is not uncommon for anthems in the Pacific region to use the tune of a patriotic song or hymn of a current or former colonizer (as evidenced by the “Pacific hymn†genre of anthems); Australia governed Bougainville as a part of Papua New Guinea from after World War I to Papua New Guinea’s independence in 1975. This well known folk song from Newfoundland has been arranged to feature the brass quintet with a Bohdran or Drum.I tried to capture the feeling of Newfoundland after visiting several times, and having family there.It features all of the instruments, beginning with a mysterious, somber tuba solo accompanied by fog horn sounds played by horn and trombone along with muted trumpets imitating a calm sea.This builds to rhapsodic climax, ending mysteriosly with the tuba.The Bohdran/Drum part is a nice addition, but there are options if one is not available. Please see notes at the end of the score.The sound example is the transition from the Celtic part with Bohdran into the climax. (Measures 62-73).

Genesis 28:11–12 can be translated as follows: So he came to a certain place and stayed there all night, because the sun had set. And he took one of the stones of that place and put it at his head, and he lay down in that place to sleep. Then he dreamed, and behold, a ladder was set up on the earth, and its top reached to heaven; and there the angels of God were ascending and descending on it…. The hymn is well known, among other uses, as the alleged last song the band on RMS Titanic played before the ship sank. The extra parts are not necessary, but are provided if you have extra players such as a Bb Piccolo Trumpet & Bb Trombone/Euphonium in TC.New Orleans-born clarinetist Barney Bigard is likely the originator of this tune, a simple blues riff in the key of C. Since Bigard was a veteran member of Duke Ellington’s Orchestra in 1941, Duke had a slice of the pie, too, and undoubtedly arranged the piece for the orchestra. Yet Duke referred to the number somewhat disparagingly as “one of our more or less trite things.â€The number was introduced in a Soundie short film. These three-minute features, produced to be shown on a jukebox-type player, illustrated the band miming to a pre-recorded performance. Entitled “Jam Session†the Soundie was filmed late in 1941 along with four other Ellington numbers. Duke introduces various band members, who then solo: Ray Nance (violin), Ben Webster (tenor sax), Rex Stewart (cornet), Joe “Tricky Sam†Nanton (trombone), and Sonny Greer (drums). The complete ensemble carries the tune to its finish with composer Bigard (clarinet) providing some improvised upper register piping.“C Jam Blues†was formally recorded under that title in January, 1942, for RCA Victor Records. It continued be a staple of the Ellington repertoire, generally featuring a handful of the soloists in the band.Co-composer Barney Bigard left Duke’s band in June 1942, and after a period of freelancing joined Louis Armstrong’s All-Stars in August, 1947. “C Jam Blues†was one of his nightly features with Satch’s ensemble along with “Tea for Two.†Despite playing the tune hundreds, or perhaps even thousands of times during his tenure with Ellington and Armstrong, he continued to perform it during his freelance years in the 1950s until shortly before his death in 1980.In the late-1950s very simple words were added (“Baby, let’s go down to ‘Duke’s Place’,†etc.) which strangely took a three-member team of writers to assemble: songwriters William Katz and Ruth Roberts and record producer Bob Thiele. Clarinetist Barney Bigard was not included in the composer credits of the song version, although he was a member of Louis Armstrong’s All-Stars when they recorded “Duke’s Place,†featuring Louis on the vocal, with Ellington in 1961.The piece typically features several improvised solos. The final solo continues in the upper register as the entire ensemble comes in and the music grows to a climax. Adopted in 1922, the anthem's words are by John Grandell and the music was composed by Johan Fridolf Hagfors. The song was first performed during the song festival in Mariehamn 1922. In Åland the song is mostly sung on Midsummer's Eve and on the National day of Åland in June 9th. De facto Anthems of the Confederate States of America ''I Wish I Was in Dixie & Taps''- ''God Save the South No. 1'' - The Bonnie Blue Flag, ''God Save the South No. 2'', arranged for Brass Quintet & Percussion.The Confederate States of America (also referred to as The Confederacy or simply The South) had, like the United States at the time, several patriotic songs in use which could have been considered anthems, like Dixie, The Bonnie Blue Flag, and God Save the South, none of which were officially declared (possibly because declaring an official anthem wasn’t as important to a new nation then as it is now). God Save the South does have more of an anthemaic quality in the music and lyrics, and several publications of the song refer to it as a (or the) anthem, and was also the first song to be published in the Confederacy (which was subsequently published in at least nine editions).God Save the South was written by George H. Miles under the pseudonym Earnest Halphin, soon after the war started. Miles was a Marylander, a state that did not officially secede and join the confederacy, but, being a border state, had several citizens with sympathies for the south. An interesting thing to note about the song is the reference to George Washington (the first president of the United States) in the song’s fifth verse. Apparently, the author of the song meant to tie in Washington’s stance as a rebel against the British in the American revolution with the South’s rebellion against the northern United States in the civil war.The music was written by C. The Finnish NA arranged for Brass Quintet.There also versions for String & full Orchestra in my two stores.The anthem lyrics were taken from a poem by Johan Ludvig Runeberg, a Swedish-speaking poet, called “VÃ¥rt land†(Our Land). The song was first sung in 1848 by a student group and became popular in Scandinavia and many of his patriotic poems, including VÃ¥rt land were used by promoters of Finnish nationalism. The poem was translated into Finnish some decades later, after VÃ¥rt land was well established as a national song, by Paavo Eemil Kajander and became the anthem before 1917 independence. Estonia‘s anthem, adopted 20 years later, has the same melody, however the last few lines do not repeat as they do normally in the Finnish anthem. Interestingly, the anthem has never been officially legislated as the Finnish anthem, but rather is traditionally used as the anthem. As such, there is no standard way to perform the 11-verse anthem, but usually the first and the last verses (as presented here) are sung. There sometimes arises a debate in Finland to change the anthem to Jean Sibelius’ song “Finlandia†(the melody was used in Biafra), a song recognized internationally as a symbol of Finland, but the general opinion seems to be for now to keep the current anthem. He suggested it as a quintet piece (he liked us mostly because we played some of his favorite Dixieland tunes). The result is, well, at least a little bit weird. The original haunting Pat Metheny recording was played on electric sitar, with a high-speed snare drum providing train effect. I wanted to achieve the same thing, so the horns take care of it throughout the piece (with tuba providing it from start to finish). And the song needed a train horn for effect. I wanted to know what chord a train whistle blew, and the Internet told me it was a ninth chord. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.746484). The regional anthem of the EU arranged for Brass Quintet. The melody used to symbolize the EU comes from the Ninth Symphony composed in 1823 by Ludwig Van Beethoven, when he set music to the Ode to Joy, Friedrich von Schiller's lyrical verse from 1785. The anthem symbolises not only the European Union but also Europe in a wider sense. The poem Ode to Joy expresses Schiller's idealistic vision of the human race becoming brothers - a vision Beethoven shared. In 1972, the Council of Europe adopted Beethoven's Ode to Joy theme as its anthem. In 1985, it was adopted by EU leaders as the official anthem of the European Union. There are no words to the anthem; it consists of music only. In the universal language of music, this anthem expresses the European ideals of freedom, peace and solidarity. The European anthem is not intended to replace the national anthems of the EU countries but rather to celebrate the values they share. The anthem is played at official ceremonies involving the European Union and generally at all sorts of events with a European character. Ode to Joy (German original title: An die Freude) is the anthem of the European Union and the Council of Europe; both of which refer to it as the European Anthem due to the Council's intention that, as a semi-modern composition with a mythological flair, it does represent Europe as a whole, rather than any organisation. It is based on the final movement of Beethoven's 9th Symphony composed in 1823, and is played on official occasions by both organisations.
