Arranged for Classical Brass Quintet & Optional Percussion, Saba, you rise from the ocean is the regional song of the Caribbean island Saba, a special municipality of the Netherlands. The anthem was written and composed by Christina Maria Jeurissen, a Dominican nun, in 1960. It was established by the Island Council on 6 December 1985 and officially ratified on 10 October 2010. Many of my national anthem are now available on Nomadplay app. Saba (/ˈseɪbÉ™/ (listen); Dutch: Saba, pronounced [ˈsaËbÉ‘] (listen) is a Caribbean island which is the smallest special municipality (officially “public bodyâ€) of the Netherlands. It consists largely of the active volcano Mount Scenery, which at 887 metres (2,910 ft) is the highest point of the entire Kingdom of the Netherlands. The island lies in the northern Leeward Islands portion of the West Indies, southeast of the Virgin Islands. Together with Bonaire and Sint Eustatius it forms the BES islands. Saba has a land area of 13 square kilometres (5.0 sq mi). The population was 1,933 in January 2020, with a population density of 148 inhabitants per square kilometre (380/sq mi). It is the smallest territory by permanent population in the Americas. Its towns and major settlements are The Bottom (the capital), Windwardside, Zion's Hill and St. Johns.

The Boar's Head CarolThis Christmas carol talks about a feast during midwinter in which a wild boar was served as the main dish and its head placed in a situated position to symbolize bravery and abundance. Closely related to the Norse tradition of boar sacrifice to their goddess Freyja during the feast of Winter Solstice, this song originated from an urban legend in Queen's College, Oxford back in the 15th century which tells of how a scholar from Queen’s College managed to kill an attacking boar and offered it at dinner.The song was first published in English during the 1520’s in a book entitled Christmase Carolles Newly Emprynted at London in the flete street, which was written by Jan van Wynken de Worde. It is also said to be the very 1st Christmas carol to ever be publish in English because it dates back that early.Although the modern versions of the song makes no mention of Christmas, the original verses does so in The boar's head we bring with song, in worship of Him that thus sprung, of a Virgin to redress all wrong; NoelThis Intermediate Level arrangement starts out in Bb Major and modulates to C Major for the final chorus. Riu, Riu, Chiu is a villancico (carol) attributed to Mateo Flecha the Elder (1481-1553), a Catalonian composer and cathedral music director of the Renaissance era.Flecha (Catalan: Mateu Flexta) was well-known for his ensaladas (literally, salads - works for four or five voices - and villancicos, a type of popular song in the vernacular (common language). Orignally a secular genre, villancicos gained popularity in the second half of the 16th century as a religious song form. Devotional villancicos, which were often intended to teach and reinforce theological principles, became very popular in the 17th century and continued in popularity until the decline of the genre in the 18th-19th centuries.Riu, Riu, Chiu is a lesson in Catholic doctrine on the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary and the Incarnation of Christ the Redeemer. This arrangement presents four of the carol's seven verses as well as the refrain that opens the song and is repeated between verses. Published by Will Corbin (A0.1463555). A saxophonist was playing this catchy song outside New Orleans' Cafe du Monde one morning when I was visiting. When I figured out what the tune was, I was driven to arrange it for our quintet. The result is at least good for one illustration: If you thought you needed drums for calypso or Latin, think again. Horns work pretty well.Jazz tenor sax great Sonny Rollins wrote this, mostly as a vehicle for improvisation. It's based on a Bahamian folk melody called Sponger Money, which may or may not be based on a British folk song called The Lincolnshire Poacher. Whatever the case, it's a variation on a song Rollins' mother sang to him when he was a child in the Virgin Islands.This arrangement -- not as easy to play as it looks, because of the rhythms -- is for two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba. The song was a success on its initial release and was certified Gold by the RIAA on August 18, 1971 and Platinum on April 10, 2017. The song became one of John Denver's most popular and beloved songs, and is still very popular around the world. The song also has a prominent status as an iconic symbol of West Virginia, which it describes as "almost Heaven". I was made an Honorary West Virginian in 2005 by Governor Joe Manchin, and so I dedicate the arrangement for brass quintet to the Heaven like State.
