Published by John Murphy (A0.841183). My guitar arrangement of Spancil Hill includes notes, tab, chords, lyrics as well as an intro and patterns that serve to accompany the song. Spancil Hill continues to be a very popular Irish ballad with listeners and guitar players. I have included the chords so that you can use them as an easy accompaniment for a singer or other instrument such as recorder, violin or flute that takes the treble clef melody part. Use the Intro of this arrangement as a basis for the R.H. fingerstyle pattern for song accompaniment . Also weave in and out of picking melody and bass patterns with the guitar fills I include in the score to add interest to the accompaniment . Check out 'The Dubliners' version on YouTube and if you want to play along you just need to place the capo at the 5th fret on your guitar and play the same chords as in this arrangement. I also recorded the audio clip with the capo on the guitar at the 5th fret. Listen to this intro to Spancil Hill and you will get a good idea how to accompany the song using a flat picking technique of plectrum picking out the bass notes interspersed with a Down Down Up Down strum plectrum rhythm. “Mattonya” is a soloacoustic finger-style guitar composition. Like “Krisomas”, “Mattonya” was composed for Mattand Tonya’s wedding, hence the name. “Mattonya” is from my release “BeyondWords” and included in my newest compilation. “Together As One” which is songsI composed for weddings as “Mattonya” created this theme. “Mattonya” opens with no intro, gets right to the theme. The theme is in 4/4 and switches elegantly to 6/8, a delightful change. “Mattonya” could be a welcome part of your show and is appropriate for schools, students, and church services for special events or concerts. "Mattonya" is an easy flowing piece which needs compassion. The 6/8 section does need to be steady and aggressive. Practice this section with a metronome starting out about 90 BPM's or what's comfortable. Then build up to 125 BPM's, the original tempo. It's important to adhere to the fingering, it works really well. Standard tuning. I've had a lot of success with "Mattonya" and I'm confident you will too! Enjoy and please share your comments.
