The symphonic poem format was becoming very popular at the time with other great composers, with this work following the storyline of the poem rather closely.The music, which was already a popular concert piece rocketed to stardom when it was included as one of the eight animated segments of the great Disney movie Fantasia conducted by Leopold Stokowski.Jim Tempest has done a brilliant job of arranging this 7-minute slightly abridged version of the work for 12-part Brass Ensemble (of advanced performers), Timpani & Percussion (played by one musician).Instrumentation is for 5 Trumpets (including Piccolo in B-flat & Flugelhorn), 2 Horns, 3 Trombones, Euphonium, Tuba, Timpani & Percussion.
