In keeping with that idea, this work consists of two distinct pieces, the first - Transfigured Life - aims to draw in the listener with its quick, dancing rhythm and simple, melodic violin part. It 'transfigures' via a few short solo piano interludes into just two alternating notes to end - which are the core of the original idea, now made clear by clearing everything else out of the way.The second piece - Still Life - retains its sense of stillness through an uncomplicated piano line that gives lots of space for the violin's contrasting (but again simple) part. As an absolute, not programmatic, piece the title refers to the atmospheric colour and pacing only; it's up to the listener to see 'Still life' of their choosing in their own mind.A note on performance: Despite my reference to 'simple' lines, and the work's determined avoidance of mainstream modernist squeak - the work has certain performance challenges of phrasing and ensemble that requires considerable skill and musicianship. Their purpose was wanting to help the victims of the recent earthquake and tsunami that devastated parts of Japan on March 11th. The meeting was organized by Mr. Alex Kurosawa, president of KPMF and held in San Jose, CA. At the end of the meeting and after much discussion about holding a series of concerts with all funds going to the disaster victims, it was suggested that I compose a new song for the project that would let those afflicted in Japan know they would not be forgotten.I was so inspired by the dedication and volunteerism of all the people at the meeting that I went home and composed a new piece of music entitled: THERE IS HOPE THROUGH MUSIC. After a favorable response from the group, I began composing another piece for violin and piano entitled: THE FINAL WAVE. In this piece, I tried to paint the horror, destruction, uncertainty and sadness of the disaster while giving hope for a future for the people who witnessed this catastrophic event. Unfortunately, THE FINAL WAVE was never completed as planned back in 2011. However, eleven years later, I completed this memorable piano and violin duet. Even though it’s been many years since that terrible day of March 11, 2011, the music can still convey emotions of melancholy, discord, resilience and compassion for tragic and unforeseeable events of today. This timeless work is dedicated to remember and give hope to all those affected by disasters and catastrophic tragedies. This advanced level of music is clearly notated for piano and violin and can be an extraordinary supplemental selection for recitals and concerts. Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf (1739-1799) drew attention to himself even as a child due to his musical talent: At the age of seven he took violin lessons, only three years later he was hired as a violinist in Vienna and played little solos. His numerous compositions and particularly his 'singspiels' (song-plays) were very popular with the audience: Ditters von Dittersdorf's comedy 'Der Apotheker und der Doktor' even outdid Mozart's 'Le nozze di Figaro' in contemporary popularity in 1786. In 1766 Dittersdorf wrote the Violin Concerto in C major while being in service as leader of a music band in Großwardein, a post he had accepted in succession to Michael Haydn. The solo part was probably played by the composer himself at the first performance. The concerto is a work that is fun to play: A pleasant, particularly concertante Allegro moderato is followed by a playful cantabile Andante and a Presto as virtuoso finale.Das Violinkonzert C-Dur schrieb Dittersdorf im Jahre 1766 in seiner Zeit als Leiter der Musikkapelle in Großwardein, eine Stelle, die er in der Nachfolge von Michael Haydn angetreten hatte.
