It is written in concert D major a traditional song format, with verses, choruses and middle eight. It is a slow sentimental contemplative piece written with the intermediate player in mind- the violin range is one and a half octaves with the lowest note F sharp. Bowing has been left to the performer. Full score is nine pages long, violin 3 pages, Piano 6 and around six minutes in length. The youtube link has the full score for you to assess suitability. It would be particularly suitable for a concerts, small gatherings, family occasions, weddings, church services, incidental music etc.

English • German.Hungarian composer and violinist Jenö Hubay, born Eugen Huber, received his musical training in Budapest and made his concert début with Viotti’s Violin Concerto No. 22 in A minor. He spent three years in Berlin, where he studied violin with Joseph Joachim. After his return he met Franz Liszt, who recommended that he travel to Paris. In that city he was a welcome guest at musical salons; he also formed a friendship with Henri Vieuxtemps. Hubay taught groups of violin students first in Brussels, then for a long time in Budapest. For twenty-five years he toured Europe as a virtuoso violinist, settling in Switzerland for a while before returning to Budapest for the rest of his life. His chamber compositions include a series of little pieces very probably written for his own use at musical salons, along with character pieces reminiscent of his Hungarian homeland and exotic pieces such as Plaintes arabes (Arabian Lament), an expressive and mournful lament on the violin. Eight scenes depicting Hellenic History from 6th century B.C., or even earlier, up to our days, based on fragments of ancient Greek music, folk and byzantine tradition and rebetiko song tunes as well. From Greece of the distand past, to Greece of the present and, maybe, to Greece of the years to come, Hellas of the Future. The work is dedicated to the Greek Composer Giannis Konstantinidis. It has been performed by Andrea Hemmenway and Konstantinos Papadakis in Fall Arts Concert organised by Hellenic University Club of Philadelphia in The Ethical Society Hall of Philadelphia in 2010. The same artists perfomed the work at Kendal Concert Hall in Kendal, Pennsylvania in 2011. Version for viola and piano available. Excerpts of violin - piano version has been performed by Tania Sikelianou and Timos Gennatos at : Ellinikon Eidyllion, Selianitika, Aigion in 2011.
