My Mother had some sad news to give me. Dad was very ill. My whole life flashed before me. My parents were always 200% supportive of all my artistic endeavors. None of my success would have been possible but for my Dad and Mom. My memories of my Dad and my Mom flooded my mind like a deluge. When I heard the news about how gravely ill he was I thought to myself that so often we give thanks, honor, or show our love when it is too late. Who wants to be that person? I was finally in the unique position to show my gratitude and love to my parents in the most special way that I could - through music from my heart and soul. I got the courage to look deeply within and then I began to write what was to become the first and second songs, respectively Tears from My Eyes: Remember Your Feelings and Tears from My Eyes: Reflection and Contemplation on my Tears from My Eyes: Songs from my Soul album.You will now be able to do just the same for your loved ones with this new music. Your intermediate level to advanced students and even professional musicians should find this to be a welcomed piece to learn and master. It looks deceptively simple but the learning and challenge comes from two smaller sub-ensembles playing together in their own collective units legato con moto while playing together as a whole music ensemble Everyone will enjoy and bathe in the beautiful harmonies that will resonate when the entire music ensemble begins to listen to each while playing together as a group. Your musicians will hone their skills in playing together with just the right balance that this song requires. Your musicians will also hone their skills for subdividing and maintaining an inner beat that is in sync with your conducting because there is no percussion and the notes are freely flowing on and off the down beat yet not sounding heavily syncopated when performed. When will you know when you have achieved the right balance and flow of the music? You will know when, because you will hear it and feel it when it comes into place. But I can help you with all of this with what I have to offer you today. I share with you now the final and 5th movement to Tears from my Eyes - Onward and Upward (for String Orchestra). This particular was created and produced after the Songs from My Soul album was sent for distribution. So, this song has yet to be officially released. All five movements will be released as an album Mourning in the Rain. This 5th movement Onward and Upward has a decisive emotional resolution and conviction in its pathos. She attended the premiere of the Flute, violin and piano arrangement in Bolton, UK, and was highly amused (and not a little chuffed) by the story behind the piece!Naturally, the piece is dedicated to my mother, Margaret (Pearl) Denny, and was finally written in June 2015 for Gary Woolf and the Banda Di Musica in Germany.Its duration is about 7/8 minutes long and it is intended for junior strings. Violins 1 and 2 are of moderate difficulty, while the Violin 3/violas, cellos/basses are simpler.There is a violin solo throughout (moderate difficulty), to be played by the Leader, but is not a concerto-style solo, but rather one that weaves in and out of the texture throughout the piece.The piece is in a minuet and Trio style and is light, tuneful and fun. There are 3 arrangements available:No.1 – School Arrangement: Violins 1, 2 and 3, Cellos 1 and 2No.2 – Standard Arrangement: Violins 1 and 2, violas, cellos, Double bassesNo.3 – Violin, flute and piano.  This arrangement is of a more advanced standard than the string orchestra arrangements and would suit players of approximately grade 7 upwards.

The goal is to accommodate all levels of playing in the preparation and performance of a symphonic masterwork. In this arrangement, there are 3 difficulty levels for each individual string section, labeled A, B, and C, respectively. Each level is a decreasing level of technical and musical difficulty, level A being the highest level of difficulty. The A level is close to, if not exactly the same as, the original string part, plus the integration of wind parts when applicable. B and C follow in a proportional reduction of difficulty level. For this solution to be most effective, some students should be encouraged to play the most challenging parts simultaneously with those playing the simpler parts. This presents the opportunity to participate in a performance that includes most of the original material. The B and C parts cover enough of the surface material while maintaining a modicum of independence from the A part. In other words, the B and C parts are able to hold their own in performance without the A parts. For example, let’s say you have a couple of talented violinists and a few more that are well below their playing level, only two violists that need a great deal of help, a plethora of cellists with a wide range of abilities, and one single bass player that is a beginner. Your distribution of parts may look something like this: Violin 1 - two on Violin 1A, one on Violin 1C, and the rest on Violin 1B Violin 2 - one on Violin 2B, the rest on Violin 2C Viola - both on Viola C Cello - three on Cello A, one on Cello B, and the rest on Cello C Bass - one on Bass C This potential setup will challenge each player at their current level of development while creating the context for a moving experience with a major orchestral work. A Note about the Score and Printing The full score is designed to be printed in portrait orientation on 17x11 tabloid size paper. Even at this size, the score can be confusing to read, especially if you are not covering every difficulty level part. Back then there was a small shop on Buncrana’s high street that sold everything from milk to DIY tools. And the name of the shop was “John Thinn And Sonâ€. I thought this was an awesome name and I remember the shop owner, the real Mr. Thinn, being a lovely kindly, rather shy and gentle man. And this inspired my childhood mind’s character of Mr.Thinn the magic-toy maker.  The 2nd theme arrived in September 2011 as soon as I had decided that Mr.Thinn’s first tune had waited long enough and now needed to find a permanent home. Once again writing for the wonderful Banda di musica has given me a unique chance to release an old and very special melody that has lain neglected and home-less for over 3 decades. The resulting piece is light hearted, fun and in a simple ABA form.There are 2 arrangements;No. 1 – School Arrangement ; Violins 1, 2 and 3, Cellos 1 and 2No. 2 – Standard Arrangement ; Violins 1 and 2, Viola, Cello and Double BassThere are a few violin and cello solos throughout which are to be played by the section leaders. AUDIO SAMPLE The 30 second mp3 is frequently shortened and may not start at the introduction to get to the reprise. The actual introduction will be in the sheet music. LISTENABILITY I have performed thousands of weddings and special events. I make it a goal for the music to carry as well as possible through loud and large space situations. ARRANGEMENTS usually follow the original version. There is an mp3 where you can hear 30 seconds and get a feeling of the originality of the work. There are high spots and low spots, just like any friendship, but it rallies jubilantly in the end.
