This piece has three movements for solo trumpet and accompaniment (of percussion and strings) with colorful sticky melodies and exciting rhythmic patterns to produce a great experience for the listener. The use of timpani represents the traditions of classical music. The use of the drum set represents the American pop music tradition and the Latino’s clave 3-2 rhythmic pattern represents the Hispanic heritage of the composer. Instrumentation: Trumpet in C (Solo Part) Timpani Drum Set Violin 1 Violin 2 Viola Cello Double Bass The piece can be performed with a string quintet or with a string orchestra.

I originally wrote this piece as a piéce d'occasion for the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, to complement the Mozart Concerto for flute, harp and strings. Retaining the note values of the original with exactitude, I have to set C. P. E. Bach's Fantasy-Sonata for piano and violin of 1787 for solo flute, harp and strings. I was my purpose to project the extremely interesting and expressive harmonic material of this composition into a larger instrumental apparatus and thereby to make its future-oriented harmonic structures more manifest and plastic. The strings can be presented in two different forms: either as a string quartet and a string quintet, or as string quartet and tutti strings. As will be seen, I have also attempted to loosen up and set in a concertante manner the sound of the strings in the spirit of early classic chamber music. - Hans Werner Henze.

Classical,Contest,Festival,Historic,Instructional,Romantic Period. 9 pages. Keith Terrett #1012118. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1431642). Transcribed for String Orchestra the second movement of the New World Symphony is introduced by a harmonic progression of chords in the wind instruments. Beckerman interprets these chords as a musical rendition of the narrative formula Once upon a time. Then a solo cor anglais (English horn) plays the famous main theme in D-flat major accompanied by muted strings. Dvořák was said to have changed the theme from clarinet to cor anglais as it reminded him of the voice of Harry Burleigh. The movement's middle section contains a passage in C♯ minor evoking a nostalgic and desolate mood which eventually leads into a funeral march above pizzicato steps in the basses. It is followed by a quasi-scherzo that incorporates this movement's theme as well as the first movement's main and closing themes.
