The work is tonal, opening with a sorrowful song in g minor that turns into a whimsical waltz in G Major. The waltz returns to the sorrowful opening, which cadences but then sets off immediately into a G Major fugue. The fugue takes an unexpected turn during its development, shifting into a lydian mode that then transitions smoothly back into final exposition and conclusion of the fugue. Caprice for Strings is an exciting work for contest or concert, with a Medium-Advanced level of difficulty. Typical performance time is 8:44. Member, ASCAP.

Once again writing for the wonderful Banda di musica has given me a unique chance to release an old and very special melody that has lain neglected and home-less for over 3 decades. The resulting piece is light hearted, fun and in a simple ABA form.There are 2 arrangements;No. 1 – School Arrangement ; Violins 1, 2 and 3, Cellos 1 and 2No. 2 – Standard Arrangement ; Violins 1 and 2, Viola, Cello and Double BassThere are a few violin and cello solos throughout which are to be played by the section leaders. The bass has one part. An optional piano part is also provided. The the ideal distribution is Vln. 1, Vln. 2, Vla. 3, and Cello 4. However the intentionally redundant parts allow for flexible combinations of instruments. If for example, no violas or cellos are available, a violin choir could still cover the parts. The same would hold true for a non-traditional quartet such as 3 violins and 1 cello or any other grouping.
