String Orchestra - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1241723 Composed by George Frideric Handel. Arranged by PJM. Baroque,Children,Christian,Christmas,Classical. Score and Parts. 22 pages. Pamela Moutoussi #837090. Published by Pamela Moutoussi (A0.1241723). This short version of the famous Hallelujah Chorus is adpted for children's orchestra, but is suitable for beginner strings of any age. The 3rd violin and bass parts are suitable for children who have been learning a just couple of terms and the piano part is also easy enough for a child to play after a couple of year's lessons. The optional timps part is intended for a visiting adult, but similarly an older child would have no difficulty. The viola part is slightly harder because players are often later starters (and vioists are the most intelligent players!), but the 3rd violin part can be put into alto on request. All of the work is in 1st postion but there is plenty to challenge the players with counting and dynamics.

String Orchestra - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1494798 Composed by Levi Comstock. Baroque,Chamber,Christmas,Classical,Instructional. 32 pages. Viola Fusion #1071360. Published by Viola Fusion (A0.1494798). Dear orchestra-teaching colleague, If you are teaching a group of students with mixed ability levels, and you want to find a tune they will all love, add this tune to your repertoire! This spicy concerto has a light-hearted, peppy, baroque feel. l wrote it for a group of students that included a couple of advanced players, ten complete beginners who would need to perform for the first time six weeks after getting their instruments, and a core group of early intermediate players. I wanted each musician to enjoy their part, and I wanted it to be a piece the audience would rave about as they took their kids out for post-concert ice cream that evening. It still retains is zest even without the advanced part, and if you want to add a little more heat there is even space for students to write or improvise a cadenza!I hope you enjoy this piece as much as we have:).

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1488074 Composed by Franz Xaver Gruber (music) and Joseph Mohr. Arranged by John R. Daniels. Christian,Christmas,Classical,Holiday,Traditional. 18 pages. John R. Daniels #1064951. Published by John R. Daniels (A0.1488074). This arrangement of Silent Night for String Orchestra stands out as one of the most hauntingly beautiful, with its ethereal sound that culminates in a glorious conclusion. It has very unusual voicing; the music is not based on any chord progression, but rather on independent, interweaving melodic themes. The violas have the melody for a while. And, a couple of times the second violin part is above the soprano part. It is a very contemplative presentation of the carol. This piece is loosely classified as an Advanced Intermediate skill level. The notes aren’t difficult, and it’s relatively slow, but the intervals may be a bit tricky to play in tune.

Dr. Grant Gilman #3511981. Published by Dr. Grant Gilman (A0.799741). Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov Scheherazade - I. The Sea and Sinbad’s Ship Pick-A-Part Arrangement for String Orchestra by Dr. Grant Gilman String Orchestra Parts in This Pick-A-Part Arrangement Violin 1A Violin 1B Violin 1C Violin 2A Violin 2B Violin 2C Viola A Viola B Viola C Cello A Cello B Cello C Bass A Bass B Bass C Harp/Keyboard (optional)About Pick-A-Part Arrangement This arrangement system employs simultaneous, multi-level difficulty parts for each string section. The goal is to accommodate all levels of playing in the preparation and performance of a symphonic masterwork. In this arrangement, there are 3 difficulty levels for each individual string section, labeled A, B, and C, respectively. Each level is a decreasing level of technical and musical difficulty, level A being the highest level of difficulty. The A level is close to, if not exactly the same as, the original string part, plus the integration of wind parts when applicable. B and C follow in a proportional reduction of difficulty level. For this solution to be most effective, some students should be encouraged to play the most challenging parts simultaneously with those playing the simpler parts. This presents the opportunity to participate in a performance that includes most of the original material. The B and C parts cover enough of the surface material while maintaining a modicum of independence from the A part. In other words, the B and C parts are able to hold their own in performance without the A parts. For example, let’s say you have a couple of talented violinists and a few more that are well below their playing level, only two violists that need a great deal of help, a plethora of cellists with a wide range of abilities, and one single bass player that is a beginner. Your distribution of parts may look something like this: Violin 1 - two on Violin 1A, one on Violin 1C, and the rest on Violin 1B Violin 2 - one on Violin 2B, the rest on Violin 2C Viola - both on Viola C Cello - three on Cello A, one on Cello B, and the rest on Cello C Bass - one on Bass C This potential setup will challenge each player at their current level of development while creating the context for a moving experience with a major orchestral work. A Note about the Score and Printing The full score is designed to be printed in portrait orientation on 17x11 tabloid size paper. Even at this size, the score can be confusing to read, especially if you are not covering every difficulty level part. If you would like a custom score showing only the parts you are using, please email me: conductor@grantgilman.com. I will be happy to work with you!www.grantgilman.comwww.americanmusepodcast.com

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.922634 Composed by Johann Strauss Jr. Arranged by Aaron Meier. Romantic Period,World. Score and parts. 1 pages. Aaron Meier #5792359. Published by Aaron Meier (A0.922634). Original by Johann Strauss II Reduction to String Orchestra by Aaron Meier Part: Violin I True to the original work by Strauss, this reduction for string orchestra features the ornaments and mystical writing that defines Strauss' polkas. There are optional percussion parts to be added at the discretion of the ensemble, however even without percussion the ensemble will sound full (the percussion acts as an ornament). Difficulty: Intermediate-advanced - advanced (best-suited for advanced student ensembles) --- Performance Notes: • Approximate length: 3:30 minutes • 1st Violins: In m. 1, trill a half step from a D♠to a D♮ • 2nd Violins:  - At m. 42, divide players by 3, with 2 players playing line A and the remaining player playing line B  - At m. 72-75, emphasize the E♠in the div. • Snare Drum: The buzz roll needs to be quieter than how it is played in the midi recording (*see YouTube link ↓) History: The Olga-Polka itself owed its creation to a Russian royal wedding which took place in St. Petersburg on 28 August 1857. On that day, amid accompanying splendour, the music-loving Grand Duke Michail Nikolaievich (1832-1909), youngest brother of Tsar Alexander II, married Princess Caecilie of Baden (1839-91), daughter of Archduke Leopold of Baden. Johann Strauss, who at that time was giving a summer season of concerts in nearby Pavlovsk, used the opportunity occasioned by the event to enhance his already enviable popularity with the Russian royal family and composed the Caecilien-Polka in honour of the lovely young bride. Indeed, it is clear from a letter which Johann wrote in late July 1857 to Carl Haslinger, his publisher in Vienna, that the new polka had been prepared well in advance of the wedding (the fair copy of the full orchestral score made for the publisher's engraver is dated 9 August) and was enjoying success even before the royal couple's official engagement on 16August 1857. Sometime after performing the Caecilien-Polka in Pavlovsk, Johann despatched the work to the Austrian capital where his brother Josef conducted its Viennese première, together with that of Johann's waltz Telegraphische Depeschen (op. 195, Volume 28), at his own benefit concert in the Volksgartenon Sunday 18 October 1857. The Wiener Allgemeine Theaterzeitung (16.10.1857) remarked that both works have caused a sensation in St. Petersburg and are truly genial Viennese sounds full of verve and melody. Since tradition demanded that the German Princess Caecilie adopt a Russian name - Olga Feodorovna - before her marriage, so Johann's Caecilien-Polka also underwent a change of identity. On 8 December 1857 Carl Haslinger announced the publication of Strauss's Olga-Polka, on the title page of which is the inscription: Dedicated to her Imperial Highness Grand Duchess Olga, née Princess of Baden. It was under this title, too, that Johann himself first conducted the work in Vienna at a concert in the Volksgarten on 1 November 1857, shortly after his return from Russia. Reporting on this event, the Wiener Allgemeine Theaterzeitung (3.11.1857) observed: The 'Olga-Polka' is a most delightful, fragrant musical bouquet, full of fine, gracious rhythms. String Orchestra - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.522247 Composed by Colin Kirkpatrick. Contemporary. Score and parts. 21 pages. Colin Kirkpatrick Publications #4994009. Published by Colin Kirkpatrick Publications (A0.522247). Shetland Sunrise is a movement from Colin Kirkpatrick's suite for elementary string orchestra entitled “Atlantic Highwayâ€. Ideal for end-of-semester concerts or any other school or college concert occasion, these tuneful and attractive pieces are bound to please audience and instrumentalists alike. The work is scored for violins 1 and 2, viola (with an identical but optional part for violin 3 in treble clef), cello, double bass and piano (or digital keyboard). The piano part is an integral part of music and therefore essential. However, it’s not especially difficult and perfectly manageable by the intermediate pianist. All the string parts can be played in first position. Pizzicato is used extensively in the double bass part and in some of the passages for the upper strings. Shetland Sunrise is in G major throughout and the time signature begins in 5/8. This might look a bit daunting to elementary places not used to seeing it but the music is a good deal easier than it appears. Because every 5/8 measure (bar) naturally falls into groups of 3 and 2 beats, the players should be told to count 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, rather than one to five. They will soon pick up the irregular lilting rhythm. There are also a couple of measures of 7/8 in this piece, which should be counted as 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2. The string parts have been produced in fairly large type making them ideal for elementary players. Cues have been added where necessary.

Mark Lansom #3397147. Published by Mark Lansom (A0.759543). The famous Sugar Plum Fairy dance, here arranged for school string orchestra, although of course it could work for a group of any age. The first and second violin parts require chromatic movement in first position and third violin part is in hand shape no. 1 for newer players. Viola part is probably the most difficult which fitted the players it was originally written for. Cello part is straightforward and there are a couple of moments for double bass. Score and set of parts.

Published by Bud Caputo (A0.826720). Directors should consider this arrangement in combination with Caputo’s arrangement of Helena Polka as a nice change of pace creating a Borodin medley. Of its four movements, the third movement Notturno, is the most famous movement of Borodin’s 1881, String Quartet No. 2 in D major. . Some scholars suggest that It was dedicated to his wife Ekaterina Protopova as a 20th anniversary gift and that it has a program evoking the couple's first meeting in Heidelberg. The solo cello part in the original is distributed to other voices to maintain student interest. Bowings have been carefully edited by Dr. Priscilla Howard creating a beautiful and lyrical selection.

Original by Johann Strauss II Reduction to String Orchestra by Aaron Meier Part: Viola True to the original work by Strauss, this reduction for string orchestra features the ornaments and mystical writing that defines Strauss' polkas. String Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.596599 Composed by Juan MarÃa Solare. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 13 pages. Juan Maria Solare #6020971. Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.596599). Mercy is an obsessively expressive Adagio (so to say, an answer to Samuel Barber's Adagio) with a homophonic texture, like a four part chorale. Rhythmically, this piece offers no problems. While the part of the first violin requires more experienced players, all others are relatively easy to play. Most groups would be able to master this piece after only a couple of rehearsals. Some would say that mercy is a virtue, others that it is a weakness. Do not seek in this piece a one-to-one musical transcription of merciful feelings, but rather concentrate on the smoothness and tender sound quality associated with it. Rather than pity, mercy is about empathy, togetherness and support - this attitude can also show while performing music. Approximate duration: 3 minutes 15 seconds. Mercy was composed in 2013 and is dedicated to the flutist Cecilia Piehl Pierce.

String Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.933521 Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven, Cees Nieuwenhuizen. Arranged by Upstream Music. Classical. Score and parts. 18 pages. Upstream Music #6353295. Published by Upstream Music (A0.933521). Both the Adagio molto (Hess 40) and the unfinished, originally intended Fugue date from November, 1817. It was the publisher Tobias Haslinger who requested a prelude and fugue for a publication in line with works published earlier. Beethoven completed the prelude but with the fugue he stopped after merely four bars of music. The short original fugue theme was later inserted into the second part (Molto vivace) of the Ninth Symphony (Opus 125).The prelude (Beethoven did not give any time indication) starts with 37 bars of solemn music followed by 12 bars Allegro. In terms of form, rhythm, and key, this material shows great similarity to the Molto vivace from Opus 125 referred to above. The present version has been arranged for a string orchestra instead of for a string quintet, thus being the first publication which enables it to be performed in its entirety. In order to balance the foundation, I opted for introducing a contrabass part, which largely follows the cello part composed by Beethoven. As regards the phrasing, dynamics, and rests as well as the time indication, this publication follows those in Willy Hess’ publication. So the prescribed time ‘Adagio molto’ is not that of Beethoven himself. The arguments to link the Maestoso to the Fugue in D major (Opus 137) published later are multiple. In the first place, the Fugue also dates from 1817. Secondly, the key is the same as is the number of instruments for a string quintet with two separate alto parts. Not only does the original fugue theme start at the tone a, but the timing too is the same, that is 3/8. So it seems reasonable to assume that Beethoven intended both works as a couple. The abnormal rhythmics of the bars 38 up to and including 49 is remarkable. I have preserved it because the part has been authentically composed by Beethoven, while it did not seem logical to me to have it immediately followed by the Fugue completed by myself. I have composed a number of bars of music based on the beginning of the prelude by way of a smooth transition. In the Fugue, I closely adhere to Beethoven, at the same time introducing a contrabass part here as well, so as to support the cello. At a number of places in the score, Beethoven recorded neither music nor rests. This refers to the bars 5 (second viola and cello), 11, 12, 25 and 26 (first and second violins), 39 to 41 (all parts), 43 and 44 (all parts except the first violin), 45 (first viola) and finally 45 and 46 (second violin). As in Willy Hess’ publication, I have just inserted rests here.
