THE SCORE AND INSTRUMENTAL PARTS ARE ALL AVAILABLE SEPARATELY. Gordon was a good violinist. He played in the CBSO where he also doubled as their solo alto saxophone player when required. He was a very popular violin teacher. He wrote pieces for his pupils from beginners to advanced much of which can be found on the Piper Publications web site.

The Oak Ridge Boys, The Statler Brothers, Vince Gill, Willie Nelson, Alan Jackson, George Beverly Shea and John Prine on the 2007 CD Standard Songs for Average People with Mac Wiseman. British television dramatist Dennis Potter used the gospel song prominently in several of his plays, most notably Pennies from Heaven (1978); and the song also played a major part in Gridlock (2007), an episode of the long-running sci-fi drama series Doctor Who. These 2 Minuets and Air come from a collection of music called Minuets, etc., etc. for the Violin, Mandolin, German-Flute and Harpsichord (1770) by the British abolitionist, writer, shopkeeper, and composer Ignatius Sancho (1729-1780). They are arranged so that they can be performed as a work for String Orchestra or String Quartet. This is possible because the Cello and Bass parts are doubled. The Violin 3 part is optional and can serve two purposes: (1) To add more instruments to the viola section, if your orchestra has a small number of violists, to balance the parts in the ensemble, and (2) to provide more options for performing these pieces as a String Quartet. [This edition is based on this source]A copy of the parts, conserved in the Landesbibliothek Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Günther Uecker [de] in Schwerin.Another copy of the parts conserved in Cividale del Friuli.The Grosso Mogul title appears on the Schwerin manuscript, which was written before 1717. According to Michael Talbot, the name of the concerto can possibly be linked to Domenico Lalli’s Il gran Mogol opera libretto, a setting of which had been presented in Naples in 1713. Later settings of this libretto include Giovanni Porta’s, staged in Venice in 1717, and Vivaldi’s RV 697 (1730).The Schwerin and Cividale del Friuli copies of the concerto contain two variants of extended cadenzas for unaccompanied violin, in the first and last movements of the concerto. The autograph version indicates where such cadenzas can be inserted in these movements, but does not contain the cadenzas. A manuscript with the written-out cadenzas must have been circulating before c. 1713–1714 when Bach transcribed such version for solo organ (BWV 594).An earlier version of the concerto, RV 208a, was probably composed by c. 1712–1713. Antonio Lucio Vivaldi 4 March 1678 – 28 July 1741) was an Italian Baroque musical composer, virtuoso violinist, teacher, and priest. Born in Venice, the capital of the Venetian Republic, he is regarded as one of the greatest Baroque composers, and his influence during his lifetime was widespread across Europe. He composed many instrumental concertos, for the violin and a variety of other instruments, as well as sacred choral works and more than forty operas. His best-known work is a series of violin concertos known as the Four Seasons. Many of his compositions were written for the all-female music ensemble of the Ospedale della Pietà , a home for abandoned children. Vivaldi had worked there as a Catholic priest for 1 1/2 years and was employed there from 1703 to 1715 and from 1723 to 1740. Vivaldi also had some success with expensive stagings of his operas in Venice, Mantua and Vienna. After meeting the Emperor Charles VI, Vivaldi moved to Vienna, hoping for royal support. It was printed in the Erfurt Enchiridion of 1524.Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland continues to be used in modern settings. It appears in liturgically oriented Christian hymnals, for example the Lutheran Book of Worship, and as the cantus firmus for organ compositions.The song was the prominent hymn for the first Sunday of Advent for centuries.
