Han-Ki Kim #3472125. Published by Han-Ki Kim (A0.511508). Arirang String Orchestra Op.154  “Arirang†is a representative folk song of Korea and a famous song widely known around the world. This concerto was composed to give value as an artistic literature to such a familiar theme. In this concerto “Arirangâ€, I want both the performers and the audience to feel “musical sympathyâ€. It was commissioned to commemorate the 60th anniversary of I Musici's founding and was dedicated to them. Following the short and fast introduction in 3/4 time, it is connected in the form of 5 variations in 6/8 time. Each variation expresses a different musical atmosphere, performance speed, or change in composition. In general, the main melody is mainly played by the first violin, but as far as the main melody is concerned, in this music, high-pitched instruments and low-pitched instruments intersect and cycle in equal positions, not in a melodicline relationship. After the fourth variation, a virtuosic solo of the movement alone is connected, and after the finale with a broad and majestic atmosphere, it ends with a short and lively coda with the same character as the beginning. Shown Bowing sign and Fingering(Vn,Va part) will be very helpful to player. Optional Violin 3(Instead of Viola part)  part included.

This arrangement is an abridged version of the original, at 5m30s long. All of Emma's arrangements find creative and artistic ways to re-present original pieces in a way that suits the new instruments and ensemble whilst maintaining the integrity of the original piece. Her aim is to go far beyond a simple copying of the melody and harmony, but to create an arrangement that sounds as if the piece was always meant for these new instruments. Emma Butterworth is a composer for film and TV and also a successful Suzuki cello teacher. She has an intimate knowledge of how to write for strings, and has written and arranged a vast number of pieces for cellos and strings especially. With music by Jerome Kern and a book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, the show deals with themes of racism, alcoholism, and spousal desertion at a time when social ills were not even a remote part of the typical Broadway fare. Kern's score was well received and contains many familiar songs like Ol' Man River. Make Believe, and Why do I love you?. But after Ol' Man River, It is probably the charming and poignant Bill that is most familiar to modern audiences. This arrangement gives the melody to a solo Alto Saxophone with a string accompaniment that preserves the early 20th-century feel of the original. It will work great on a pops concert, or as a lighter encore to a more serious saxophone concerto.

I have always found music in the Dorian mode to be very pleasing, even before I knew what it was; it has uniquely attractive qualities and shows up in diverse music traditions from all around the world. Dorian can also be a name for a person. In this composition, I have imagined Dorian to be the protagonist on a hero’s journey. The music creates a narrative of our main character Dorian growing up, going on a grand adventure, and finally returning home, enriched by so many experiences.
