My Mother had some sad news to give me. Dad was very ill. My whole life flashed before me. My parents were always 200% supportive of all my artistic endeavors. None of my success would have been possible but for my Dad and Mom. My memories of my Dad and my Mom flooded my mind like a deluge. When I heard the news about how gravely ill he was I thought to myself that so often we give thanks, honor, or show our love when it is too late. Who wants to be that person? I was finally in the unique position to show my gratitude and love to my parents in the most special way that I could - through music from my heart and soul. I got the courage to look deeply within and then I began to write what was to become the first and second songs, respectively Tears from My Eyes: Remember Your Feelings and Tears from My Eyes: Reflection and Contemplation on my Tears from My Eyes: Songs from my Soul album.You will now be able to do just the same for your loved ones with this new music. Your intermediate level to advanced students and even professional musicians should find this to be a welcomed piece to learn and master. It looks deceptively simple but the learning and challenge comes from two smaller sub-ensembles playing together in their own collective units legato con moto while playing together as a whole music ensemble Everyone will enjoy and bathe in the beautiful harmonies that will resonate when the entire music ensemble begins to listen to each while playing together as a group. Your musicians will hone their skills in playing together with just the right balance that this song requires. Your musicians will also hone their skills for subdividing and maintaining an inner beat that is in sync with your conducting because there is no percussion and the notes are freely flowing on and off the down beat yet not sounding heavily syncopated when performed. When will you know when you have achieved the right balance and flow of the music? You will know when, because you will hear it and feel it when it comes into place. But I can help you with all of this with what I have to offer you today. I share with you now the final and 5th movement to Tears from my Eyes - Onward and Upward (for String Orchestra). It is a dance of unbridled joy to celebrate a rich harvest of nature's bounty. In 2013, I transcribed it from my private archive of old dusty audio tapes no one had ever heard, and with the CarsonValley Sinfonia in mind, revised it for string orchestra without winds.1995 was a low period in my life. The pressure from my job in the technology industry was relentless, and personal relationships at that time sometimes brought emotional pain instead of solace and comfort. Grasping for any ray of hope to illuminate the gloom, I turned back to my original love: music.Immersing myself deeply in the process of music creation, I rediscovered not only a talent for composition, but even more importantly tapped into the creative source of uplift, joy, and energy, the source of all gifts, that is available to every sincere person. During those years, composing music was a vital lifeline. Like the powerful beam of the rescuer's flashlight guiding you toward the daylight when you are emerging from a dark cave. Like a new baby being born. Now a great many years later, life now brimming with music and friends, and having put old sorrows far behind me, music from that time of troubles still fills me with the same joy as when I composed it, and I hope it uplifts you.Harvest Dance is dedicated to my friend, composer John O'Neill, with profound appreciation for his encouragement, as well as helping me learn the practicalities of arranging for a string orchestra.

Composed in 1999, the music celebrates the various stages of an American life at the waking of the 21st century. Constructed in four movements and representing four stages of life, birth, adolescence, maturity and old age, the music also pays homage to Shakespeare's Seasons Of Man His acts being seven ages, incorporated throughout the work.Spring introduces the ideas of birth and infancy. After the principal theme has been stated, there is a violin cadenza encountering all twelve major keys and a 13/8 time signature representing the ancient golden ratio. These elements recall birth with all the possibilities a new life offers. Ending the movement, the principal theme is repeated with more complexity... as if posing life's questions.Summer represents the excitement and bravado of youthful adolescence and young adulthood. For the style of this movement I use a happy-go-lucky Blues voice which melds into Swing. Their part doubles the violin/viola parts in most places, but there’s a part near the middle where their part varies to add complexity to the counterpoint. 6.    The foundational violin, viola, cello, bass, guitar, and trumpet parts (normal sheet music) are in unison. They are a mixture of melody/harmonic writing and the bass parts. These parts should be played alongside 2 and 3 listed above. Sarah McLellan #1016845. Published by Sarah McLellan (A0.1436705). We're sure that this new arrangement of the famous New Zealand Sea Shanty will be enjoyed by string players of all levels. As with all Pick n' Mix arrangements, there are multiple part options to suit all playing levels- whether advanced players, complete beginners and all those in-between. The melodic interest of the Verses is passed between instrument sections and develops musically throughout the arrangement, whilst the catchy, repeated Chorus section provides a great hook for everyone to join together throughout the piece. The concept of all Pick 'n' Mix Strings arrangements is that you just choose the parts which are most suited to your players. We are absolutely NOT suggesting that you try to cover every single possible part! If you don't have any players on the more advanced parts, this doesn't matter at all. Alternatively, experienced ensembles might want all players on advanced parts. You may well use a mixture of some advanced parts and other simpler parts- or you could even have a very early beginner ensemble just using the parts for open strings and first fingers, with a teacher playing the main tune on piano for instance. In addition to the regular score and parts, there are also optional versions of each part with the: STRING FINGERING written in; LETTER NAMES written in; an EXTENSION SCORE; a REDUCED SCORE; an optional PIANO ACCOMPANIMENT and an optional PIANO REDUCTION. There are tried and tested suggested BOWINGS included in all string parts. However, should any music directors wish to use alternative bowings to those printed, we can happily provide versions of the score and parts without bowing on request. There are also Play Along videos available on YouTube @PicknMixStrings for all the Open String parts, in case these are helpful for practising along with!

This piece begins like a dramatic symphony which will seem familiar to some students, but then it kicks into a minor Celtic reel (Celtic dance in common time). First violins will enjoy the fast fiddling melody and string crossings, while the other sections enjoy syncopated rhythmic accompaniment. The reel shifts into an old time (a style of bluegrass) melody and includes the cello and bass sections playing the melody. A chorale-like section gives students a break from fiddling and a chance to employ delicate legato playing. It concludes with the reel melody in the upper strings, while the lower strings carry a heavy quarter note drive. Waltz Moderato In G Major is a very easy composition for elementary string students. This piece contains very simple rhythms using half notes, dotted half notes and quarter notes and will show that music does not have to be difficult to sound good and be enjoyable. This piece also presents the opportunity to teach your students about D.S. al Coda. You will find this composition keeps all instruments in 1st position and utilizes three part harmony that benefits ensembles lacking adequate instrumentation. Viola and 2nd violin are doubled as are cello and contrabass. This is a very playable and full sounding composition. Complete with full score and all parts. An arrangement of Little Brown Jug for String Orchestra & Drum Kit.Little Brown Jug is a song written in 1869 by Joseph Winner, originally published credited to Eastburn (Winner’s middle name).It was originally a drinking song. It remained well known as a folk song into the early 20th century. Like many songs which make reference to alcohol, it enjoyed new popularity during the Prohibition era. In 1939, bandleader Glenn Miller recorded and broadcast his swing instrumental arrangement of the tune with great success, and the number became one of the best known orchestrations of the American Big Band era His version did not have the lyrics.In 1939, Glenn Miller and His Orchestra released a hit version of the song on RCA Bluebird, as an A side 78 single, B-10286-A, in a new arrangement by Bill Finegan backed with Pavanne. The recording was an early chart hit for Glenn Miller. REMEMBER ALWAYS is written in loving memory of Catherine C. Hettle (Mum) and is my humble tribute to a most wonderful person and mother of my best friend Mark . I first met Mum when I was 19 years old while serving in the US Navy and she immediately treated me with such kindness which I never forgot. After losing contact for a number of years I was so glad and fortunate that I was able to once again be a small part of her life. You will be dearly missed Mum by so many. There are no good-byes because loved ones will always live in our hearts. REMEMBER ALWAYS is written for intermediate students and includes full score and parts for Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, String Bass and optional Soprano and Baritone vocals. The vocal parts are vocalised without the use of words such as in the final movement of The Planets by Holst. As an example the vowel ‘ah‘ could be used but the choice will be the director’s. Perform this work with only one to a part or use multiples for a fuller sound. It can also be performed without the vocals.
