When I heard the news about how gravely ill he was I thought to myself that so often we give thanks, honor, or show our love when it is too late. Who wants to be that person? I was finally in the unique position to show my gratitude and love to my parents in the most special way that I could - through music from my heart and soul. I got the courage to look deeply within and then I began to write what was to become the first and second songs, respectively Tears from My Eyes: Remember Your Feelings and Tears from My Eyes: Reflection and Contemplation on my Tears from My Eyes: Songs from my Soul album.You will now be able to do just the same for your loved ones with this new music. Your intermediate level to advanced students and even professional musicians should find this to be a welcomed piece to learn and master. It looks deceptively simple but the learning and challenge comes from two smaller sub-ensembles playing together in their own collective units legato con moto while playing together as a whole music ensemble Everyone will enjoy and bathe in the beautiful harmonies that will resonate when the entire music ensemble begins to listen to each while playing together as a group. Your musicians will hone their skills in playing together with just the right balance that this song requires. Your musicians will also hone their skills for subdividing and maintaining an inner beat that is in sync with your conducting because there is no percussion and the notes are freely flowing on and off the down beat yet not sounding heavily syncopated when performed. When will you know when you have achieved the right balance and flow of the music? You will know when, because you will hear it and feel it when it comes into place. But I can help you with all of this with what I have to offer you today. I share with you now the final and 5th movement to Tears from my Eyes - Onward and Upward (for String Orchestra). This particular was created and produced after the Songs from My Soul album was sent for distribution. So, this song has yet to be officially released. All five movements will be released as an album Mourning in the Rain. This 5th movement Onward and Upward has a decisive emotional resolution and conviction in its pathos. The nostalgic strains of this composition bring to mind an old-time church service in that little white chapel in the valley. There's a sentimentality here that touches the soul and brings about a longing for all that was good and peaceful in America's past, as well as hope for our future. The uncomplicated yet graceful strains of the melody are sure to linger in the hearts of both your musicians and your audience. ALMOST HOME is an easy to play composition written with the young musician in mind and is arranged with all instruments in First Position. It will take minimum rehearsal time to prepare and will certainly bring a pleasurable smile to all faces in the audience. The String Bass plays pizzicato throughout while the rest of the ensemble utilizes arco to bring about a soothing and dreamy feeling. REMEMBER ALWAYS is written in loving memory of Catherine C. Hettle (Mum) and is my humble tribute to a most wonderful person and mother of my best friend Mark . I first met Mum when I was 19 years old while serving in the US Navy and she immediately treated me with such kindness which I never forgot. After losing contact for a number of years I was so glad and fortunate that I was able to once again be a small part of her life. You will be dearly missed Mum by so many. There are no good-byes because loved ones will always live in our hearts. REMEMBER ALWAYS is written for intermediate students and includes full score and parts for Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, String Bass and optional Soprano and Baritone vocals. The vocal parts are vocalised without the use of words such as in the final movement of The Planets by Holst. As an example the vowel ‘ah‘ could be used but the choice will be the director’s. Perform this work with only one to a part or use multiples for a fuller sound. It can also be performed without the vocals. My effort to capture this can be seen in the contrast between the bright, dramatic dynamic changes (from fff to ppp) and the humble, nimble pizzicato passages, making for a captivating take on Eilish's masterpiece. I am careful to not allow one instrument to tyrannize the vocals. The resonance of the acoustic guitar in the original is emulated by a synced pizz.-and-arco passage at the end. Playing direction informs the interpreter to the emotional direction of the piece.
