Jim Jones of Botany Bay (6/8 Adagio in 6) is a traditional Australian folk ballad. The narrator, Jim Jones, is arrested, tried, and sentenced to transportation. En route, his ship is attacked by pirates, but the crew holds them off. Arriving in Australia, Jones vows to escape, join the bushrangers, and get revenge.​3. The Drovers Dream (6/8 Brightly in 2)One night when traveling sheep, my companions lay asleep There was not a star illuminate the sky. I was dreaming I suppose, for my eyes were partly closed. When a very strange procession passed me by. First there came a kangaroo with a swag of blankets blue. And the dingo ran beside him as his mate. They were traveling mighty fast but they shouted as they passed. We'll have to jog along, it's getting late.​This arrangement is for String Orchestra with plenty of interest for all sections. There are also Optional Percussion parts - Timpani, Drum Set, Glockenspiel, and Xylophone. There is a Violin 3 part which is a substitute for the Viola Part.There are also versions for Full Orchestra, Concert Band and Brass Band at this website.​The MP3 was recorded with NotePerformer 3.​Grade = 3 Duration = 5:30 mins.

I chose to arrange this version of the tune for String Ensemble because of its haunting nature. The arrangement is for Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3 (sub for Viola), Viola, Cello and Double Bass. If you use this arrangement, please let me know how it goes! The same tune is also used in my Australian Folksong Medley No. 4 for Orchestra, Concert Band and Brass Band…Can be performed by a String Quartet, Quintet or bigger group as well. Published by BJE Music (A0.750847). This is a beautiful traditional Australian Folksong which tells the story of banishment of the singer from their native Erin. The tune probably has Irish origins. This quartet version has been arranged for strings in the key of D-major. There is also an optional Violin 3 part - a sub for the Viola Part. I've arranged it for Clarinet Quartet, Flute Quartet and used this tune in my Australian Folksong Medley No. 3 for Concert Band. He is most well known for his performance career as a classical crossover and popular music artist with 11 CD recordings, numerous awards and accolades, and performances with the likes of Luciano Pavorotti, Julio Iglesias, and Joan Baez. Before this, he was a founding member of the Australian Chamber Orchestra, as well as playing with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra. When he is not spending time with his wife of 46 years, his three middle-aged children, and his two grandchildren, he spends his time and energy teaching, writing, arranging, and performing. Vivaldi's Concerto RV 93 was originally written for lute or guitar solo plus strings and basso continuo. Here, the 1st movement of the concerto has been arranged for an intermediate-level student string orchestra without continuo or piano accompaniment. To this end, the work has been simplified: the original key of D major has been changed to C major; some rhythms have been simplified, including doubling all note values and changing the time signature to 2/2; some registers have been changed in order to keep parts in 1st position; and extensive dynamics and articulations have been added to assist students with musical interpretation according to Baroque music conventions. That said, some crescendos have been added for effect. It is anticipated that the one repeat will be done, as is traditional. The upper strings are expected to be able to play low 2nd and 4th fingers, and the cellos have both backward and forward extensions but only leave 1st position in two short identical passages.
