String Orchestra - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.533701 Composed by Carson Cooman. Baroque,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 77 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #3038897. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533701). Concerto for Portatif Organ and Strings (2006) was commissioned by the Harvard Baroque Chamber Orchestra and its director, Robert Mealy. The work is dedicated to organist Nancy Granert, for whom the solo part was written. The work was commissioned in celebration of the von Clemm Chamber Organ at The Memorial Church, Harvard University, built in 2006 by Klop Organ Builders. As with many of my works, relationships between old and new musical concepts are explored. In this piece, musical aspects of the Baroque organ concerto tradition (and Baroque style string playing) co-exist with more contemporary musical elements. In particular, the directness of expression found in many Baroque concertante works is present throughout. Musical material is shared between the movements in a motivic fashion. The title of the first movement, Bricolage, is defined as “something made or put together using whatever materials happen to be available.†Thus, the musical material for the movement is of varying characters; these elements are assembled together in ways that allow them to comment on and inform each other. Some of these musical elements include: a traditional “overture†texture, a Basse de Trompette texture (with an organ reed stop in the left hand) common in French Baroque organ music, and the French keyboard toccata style. The second movement, Elegia, is dark and searching in tone. It begins with a rageful roar before quieting down to introduce its basic musical material – a simple “lament†theme in a folk-inflected style. This material is used for further explorations, building to passionate climaxes. Finally, the opening music returns, but this time with a whisper. The movement winds down to a sad conclusion. After the soul-searching of the second movement, the third movement, Rondeau, is sprightly and energetic. The basic material is a set of Baroque and Classical-style figurations (with a few American gospel inflections thrown in), firmly grounded in G major. After minor diversions, the original material continues to return and ends the work with unfettered joy.

String Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.532834 Composed by Therese Brenet. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 39 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #45419. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.532834). Thérèse Brenet was attracted to the Chinese poems in La Flûte de Jade by Franz Toussaint. She chose seven of these poems in a contrasting style and assembled them into a single work, striving to create an unusual orchestration which reflects this delicate, fantastic and sensual qualities of these poems. Her orchestration uses a small group of strings which are re-enforced by a harpsichord, a vibraphone, a harp and percussion, often superimposed, which serve to underline the delicate character of the poems. IN addition, she uses all styles of vocal production, from whispered passages to spoken words or screams, and from singing normally to sprechgesang. The work finishes serenely with a long melody in flute upon which the baritone repeats the last phrases of the poem in a long perdendosi. The voice and the flute slowly die away without there being a definite ending to the work, which allow the listener to imagine that the work continues, as in a waking dream. One could imagine hearing the echo of the words whispered by the baritone and the arien and luminous sounds of the flute which has lulled us as a soloist throughout the seven poems of the cycle. The orchestration is for 4 percussion, harp, harpsichord, piano and strings (44221). The piece generally lasts approximately fourteen minutes. The composer has intentionally broken with tradition by using instrumental notation for the vovcal part. This notations gives, in her view, a greater ease of reading when the voice exchanges with the flute. This version for flute, voice and piano is identical, as much as is possible, with the orchestral version, excpet for short segments in the 5th and 7th poems. These differences only affect the flute and piano parts and do not affect the vocal part. The Baritone may therefore use this score for performances with orchestra. The Flutist should use the part included in the orchestral parts for performances with orchestra. This work was first performed at the Villa Medicis during Thérèse Brenet time spend there during her Prix de Rome voyage. It was recorded in 2014 with Kurt Ollmann Baritone, Christel Rayneau, flute and the National Polish Radio Orchestra under the direction of Paul Wehage. The orchestral materials are on rental from the publisher.

In 1986, the Tennessee Dance Theater commissioned the Suite to be performed at Nashville’s Summer Lights Festival. A few years later Edgar Meyer provided the beautiful string orchestra arrangement that is contained in this score. The individual tunes are in various folk styles appearing in a chronological order O’Connor says, not only represents the evolution of American folk music, but also mirrors his own family’s migration from Ireland and Holland to America. It traces the family’s route through the thirteen colonies initially, and then eventually West during WWI nearly 300 hundred years later. O’Connor wrote the pieces in a manner and style he felt his family could have heard along the way. The Suite begins with Irish music, perhaps similar to the music O’Connor’s family brought with them. Then in a thoughtful progression, he reveals music they must have encountered living in early America. Strings & Threads musically describes how folk music styles hundreds of years apart are interconnected – possessing a common thread – from an Irish reel to jazz. The music is suited for advanced and intermediate levels but portions of the piece can be appropriate for beginners. String Orchestra - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.998356 Composed by Aaron Fonzi. Children,Contemporary,Rock,Standards. Score and parts. 27 pages. Aaron Fonzi #3367893. Published by Aaron Fonzi (A0.998356). This piece tells the epic story of Hades' abduction of his niece, Persephone. According to the legend, Hades came up through a crack in the ground and snatched the girl while she was playing. In the Underworld, he tried to seduce her in a variety of ways, but to no avail. Finally, Hades is said to have tricked her into staying by offering her a tempting pomegranate. As Persephone ate 6 seeds, she was to stay in the Underworld for six months each year. It is said that while Persphone is in the Underworld, the plants wither and die, and when she comes back to the surface she brings rebirth to growing things. This piece begins with playful pizzicato lines that build upon each other. These represent Persphone at play, but forebodes the dark forces that are encircling her. When the orchestra goes to arco, Persphone is being dragged into the Underworld. A mournful violin solo signifies her arrival, but this mournful theme is quickly replace by the devious seductions of Hades in the form of a humorous waltz. Finally, Hades offers the pomegranate to Persephone and she eats 6 seeds (represented by the six beats of the B major chord in measures 76 and 77). The main theme then takes over once again, modulating to F# minor to represent Hades' victory. With relentless energy, catchy ostinati and opportunities to work on shifting, pizzicato and arco throughout, this piece will not dissapoint for audiences and students alike. A FEW NOTES: 1. I'd recommend rehearsing the rhythms of recurring ostinati together- first pizzicato then arco. You may get creative and incorporate scales with these rhythms. However you do it, it'll be important that each ostinato is played with precision and confidence. 2. Have fun with the waltz section! It's meant to portray the strange, whimsical nature of Hades' attempts to woo Persephone, so the awkwardness in delivery is encouraged! 3. All ritardandos should be exaggerated for the sake of drama. 4. Encourage your drumset player to explore different ways of accompanying the orchestra- the drumset part is a blueprint, not definitive instructions. 5. Be sure to practice shifting into 2nd position for the modulation. I hope you and your students have a great time putting this epic piece together! I had a ton of fun writing it! ~Aaron Fonzi

Regis Bookshar #6537751. Published by Regis Bookshar (A0.813844). Largo (from Symphony No. 9 in E minor) (From the New World) (Db) (String Orchestra) - Intermediate - Digital Download. This marvelous arrangement of the Largo, based on the second movement of Antonin Dvorak's Symphony No. 9 in E minor, would be a fabulous addition to any music library and could be performed for concerts, recitals and church services, especially Funerals, but would be appropriate any time during the church year. This arrangement is suitable for high school and college students but professional musicians would also enjoy playing this selection. Included are a score and a complete set of parts (23 pages). This selection is one of the many arrangements from the The Regis Bookshar Trumpet Ensemble's extensive music library which are being made available for the first time.Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95 (subtitled From the New World and popularly know as the New World Symphony), was composed by Antonin Dvorak in 1893 while he was the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America from 1892 to 1895. It premiered at Carnegie Hall in New York City on December 16, 1893 and has been described as one of the most popular of all symphonies. The second movement of the symphony, upon which this arrangement is based, is marked Largo, and begins with a harmonic progression of chords which is then followed by a solo instrument playing the famous main theme.Dvorak was interested in Native American music and the African-American spirituals he heard in North America. While director of the National Conservatory he encountered an African-American student, Harry T. Burleigh, who sang traditional spirituals to him. Burleigh, later a composer himself, said that Dvorak had absorbed their spirit before writing his own melodies. Dvorak stated:    I am convinced that the future music of this country must be founded on what are called Negro melodies. These can be the foundation of a serious and original school of composition to be developed in the United States. These beautiful and varied themes are the product of the soil. They are folk songs of America and your composers must turn to them.He further explained how Native American music influenced his symphony:  I have not actually used any of these (Native American) melodies. I have simply written original themes embodying the peculiarities of the Indian music, and, using these themes as subjects, have developed them with all the resources of modern rhythms, counterpoint, and orchestral colour. In 1893, a newspaper interview quoted Dvorak as saying, I found that the music of the negroes and of the Indians was practically identical, and that the music of the two races bore a remarkable similarity to the music of Scotland. Most historians agree that Dvorak is referring to the pentatonic scale, which is typical of each of these musical traditions.Dvorak was influenced not only by music he heard, but also by what he had seen, in America. He wrote that he would not have composed his American pieces as he had if he had not seen America. It has been said that Dvorak was inspired by the wide open spaces of America, such as the prairies he may have seen on his trip to Iowa in the summer of 1893. Notices about several performances of the symphony include the phrase wide open spaces about what inspired the symphony and/or about the feelings it conveys to listeners. The theme from the Largo was adapted into the spiritual Goin' Home (often mistakenly considered a folk song or traditional spiritual) by Dvorak's pupil, William Arms Fisher, who wrote the lyrics in 1922. Regis Bookshar thought it would be wonderful if other instrumentalists could have the opportunity to play this beautiful melody, so, he has created this version for a String Orchestra. Parts included with the purchase are a 1st Violin, a 2nd Violin, a 3rd Violin, a 1st Viola, a 2nd Viola, a 1st Violon.

Students also develop some of the many skills involved in instrumental playing faster than other skills. The Mixed Abilities School Ensemble Series for Easy String Orchestra has the flexibility to allow pupils of different standards to play together in one ensemble (up to five parts). Each piece has a total of 5 different parts which are fully interchangeable between violins, violas and cellos (double basses can double the cello parts). So whether you have 15 violins and a viola, or 3 violins, or 4 cellos or whatever, the pieces will still work well together. All parts are provided for all instruments.Part 5 uses long notes on open strings. The other parts gradually increase in difficulty up to Part 1, which uses first and second positions. The teacher should select appropriate parts for the players in the group.I GOT THE BLUES is the second piece in this series, and uses typical Blues characteristics such as syncopation and swung quavers. It also includes a section in which any player can improvise; suggested notes to use in the solo are provided along with backing figures. Please listen to the mp3 file, which is an electronic example of the piece being played with 4 violin parts and a cello on Part 5.The purchaser of this product may print as many copies of the parts as required in order for the piece to work successfully with the ensemble. ATON is a stage play written by Manfred Strolz and Otmar Rützler which represents Egypt in the time of the Pharoahs but seen through the eyes of modern theatre directors and actors. The modern scenes are spoken but the Egyptian scenes require music, so Manfred and Otmar asked me to write the music for these. The music is composed for various forces as the play progresses, from the full orchestra (woodwind, strings, harp, piano, timpani) and choir down to more intimate moments with single voice or duets, flute and classical guitar or with single voice and bassoon. For each section the pdf file contains score and parts and the sound sample is an electronic preview. As I write 16 sections have been composed, but more are to come - please just search for Aton in due course for the full picture. Composed in 1999, the music celebrates the various stages of an American life at the waking of the 21st century. Constructed in four movements and representing four stages of life, birth, adolescence, maturity and old age, the music also pays homage to Shakespeare's Seasons Of Man His acts being seven ages, incorporated throughout the work.Spring introduces the ideas of birth and infancy. After the principal theme has been stated, there is a violin cadenza encountering all twelve major keys and a 13/8 time signature representing the ancient golden ratio. These elements recall birth with all the possibilities a new life offers. Ending the movement, the principal theme is repeated with more complexity... as if posing life's questions.Summer represents the excitement and bravado of youthful adolescence and young adulthood. For the style of this movement I use a happy-go-lucky Blues voice which melds into Swing. I identify swing rhythm in all of 20th century American music culture as a common thread that runs through Ragtime through Rock and Roll on to Rap. Swing means testing the waters and pushing the envelope for lovers and soldiers.Fall is the slow movement symbolizing the wisdom of maturity. It is a peaceful theme with nostalgic strokes. It is a time for sincere reflection and enjoying ones accomplishments in life.Winter embodies the complexities and knowledge of an older person and that of a dying person. The movement begins with the principal them from Spring, but with a dissonance that emanates from a lifetime full of emotions and responsibilities. In the middle of the movement is a transition to an old world. I use my personal ancestry from Ireland as a foundation from which to rediscover one's lineage and explore the meaning and value of a cultural legacy. The exploration evolves into a four- and five-part fugue with a reel, jig, air, countered bass and the motif from the principal theme. All these elements, dances and melodies appear simultaneously and converge to form a unique insight to life's consequences from a historical perspective. Following the fugue, the principal theme finds its way back in. It sounds much as it did at birth. In the end, the solo violin cadenza carries the last earthly breaths before the violin and orchestra once again join in harmony to focus on a new life being transformed somewhere else. The American Seasons (1st violins part – violin and string orchestra) MO148D1st Violins Part (score and parts available)Music by Mark O’Connor38 pages - 38:00 minutes in length The American Seasons(Seasons Of An American Life)The American Seasons (Seasons Of An American Life) is a concerto for Violin And Chamber Orchestra. Life's four seasons in perpetuity. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533709). I. Chaconne: ...a continuum of dreams...II. CadenzaIII. ToccataConcerto for Bass Saxophone and Strings (1999) was commissioned by basssaxophonist Andreas van Zoelen (with generous support from the Broeker Fund forNew Music) and is dedicated with appreciation and admiration to him. Van Zoelen iscommitted to enhancing the very small existing bass saxophone repertoire throughsupporting the creation and performance of new works. The subtitle of the firstmovement (...a continuum of dreams...) could be seen as a sort of subtitle for theentire work that sets the mood and provides unification for the entire piece. The firstmovement is a slow and ethereal chaconne. The strings and the saxophone interact invarious ways throughout this movement in non-traditional form. There are actuallytwo ground bass themes; one is introduced at the beginning with pizzicato stringsbut soon moves to the background (although it is almost always present). The secondis presented near the end of the work and eventually the two are combined. Theinterval of an augmented fourth (tritone) has special use throughout the movementas a variety of themes and motifs are transformed throughout. The second movementis a cadenza for the unaccompanied saxophone. The third movement is a fast andwild toccata. The saxophone plays almost without rest for the entire movement. Amiddle section recalls the theme of augmented fourths from the first movement.Heavy use is made of pizzicato strings. The saxophone part for this movement ishighly virtuosic, exploring the full possibilities and range of the instrument. This is the score and solo part only. The parts are on rental from the publisher.

Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.533114). The Concertino for alto saxophone and string orchestra was written for and is dedicated to saxophonist Nuno Miguel Silva. The work is in three movements. The first movement, “Introduction and Allegro†begins with an introductory passage which leads to an extended cadenza. The allegro uses a contrasting set of two themes, one of which is syncopated and dancelike, the other which is lyrical and expressive. The Aria which follows is in an ABA lied form with extended passage work for the soloist at the return of the theme. The Rondo-finale is a rollicking scherzo which is presented in a variety of forms, first in the saxophone and then in the violins, after several developmental passages and a final cadenza, returns to end the work with a final flourish. A reduction for alto saxophone is avaialble as a different item. The orchestral parts are available on rentel from the publisher.

Published by Matthew C Weiss (A0.799592). This arrangement by Matthew C. Weiss of Dvorak's timeless classic is in the key of D Major so that violin kids in Suzuki book 3 can be the soloists. The orchestra part is relatively straightforward but is by no means watered down. In fact, the middle section is especially dramatic using tremolos and the viola and cello parts are quite good, though not overly difficult.Even though this arrangement is especially designed to accompany violin soloists, any instrument comfortable in the key of D major can play the solo line. Enjoy!

When will you know when you have achieved the right balance and flow of the music? You will know when, because you will hear it and feel it when it comes into place. But I can help you with all of this with what I have to offer you today. I share with you now the final and 5th movement to Tears from my Eyes - Onward and Upward (for String Orchestra). This particular was created and produced after the Songs from My Soul album was sent for distribution. So, this song has yet to be officially released. String Orchestra - Digital Download SKU: A0.811669 Composed by GORDON DALE 1935 - 2001. 20th Century,Concert,World. Score and parts. 4 pages. Piper Publications #3436777. Published by Piper Publications (A0.811669). Gordon wrote the Hymn Symphony for the Hereford String Orchestra in 1977. They gave the first performance in Hereford and also performed it at Gordon’s memorial service in 2001. The symphony is composed in the Classical style, the themes being mostly well-known hymn tunes. The rest are Dale originals which just sound as if they should be hymn tunes. (People have made thorough searches without success.) There are four movements and the piece lasts about twenty minutes. THE SCORE AND INSTRUMENTAL PARTS ARE ALL AVAILABLE SEPARATELY. Gordon was a good violinist. He played in the CBSO where he also doubled as their solo alto saxophone player when required. He was a very popular violin teacher. He wrote pieces for his pupils from beginners to advanced much of which can be found on the Piper Publications web site.
