Laut Überlieferung ließ er die Beine seines Flügels abmontieren, um die Schwingungen direkt auf den Boden zu übertragen und über den Körper zu spüren. Auch bei Hillers origineller Komposition, die Klangfetzen aus Beethovens Klaviersonaten op.31 bis op.111 fragmentarisch einstreut, wäre eine Ausführung mit einem Flügel mit abgeschraubten Beinen denkbar, doch ist dies nicht obligatorisch gefordert.
