His life was a constant struggle with adversity, and Joplin died relatively young in 1917, at the dawn of the recording age. Here, the famous Waltz is arranged for Solo Viola and Piano, directly from the orchestral score. The first performance of the ballet was in St Petersburg in 1890. Like his other ballets, Sleeping Beauty was slow to gain popularity with the public and international recognition only came after Tchaikovsky’s death.
