Folksong can be said to be music that contains the life and soul of the country and ancestors, and “Arirang†has a very important meaning in that it is a folk song representing Korea.Following the fast introduction of 4 bars in 3/4 time, it is connected in the form of 5 variations in 6/8 time. The main melody of “Arirang†is exchanged with each other as if having a conversation with violin and Piano, And followed by a cadenza that boasts the splendid skills of the solo Violin, and after the wide and solemn finale, the same 3/4 time as the beginning. Folk songs are traditional songs that are passed down among the general public. It reflects the culture, customs, and emotions of each region and has diverse content and rhythm. “Monggeumpo Taryeong(It is also called “Jangsangot Taryeong)†is a traditional Korean folk song handed down from the Hwanghae region. “Monggeumpo†is a port, and the beach here is famous for its white sandy beaches, lush forests, and Rosa rugosa flowers. The content of this folk song consists of a sad melody and lyrics, and it contains the joys and sorrows of the fishermen's lives and the sorrowful feelings waiting for the safe return of a loved one who went out to catch fish. This music is composed in the A-B-A format. The sad part is located in the middle of the music, and the beginning and end parts were composed in an exciting atmosphere. It is usually played to the traditional Korean “jungmori†rhythm, which is also quoted throughout the piece. The attached music file was played on the violin and only the first part was played. This is just for reference.

Published by Han-Ki Kim (A0.518944). Viola Sonata Sonata No.2 “Ong Hye Ya†The first movement is in 3/4 time, and in normal sonata form, there are two contrasting themes. In this movement, there is a contrast between the oriental and western characteristics. The first theme is oriental and the second theme is characterized by a Western character. The second movement is in 4/4 time, and it is composed in ABA format in which the theme of a slow nature is exchanged between instruments. The third movement is in 3/8 time, and the lively and humorous theme A and the slow B theme are written in ABA format. The 4th movement is in the form of a variation in which the theme of “Ong Heaâ€, the nickname of the sonata seen in 4/4/time, is cited. An exciting conversation continues. The colorful arpeggio and colorful bariolage are used to heighten the musical atmosphere. This theme originated in Kungsangdo province, south Korea. The meanning of “Ong Hye Ya†is the sound of peoples harvesting barleys. Excited reaction word of on old Korean mostly used in traditional folk songs to uplift the hard work of harvesting. Adapted melodie for this music is the theme of the art song Star Keeper(Poem by “Gye-seok Takâ€) composed by “Junhee Limâ€. So far, melodic line is concerned, mostly the Korean pentatonic scale “Do re mi so la†is used. The overall framework is an introduction/theme and three variations/cadenza/finale/end. Through the theme, it creates a musical updraft up to the second variation, and in the third variation, a relaxed atmosphere, and then a cadenza singing a conversation between a mother who sings a lullaby and a baby who is enjoying her dream comes out. The figure of the mother is the theme melody played with the G string, and the figure of the child is the cheerful high notes composed of the first five notes of the theme, “Mi Re Do Re Mi.†It then ends with a brilliant finale and a short conclusion. Viola Sonata No.1 “KangKangSullae†For Viola and Piano Sonata No. 1 has the name “KangKangSullaeâ€, and the composer is like any other composer. “What does it mean to be Korean music?†With the question, he is trying to compose such works. A Korean work means a work that contains Korean emotions and spirit, and the melody of “KangKangSullae†has been handed down through a long history to this day, so it can be said that it is a keepsake containing the soul of Korea. With this in mind, the theme of “KangKangSullae†was cited in the 4th movement, and it was named as a representative name for the sonata as an element that forms the basic character of this movement. For reference, the origin of “KangKangSullae†is from women's circular dance. It was because they valued the relationship between each other. They held hands, sang and danced, and it was a representative event to commemorate the full moon and the harvest. The first movement is in 6/8 time, and two contrasting themes, masculine and feminine, appear in normal sonata form. But, in this sonata, two contrasting themes, eastern and western, develop. The second movement crosses the natural harmonics of the violin and the normal playing method in 4/4 time, and expresses oriental excellence and emotion. The third movement is composed in a short ABA form with a humorous lightness and weight in 3/8 time. The fourth movement quoted the theme of “KangKangSullae†in 8/12 time, and was composed in the form of variations that change with various personalities, sometimes solemnly, sometimes sobbing, calmly, etc.

Published by Han-Ki Kim (A0.557046). “Korean Simple Suite†No.3 For Viola and Piano Op.273C As far as melodies are concerned, the traditional 5 notes of Korean “Do.Re.Mi.Sol.La†are mainly used. It consists of five movements as follows: I tried to express the wedding ceremony of the bride and groom held in a traditional Korean front yard and the surrounding scenery. So, this piece's nick name is Happy Wedding. And Attached music file is only 1st mov. played by Violin just for a reference. 1. The Front Yard 2. Yeonji Gonzi 3. Joyful Dance 4. Waiting (Longing) 5. The Bride and Groom Movement 1, The Front Yard: In G minor in 8/12 time, it is a short song with a bright atmosphere. The front yard is a friendly place for villagers' gatherings and events. Movement 2, Yeonzi – Gonzi: In G major in 4/4 time, natural harmonics are used to describe the mysterious oriental atmosphere. The meaning of Yeonji Gonji is the red dot on the cheeks and forehead of the bride in a traditional wedding ceremony. Movement 3, Joyful Dance: 3/4 time B flat major, composed in ABA format, expressed the joy of dancing in Korea. Movement 4, Longing: In G minor in 6/4 time, we tried to express oriental waiting. Movement 5, The Bride and Groom : It is composed of 4/4 time and 6/4 time, and like the title of the title of Groom and Bride, it shows the contrasting character of liveliness and calm. It was composed in a rondo style that goes back and forth between D minor and F major.
