The Wedding Album is a collection of four beautiful and timeless wedding favourites, arranged for Solo Trombone in Bb (Treble Clef) with Piano accompaniment. Whether for that Special Day, for a recital, or for your own entertainment, these arrangements are ideal for players at an intermediate level or higher. The 24-page file includes the piano accompaniments and the separate solo parts at the end. Ave Maria was written by Franz Schubert in 1825 as the sixth song in his song cycle based on Walter Scott’s poem The Lady of the Lake. It is perhaps the best known of all his melodies, adapted for piano by Franz Liszt, and for orchestra many times since. It is often sung with the Latin lyrics of the Catholic hymn of the same name and has been heard everywhere from the Disney movie Fantasia to the funeral of J.F. Kennedy. The Bridal March was written by Richard Wagner in 1850, scored for orchestra and chorus, and opening the third act of his opera, Lohingren. It is best known in the English-speaking world as Here Comes the Bride. Queen Victoria’s daughter used the music for her marriage in 1858, and its popularity has endured ever since.The Prince of Denmark’s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremonies. It was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop. Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard. Felix Mendelssohn’s Wedding March was originally written in 1842 as incidental music to Shakespeare’s famousplay, Midsummer Night’s Dream. When Queen Victoria’s daughter used the music for her marriage in 1858, it became instantly popular and has remained a wedding favourite ever since.These four arrangements are also available as single titles for $3.99 each. It was published just after its premiere in December of that year, and I am very glad that it has been played by a number of trombone quartets since then. Following its publication, a female trombonist uttered, “Although quartet is fun, it would be also enjoyable if it was played solo, wouldn’t it? “ and this brought the opportunity for this “solo trombone version” to be born.The whole work consists of three pieces. They were written based on my impression of each place when I visited them. 1. Kamakura: In the Hydrangea Temple I visited Meigetsu-in Temple, which is well-known as “Hydrangea Temple,” on a rainy day in June. There I saw colorful beautiful hydrangeas in full bloom, struck by gentle rain. The motif which is repeated many times in the piece represents each hydrangea. 2. Nara: Consecration of the Great Buddda Among the Great Buddhas all over, Rushana-butsu in Todai-ji Temple in Nara, which is 16 meters tall, is the most famous.I imagined the solemn scene of the Consecration Mass of Great Buddha. 3. Kyoto: The Golden Pavilion in the Sunset It was toward dusk when I visited the Rokuon-ji Temple, known as “Temple of Golden Pavilion,” which was built by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, the third shogun in the Muromachi period. It shined like gold in the light reflected by the setting sun.It was fun for me to arrange the trombone quartet into solo trombone with piano, and I chose every single note carefully while building the relationship between the trombone and piano. I hope the audience will enjoy a different experience from the original quartet. I hope this work, born by Zipangu Quartet, will be loved by more people beyond the frame of its original setting. Performance Time: 12’00” PROFILE: Keiko Takashima Keiko Takashima was born in Takamatsu, Kagawa in 1962 and grew up mainly in Hiroshima.She began taking piano lessons at the age of four and enjoyed chorus as a club activity in junior and senior high school. She started learning harmony and composition theory while she was in high school and enrolled in the composition department at Tokyo University of the Arts of Music in 1982. After graduation, in the wake of providing new arrangements of CHANSON JAPONAISE (YUYAKE-KOYAKE) and FANTASIE (WARABE-UTA) as encore pieces for the Paris Trombone Quartet for their first tour to Japan, she has written many works for trombone.Her repertoire for trombone quartet includes PASSEPIED, MEMORIES, SQUARE DANCE, THREE ANCIENT CAPITALS, THE INTERSECTION OF CROSSING PATHS, SONG OF HOMETOWN, JAPANESE FOUR SEASONS, DOGWOOD PRAYER, and BEYOND THE SANDY HILL. The Wedding Album is a collection of four beautiful and timeless wedding favourites, arranged for Solo Trombone with Piano accompaniment. Whether for that Special Day, for a recital, or for your own entertainment, these arrangements are ideal for players at an intermediate level or higher. The 24-page file includes the piano accompaniments and the separate solo parts at the end. Ave Maria was written by Franz Schubert in 1825 as the sixth song in his song cycle based on Walter Scott’s poem The Lady of the Lake. It is perhaps the best known of all his melodies, adapted for piano by Franz Liszt, and for orchestra many times since. It is often sung with the Latin lyrics of the Catholic hymn of the same name and has been heard everywhere from the Disney movie Fantasia to the funeral of J.F. Kennedy. The Bridal March was written by Richard Wagner in 1850, scored for orchestra and chorus, and opening the third act of his opera, Lohingren. It is best known in the English-speaking world as Here Comes the Bride. Queen Victoria’s daughter used the music for her marriage in 1858, and its popularity has endured ever since.The Prince of Denmark’s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremonies. It was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop. Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard. Felix Mendelssohn’s Wedding March was originally written in 1842 as incidental music to Shakespeare’s famousplay, Midsummer Night’s Dream. When Queen Victoria’s daughter used the music for her marriage in 1858, it became instantly popular and has remained a wedding favourite ever since.These four arrangements are also available as single titles for $3.99 each. Tosca is an opera in three acts by the Italian composer Giacomo Puccini. The opera is set in June 1800 in Rome, and tells the story of the Kingdom of Naples and the threat to its control of Rome by Napoleon’s invasion of Italy. Some of Puccini’s best-known arias can be found in Tosca.The opera is based on Victorien Sardou’s dramatic play of the same name (La Tosca). Puccini saw the play at least twice in 1889 and begged his publisher, Giulio Ricordi, to obtain the rights to turn it into an opera, which were secured in 1891 – although Puccini relinquished the rights to Alberto Franchetti before being recommissioned in 1895. Puccini wrote “I see in this Tosca the opera I need, with no overblown proportions, no elaborate spectacle, nor will it call for the usual excessive amount of music.” It took 4 years to write, with Puccini arguing with his librettists (Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa) and his publisher. Although the first performance was delayed by a day due to the unrest in Rome at the time, the opera was premiered on 14 January 1900 at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome. The critics reviews were indifferent, but it was an immediate success with the public. The opera is through-composed, with the different musical elements weaved from piece to piece. Puccini used the Wagner’s leitmotif concept to identity different parts of the opera.Taken from Act 3, E lucevan le stelle is sung by Cavaradossi, a painter, who has fallen for the singer Tosca. The corrupt Chief of Police, Baron Scarpia, longs for Tosca himself and, upon suspecting Cavaradossi of helping a political prisoner escape, he takes the opportunity to get rid of Cavaradossi and blackmail Tosca into being with him. The guards lead Cavaradossi to the roof of Castel Sant'Angelo, where he is told he has 1 hour to live before being executed. He asks to write a letter to Tosca, overcome by memories, he sings E lucevan le stelle (And the starts shone). It was selected by the tenor Wynne Evans as one of the most romantic songs for his top ten arias for Classic FM. He described it as “another tenor classic, both tragic and beautiful.”This arrangement (for solo euphonium and piano accompaniment) includes an alternative part for euphonium in treble clef.
