Phil Beaman #3539585. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844556). Robert Franz was a Romantic Era composer of lieder (German Art Song) whose pieces were highly praised by Schumann. When I removed the important lyrics from Feast of Love in order to make an accompanied instrumental solo I needed to convey the passionate drama just in the music. I changed a simple strophic form into an ABA Coda with every verse getting a different treatment. My harmony is much richer and more varied than the original. I added new articulations, dynamics, and other markings as well as a cadenza for one of the bridges. Excellent piece for a student to learn Romantic characteristics of expression, phrase shaping, and sempre rubato. This song is also excellent for Weddings. Alternative translations of the title are Celebration of Love and Love's Fire. You can definitely feel the fire and passion in this beautiful piece!This arrangement is not difficult to play, but is marked Early Intermediate because it requires musicianship to play well.3 minutes4 pages score, 2 page solo partTemporary recording of piano reduction of full score.

I Write the Songs is a popular song written by Bruce Johnston in 1975 and made famous by Barry Manilow. Manilow's version reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in January 1976[2] after spending two weeks atop the Billboard adult contemporary chart in December 1975.[3] It won a Grammy Award for Song of the Year and was nominated for Record of the Year in 1977.[3] Billboard ranked it as the No. 13 song of 1976.[4]The original version was recorded by The Captain & Tennille, who worked with Johnston in the early 1970s with The Beach Boys. It appears on their 1975 album, Love Will Keep Us Together. The first release of I Write the Songs as a single was by then teen-idol David Cassidy from his 1975 solo album The Higher They Climb, which was also produced by Bruce Johnston. Cassidy's version reached #11 on the UK Singles Chart in August of that year.[5]Johnston has stated that, for him, the I in the song is God,[2] and that songs come from the spirit of creativity in all of us. He has said that the song is not about his Beach Boys bandmate Brian Wilson.[6]Manilow was initially reluctant to record the song, stating in his autobiography Sweet Life: The problem with the song was that if you didn't listen carefully to the lyric, you would think that the singer was singing about himself. It could be misinterpreted as a monumental ego trip.[3] After persuasion by Clive Davis, then president of Arista Records, Manilow recorded the song, and his version of I Write the Songs was the first single taken from the album Tryin' to Get the Feeling. The composer of the music, John Lunn, won two Primetime Emmys for the hauntingly beautiful score. I have arranged this wonderful piece for other solo players and piano, as well as for string quartet/string orchestra. The 30 sec clip is done on Sibelius software as I have not yet been able to record this piece live, but if you search my Youtube Channel, Skinny Black Dogs, Capriccio Quartet, Downton Abbey, you can see and hear the live version. The harmony and structure is exactly the same. Though I am a pianist and string player, a trombonist assure me that this is a great key for a trombonist! Make sure that you grow through the phrases with your pianist. It is a piece that requires a great deal of ebb and flow with lots of crescendo and diminuendo throughout for you to feel together! It was published just after its premiere in December of that year, and I am very glad that it has been played by a number of trombone quartets since then. Following its publication, a female trombonist uttered, “Although quartet is fun, it would be also enjoyable if it was played solo, wouldn’t it? “ and this brought the opportunity for this “solo trombone version” to be born.The whole work consists of three pieces. They were written based on my impression of each place when I visited them. 1. Kamakura: In the Hydrangea Temple I visited Meigetsu-in Temple, which is well-known as “Hydrangea Temple,” on a rainy day in June. There I saw colorful beautiful hydrangeas in full bloom, struck by gentle rain. The motif which is repeated many times in the piece represents each hydrangea. 2. Nara: Consecration of the Great Buddda Among the Great Buddhas all over, Rushana-butsu in Todai-ji Temple in Nara, which is 16 meters tall, is the most famous.I imagined the solemn scene of the Consecration Mass of Great Buddha. 3. Kyoto: The Golden Pavilion in the Sunset It was toward dusk when I visited the Rokuon-ji Temple, known as “Temple of Golden Pavilion,” which was built by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, the third shogun in the Muromachi period. It shined like gold in the light reflected by the setting sun.It was fun for me to arrange the trombone quartet into solo trombone with piano, and I chose every single note carefully while building the relationship between the trombone and piano. I hope the audience will enjoy a different experience from the original quartet. I hope this work, born by Zipangu Quartet, will be loved by more people beyond the frame of its original setting. Performance Time: 12’00” PROFILE: Keiko Takashima Keiko Takashima was born in Takamatsu, Kagawa in 1962 and grew up mainly in Hiroshima.She began taking piano lessons at the age of four and enjoyed chorus as a club activity in junior and senior high school. She started learning harmony and composition theory while she was in high school and enrolled in the composition department at Tokyo University of the Arts of Music in 1982. After graduation, in the wake of providing new arrangements of CHANSON JAPONAISE (YUYAKE-KOYAKE) and FANTASIE (WARABE-UTA) as encore pieces for the Paris Trombone Quartet for their first tour to Japan, she has written many works for trombone.Her repertoire for trombone quartet includes PASSEPIED, MEMORIES, SQUARE DANCE, THREE ANCIENT CAPITALS, THE INTERSECTION OF CROSSING PATHS, SONG OF HOMETOWN, JAPANESE FOUR SEASONS, DOGWOOD PRAYER, and BEYOND THE SANDY HILL. She also wrote for solo trombone and piano: FANTASY ON ITSUKI LULLABY, which is included in Mr. Michel Becquet’s solo album, as well as BREEZE IN THE HEARTS - BLOOM IN THE WORLD, IN THE QUIET OF THE NIGHT, and HEAR THE SPRING CALLING. Her choral works are TOKI-SOBA (for mixed chorus) based on Japanese comic storytelling, LOVE IN KYOTO (suite for female chorus, lyrics by Madoka Mayuzumi), and FLOWER TIDING (lyrics by Urara Takahashi). PIANO RECITAL STORY, a suite for piano, is also on sale at PTNA Musse.jp (a music delivery service on the Internet).Ms. Takashima also wrote the fanfares for the opening and closing ceremonies at the National Sports Festival, held in Hiroshima in 1998.
