A very famous aria (Ombra mai fu) from XerxesSuitable for any venue requiring meditative music. Excellent choice for a recital encore. Xerxes Xerxes is, in fact, an opera seria in three acts by Handel. Moreover, Handel conducted the premiere performance in London in 1738. Handel casts the opera in Persia in 470 BC. The part of Xerxes was indeed originally sung by a soprano castrato. Nowadays, the part is generally sung by a mezzo-soprano or conversely a counter-tenor. In the first place, Xerxes sings an opening aria, Ombra mai fu to a plane tree. Handel sets this aria to one of his most truly famous melodies. Although many refer to it traditionally as Handel’s Largo, Handel has, on the contrary, clearly marked Larghetto in the score. Handel Background George Frideric Handel (1685 - 1759) was born in Germany but eventually became a British citizen. Nonetheless, he was a famous Baroque composer. In fact, he became famous for his operas, oratorios, anthems, and organ concertos. Handel studied music and, by and large, worked as a composer in Germany and Italy before moving to London. Overall, Handel was very familiar with the contemporary music of Italy and Germany. Career in England It is important to realize that Italian opera was all the rage in England at the time. Moreover, Handel was really good at writing them. Therefore, he started not one but three opera companies in England. Alexander's Feast was a huge success in 1736, but Handel nevertheless began composing English choral works. After success with the Messiah in 1742) he certainly never again wrote an Italian opera. Consequently, he died in 1759, a treasured genius. Accordingly, the English government gave him full state honors at his funeral. Hence, he is buried in Westminster Abbey in London. Legacy Music historians agree that Handel was one of the greatest composers of the Baroque era.  To demonstrate, his works such as the Messiah, Water Music, and Music for the Royal Fireworks remain consistently popular up to the present time. He composed the coronation anthem, Zadok the Priest for the coronation of George II. Nevertheless, it has specifically been performed at every succeeding British coronation since. His oratorio Solomon has by all means also continued to be prevalent. As a matter of fact, Sinfonia from act 3 was featured in the 2012 London Olympics opening ceremony. Handel was particularly prolific. To enumerate, he wrote over forty operas.  Since the late 1960s, we have expressly experienced a revival of baroque music. Similarly, we have seen a pique of interest in historically informed musical performances. Since his death in 1779, interest in Handel's music has all in all, expanded. Â

He directs the performers to follow on to the next section, indicating that these movements were intended as a whole. From a mood of delicate expression, through eloquent and lively to fiery and urgent, this is a compelling and intriguing work. The Fantasy Pieces are full of Romanticism and thoughtfulness to make it an important and entertaining work. David Fetter's brilliant new work Situation Update - Suite for Tenor Trombone and Piano is written in three contrasting movements totalling almost 11 minutes in length: 1. Swift 2. Longing 3. Exit Music Swift is marked Intense and is very rhythmic and angular. Longing is a beautiful lyrical movement marked Cantabile and Exit Music is marked Lively mixing chromatic, lyrical and syncopated segments, ending in a giant climax. Both the solo and accompaniment parts are written for advanced performers. The work's premier was performed in 2015 by retired Principal Trombonist of the Boston Symphony, Ronald Barron and accompanied at the Piano by composer Eric Ewazen. Here is what Mr. Ewazen has said about Situation Update: I had the pleasure of hearing Ron Barron play David Fetter's exciting and virtuosic new work for Trombone and Piano, Situation Update. David's music allows the Trombonist to sing and soar in 3 contrasting movements filled with vivid colors, beautiful and expressive harmonies, and a wonderful flowing rhythmic energy. The outer movements crackle with energy, showcasing the amazing technique of soloist Ron Barron, as the melodic line shifts and changes with playful abandon, while the middle movement is heartfelt and lyrical, with beautiful melodic lines, supported by resonant, gorgeous harmonies. The work is a real tour de force and rightly deserves to take its place as a significant addition to the Trombone repertoire.

Ralph Sauer has beautifully edited 13 Bel Canto studies for Tenor Trombone by three Italian operatic masters: Rossini, Bellini and Donizetti. These studies are the in the style of vocalises, (having no words) and can be performed unaccompanied, or with their original accompaniments. The Bel Canto studies which are in bass clef, are from the same era as the famous Bordogni studies and can be used by intermediate performers. These 13 works are a wonderful addition to the Trombone repertoire and can be performed on recitals, auditions and juries.

The original title of the work was Romance and Allegro and is one of the first major works of importance for the valve horn. In arranging this work for Tenor Trombone, Mr. Morales-Matos has transposed the key down a third into F major from A-flat making the highest note a D. This exquisite piece of music is about 9 minutes in length and suitable for advanced performers.

Gustav Mahler wrote the song cycle Kindertotenlieder (Songs on the Death of Children) in 1904 for voice and orchestra. The lyrics are from a group of 428 poems by Friedrich Rückert. Mahler chose five of the poems to set to music. The music is very intimate, expressive and mournful. Erik Saras and Charles Vernon have beautifully transcribed and edited the complete work of 25 minutes length for Tenor or Bass Trombone and Piano accompaniment for moderately advanced level performers.

The Concertpiece ends with an eloquent Epilog which sums up the entire work. Movement I is titled Intrada and is mostly in an Allegro Tempo.<BR> Movement II is titled Romanza marked Moderato e rubato Movement III is titled Danza Rustica and moves with quick rhythmic energy. Movement IV is titled Epilog, slow and evocative in nature. Concertpiece is about 27 minutes in length and can be performed by advanced musicians.

It will probably be less easy for you to understand than for me to explain it to you; for you are, I think, the most perfect example of feminine impenetrability that could possibly be found. We had spent a long day together, and it had seemed to me short. We had promised one another that we would think the same thoughts and that our two souls should become one soul; a dream which is not original, after all, except that, dreamed by all men, it has been realised by none. In the evening you were a little tired, and you sat down outside a new café at the corner of a new boulevard, still littered with plaster and already displaying proudly its unfinished splendours. The café glittered.
