Thérèse BRENET, born 22 October 1935 in Paris, France began her musical studies at a very early age, receiving her first prize in Piano from the Conservatoire de Reims.At the Paris Conservatory, her prinicipal teachers were Jean Rivier, Darius Milhaud, Maurice Duruflé, Noël Gallon and Henri Dutilleux and she obtained First Prizes in Harmony, Counterpoint, and Fugue. She finished her studies in 1965, receiving a First Prize in Orchestration, A First Prize with highest honors in Composition and the First Grand Prix de Rome in musical composition.She also won the Halphen Prize for Composition and the Fugue, a grant from the Coplay Foundation of Chigaco and was named honorable member of the National Academy of History of Reims. In 1971, she received the Stéphane Chapelier-Clergue-Gabriel Marie Prize from the SACEM and in 1973, the Silver Medal from the City of Paris.After her stay at the French Academy at the Villa Médicis in Rome, Thérèse Brenet undertook several post-graduate voyages for study, notably to Poland. Upon her return in Paris in 1970, she was immediately named to the Faculty of the Paris Conservatory (CNSMD de Paris) where she also was frequently part of the juries for music theory and composition, as well as electroacoustical music.Thérèse Brenet receiving her definitive SACEM membership from Georges Auric She retired from the Paris Conservatory in 2000 and has since devoted her time to musical composition. She uses both tonal and atonal musical language, which she uses to suit her personal style. Her works are strongly influenced by literature, by painting and by science (especially astronomy). She believes that a composer should use all technical means at his or her disposal and use them rather than be used by them.Her first commission from the French National Radio, Clamavit, for Narrator, Chorus and Orchestra which was premièred by the Orchestre Lyrique de l'O.R.T.F., under the direction of André Girard, with Michel Bouquet as the Narrator, was selected to represent France in the Composer's Forum of 'U.N.E.S.C.O., and was performed in many countries. Many other works have also been performed outside of France in countries such as Switzerland, England, Germany, Belgium, Ireland, the former Yugoslavia, Italy, Portugal, the Netherlands, Libya, Canada, Uruguay, Japan and the United States etc...

Un dÃa soleado, se le apareció un pequeño pájaro. Mayúscula sorpresa se llevó al enterarse de que ese pájaro era en realidad un dragón cambiaformas. Ella quedó cautivada por él.2) Mariposa del invierno: El dragón se hace humano y se le declara a la princesa. Le dice que la ama. Ella le contesta que lo ama, pero que su mano está prometida, y que su matrimonio traerÃa estabilidad polÃtica al reino. No podÃa corresponder al amor del dragón, pero aún asà estuvieron juntos un rato.3) Vals Bizarre: Tras haber sufrido el frÃo beso de la mariposa del invierno, el dragón habÃa agonizado y visto su muerte. Se logró salvar y recuperarse gracias a su amor por ella. No obstante, ella ya no estaba. El vals Bizarre suena en sus encuentros y desencuentros.4) Tango del diablo: Las tensiones entre ambos son cada vez mayores. Ella ya no puede estar con él, el tiempo la sofoca. Entonces, el dragón y la princesa bailan el apasionado tango del diablo, persiguiéndose con miedo a encontrarse.5) Himno de despedida angelical: El dragón se queda en la montaña, y de repente los ángeles lo encuentran. Los ángeles, como tributo a Dios, pretenden matarlo para que no amenace a la humanidad. Empieza entonces una batalla frenética con los ángeles volando por todos lados, tratando de atacar a un dragón que recibÃa y repartÃa mucho daño. Todos los ángeles murieron tras cantar su himno. El dragón quedó herido de gravedad.6) Marcha fúnebre: La princesa se iba en tren a otra ciudad a casarse. HabÃan pasado meses desde que dejó de ver al dragón. La última vez que vio algo fue meses atrás. Tuvo miedo por él. Por su parte, el dragón no tenÃa fuerzas y estaba muy herido. Se acurrucó y se preparó para dormir. Entrando al sueño, comienza a viajar, a proyectarse y encontrar a su amada princesa. Ella, cabeceando, sintió en su cabeza la voz de su amado dragón. Le contó que estaba herido, y que encontraba que la vida no tenÃa sentido. Que los dragones revivÃan cada cierto tiempo, y que sin ella nada serÃa lo mismo. Ella le cantó a su vez que lo amaba, y que tenÃa que salvarse. Pero el dragón fue claro. DormirÃa cientos de años, y nadie iba a detenerlo.A la distancia, la princesa alcanzó a ver la última llamarada en señal de despedida.

Practicing and performing Four Hispanic Children’s Songs, give young music students a good opportunity to start expressing lyricism or to start playing beautiful melodic lines imitating the expressiveness of the human voice. Four Hispanic Children’s Songs can be programmed on student concerts, or solo music recitals in schools. Also, professional musician can perform Four Hispanic Children’s Songs on recitals, educative concerts or entertainment concerts programmed for children. Four Hispanic Children’s Songs is a four movements piece based on 18th Century children songs from Spain that became parts of the Hispano American heritage. It was arranged as a song cycle, with march textures that accompany the melody to allow a better learning and rehearsing process in class. --------------------------------- Sobre la pieza: En muchas ocasiones, los grandes músicos transcriben y ejecutan ciclos de canciones de artes compuestos por Brahms, Schubert, Schumann, or Rachmaninoff con la intención de expresar lirismo o tocar bellas lÃneas melódicas imitando la expresividad de la voz humana con sus instrumentos musicales. El practicar y tocar la música de Four Hispanic Children’s Songs (Cuatro Canciones Infantiles Hispanas) brinda a los jóvenes estudiantes de música, una buena oportunidad para comenzar a expresar lirismo o de tocar melodÃas expresivas como si fuera un cantante. Four Hispanic Children’s Songs puede ser programada y presentada en conciertos de estudiantes, o recitales de música solista en escuelas.
