This wonderful little gem was written by Czech-born Rudolf Friml (1879-1972) as a piano solo.  In addition to being a composer, he was also a pianist.  He studied piano and composition in Prague with Antonin Dvořák.  After he was expelled from the conservatory for performing without permission, Friml eventually found himself in America, where he worked for the Metropolitan Opera.  His best-known work is the operetta, Rose-Marie.Originally titled, Suite Mignonne, I re-titled it Dainty “Little†Suite because it’s just so cute!  There are six little pieces in this work that are not difficult, but they are melodic and easy-going.Scored for C flute and piano.Duration: 8’45â€.

Published by Atlas Nash (A0.1031107). This is a lively arrangement of the Allegro theme taken from the 1st movement of Haydn's Symphony No. 104 - one of Haydn's London symphonies. The allegro is arranged here for flute and piano, but can easily be played on violin or other instruments suited to the range. The range of the flute part is from C-sharp5 (octave above middle C), to a high E (E6) - a range that would approximately suite a flautist at Grade 3 level - upper end of easy/beginner. The piano accompaniment has been arranged to be at the higher end of easy - with some more complex elements including octave and running quaver passages. Dynamics and articulation have been added in as a guide only. This download includes a score and separate flute part. The original work was written in 1795 while Haydn was living in London and was premiered to great acclaim. It remains a popular choice today for concerts around the world. This arrangement could work nicely alongside an arrangement of the second movement - or as part of a medley of short pieces in a concert. The expected duration of the piece is likely to be between 1.5 to 2 minutes long, though the arrangement can be played at a tempo suiting the individual performer. The pieces are intended as supplementary material to your usual tutor books. The music can be used with any number of players and the pieces remain in the lower register. Several early pieces use only the notes B, A and G and the key of G major predominates. Six of the pieces use only half notes (minims) and quarter notes (crotchets). The low C, a tricky note for many beginners, has been avoided almost completely. On the one occasion it appears, the note C an octave above is given as optional. Although the pieces are arranged in approximate order of difficulty you can play them in any order you want, depending on the musical needs of the student. Your students are sure to enjoy these pieces, which are both easy on the fingers and easy on the ear! The music is identical to that in the companion book My Recorder and Me. Several pieces have a few measures (bars) rest in the middle not only to give the player a break and add musical contrast but also to give the experience of counting empty bars during the music. When space allows, piano cues appear in the solo part. Some of the later pieces in the book have good performing potential and could be strung together in any order to create a small suite. Every piece has a short piano introduction so that the student can sense the tempo and musical style before playing. The keyboard accompaniments have been kept as simple as possible with the minimum number of notes. In 1870 he moved from Lyon, the town of his birth, to Paris and became titular organist at Saint-Sulpice. In 1890 Widor succeeded César Franck as professor of organ studies at the Paris Conservatoire, where six years later he was appointed professor of composition, too. Alongside orchestral works, solo concertos, vocal pieces and chamber music, Widor’s most important musical achievement was his contribution to the genre of the organ symphony. His Suite op. 34 for flute and piano, structured around a Romance (1881) and composed for Paul Taffanel, may be considered as marking the beginning of the modern French flute school: here for the first time a composition makes full use of the bright tone of the Böhm flute, as introduced to the music world by Taffanel and his pupils. This Sérénade op. 65 is the arrangement of a duo for harmonium and organ. No further information about the arranger has been found. Plate no. 27148 / published in 1903.

Commissioned by the Dutch physician and amateur musician Ferdinand Dejean, Mozart wrote his two solo concertos in 1777/78 during a stay in Mannheim. As the middle movement of the Concerto in G major KV 313 supposedly was too difficult for the client – with regard to the playing technique and/or music – the composer wrote an alternative version, 'Andante' KV 315 (285e). This nice individual movement is now presented in a carefully edited new edition, with a cadenza of the editor – a serenade-like setting that offers the soloist many possibilities for cantabile playing.
