The song tells of a knife-wielding criminal of the London underworld from the musical named Macheath, the Mack the Knife of the title.The song has become a popular standard recorded by many artists after it was recorded by Louis Armstrong in 1955 with translated lyrics by Marc Blitzstein. Ferling was a German born composer and oboist who is probably best known for his 48 Etudes for Oboe. These pieces are still regularly studied and performed by both oboists and saxophonists. The 3 Duo Concertants, of which this is the first, predate the Etudes as they were first published in 1829. This lovely duo will be enjoyed by the players and the audience.
