Alto Saxophone Duet - Advanced Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by David McKeown. Latin Jazz, World, Latin, South American, Afro- Brazilian. Score. 8 pages. Published by David McKeown
Samba de Simão is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Alto Saxophones.
This duet is based on the style of Samba. With roots in West African music, modern Samba emerged in Rio de Janiero, Brazil at the beginning of the twentieth century. There are many forms, both sung and instrumental, and the Samba rhythm has found its way around the world into jazz and modern electronic pop and dance music. Samba has become a cultural symbol of Brazil, with Rio’s famous Samba schools producing theatrical and ultra-professional showpieces for the annual carnival.
If you play to an advanced intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. Rhythms should be lightly articulated, the melody should always flow, the two underlying strong beats in each bar should always be felt, and following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. Samba de Simão has a performance time of two and a half minutes. Follow the link above to listen to a complete YouTube performance of the Clarinet version of Samba de Simão.

Alto Saxophone Duet Alto Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.588469 Composed by David McKeown. Concert,Latin,Standards,World. 2 scores. 8 pages. David McKeown #5743985. Published by David McKeown (A0.588469). Merengue de MerlÃn is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Alto Saxophones. This duet is based on the traditional Latin style of Merengue that emerged in the Dominican Republic during the Nineteenth Century. Merengue Tipico bands maintain the traditional instrumentation of the double-headed tambora drum, güira, accordion and vocal, while urban bands in the North American diaspora often add saxophone, bass and other percussion. The Merengue dance became hugely popular in the 1950s and new forms continue to draw audiences around the world. If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The steady quintilla tambora rhythm is present throughout, and following the precise articulation in the score will help convey the style. The main challenge is the fast tempo and melodies should be clearly articulated. Merengue de MerlÃn has a performance time of around two and a half minutes at full tempo. Published by David McKeown (A0.589010). Rumba de Ruth is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Tenor Saxophones. This duet is based on the traditional Rumba street music of Cuba. Rumberos sing semi-improvised melodies over the Rumba clave rhythm with other percussion added, and the accompanying dance is an integral part of the performance. Soprano Saxophone Duet Soprano Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.588965 Composed by David McKeown. Concert,Latin,Standards,World. Score. 6 pages. David McKeown #5733615. Published by David McKeown (A0.588965). Rumba de Ruth is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Soprano Saxophones. This duet is based on the traditional Rumba street music of Cuba. Rumberos sing semi-improvised melodies over the Rumba clave rhythm with other percussion added, and the accompanying dance is an integral part of the performance. The rhythms of Cuban Rumba have travelled all over the world, providing the foundations for Son and Salsa and the ballroom Rhumba among many other styles. If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The steady clave rhythm is implied throughout, and following the precise articulation in the score will help convey the style of the Rumba. Melodies are clearly articulated and played with passion. Rumba de Ruth has a performance time of just under three minutes. Alto Saxophone Duet Alto Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.588472 Composed by David McKeown. Concert,Jazz,Latin,World. 2 scores. 7 pages. David McKeown #5776653. Published by David McKeown (A0.588472). Salsa de Shibby is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Alto Saxophones. This duet is based on the style of Salsa. The name Salsa was first used in 1960s New York to describe the popular and commercial dance music made by Latin emigrés in the city. Most of the musical and structural ideas came straight from Cuban Son Montuno, but the lack of one single traditional root has allowed musicians from different Latin American countries to bring their own flavours to the music. Given the tensions between the US and Cuba, there have been accusations of cultural appropriation and Cubans dislike the word Salsa, but there is no denying the music’s worldwide appeal. If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. Rhythms should be lightly articulated, the melody should always flow, and following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. Salsa de Shibby has a performance time of just over two and a half minutes. David McKeown #5755307. Published by David McKeown (A0.588403). Joropo de Justina is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Soprano and one Alto Saxophone. This duet is based on the traditional Latin style of Joropo which is the national and traditional music of Venezuela. The music and its accompanying dance comes from the central plains area and is also found over the border in parts of Colombia. The basic pulse of the Joropo is 3, but this is overlaid with complex cross-rhythms. The main instrument is the harp, along with cuatro and maracas as the only percussion instrument. In the modern era other instruments may join the ensemble, especially bass. This arrangement represents the song style of Joropo, with the vocal alternating with instrumental breaks. If you play to an advanced intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece.
