Fifteen Arrangements of Traditional Tunes from Cornwall arranged for Lever harps tuned in Eb, Bb or F, or any pedal harp.  Guitar chords included, with duo parts for Flute or Violin.These tunes have been placed in progressive key order to create a satisfying “Cornish suite†that facilitates lever and pedal changes. All tunes were typeset to fix exactly on two facing pages to eliminate any page turns within a piece.Guitar chords are included so that the melody may be played by any C instrument, accompanied by chords on harp, lute, guitar, or keyboard. Also, the transcribed harp part can be played on any keyboard instrument with only minor adjustments. Only one song in this collection, #6, has any lever or pedal changes (B-flat and B-natural). Otherwise, there are only lever or pedal presets in preparation for the next song. Dynamic markings, fingerings, metronome markings, breath marks, and lever/pedal changes are provided throughout. However, the musicians should use whichever expressive markings and lever/pedal adjustments suit them, no matter what this book indicates! Due to space constraints, first and second endings were only indicated above the flute/violin part in the full score and dynamics only within the harp part; but these markings apply to both instruments. (However, all markings are indicated on the separate instrumental leaflet.) This entire book of arrangements can be played on a harp of only 26 strings (3.5 octaves), from low C to high G. Simply treat the C two octaves below middle C as the lowest C on your harp and adjust the octaves accordingly. The folk melody, named Hallelujah or Good Shepherd, appeared in 1813 in A Repository of Sacred Music, Part Second published by John Wyeth in Pennsylvania. Wyeth was a compiler of music for the purpose of publishing, not a musician. The tune of the hymn is called Nettleton. Asahel Nettleton was an evangelist from Connecticut who worked in New England. There is no indication that he wrote any music. The first appearance of this melody with the Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing lyrics was published by Darius Jones in 1852. Charles Ives used this folk melody in two of his compositions: First String Quartet and the song The Innate.This duet is in the key of D. The melody is divided evenly between parts. It was a celebration of the toast made by Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I during a visit to German Kaiser Wilhelm II. The toast stressed the necessity of bonds of friendship between the two nations. Mr Simrock suggested changing the title to Kaiser-Waltzer to please the two emperors. However, when it was published, only the Austrian Imperial crown was emblazoned on the title page! This stunning arrangement has both a pedal harp and lever harp version that is intended to be performed together. They only differ in the pedal/lever markings and an occasional harmony note. The dynamics are clearly marked. The Harp Ensemble would perform for 2 hours each evening as guests arrived at the UW-Eau Claire’s annual Viennese Ball in the student center (1998-2016). The invitation was extended due to the fact that Eduard Strauss, the youngest Strauss, was a harpist. He conducted his own orchestra from his harp and toured the United States.

The Ball season of 1867 was particularly challenging to the Strauss brothers and their orchestras due to the defeat the previous summer by the Prussian army and cancellation of that Ball season. Johann met the challenge with first presenting The Blue Danube and then three weeks later giving the Ball attendees its twin, Artist’s Life. This autobiographical piece starts slow, as if just waking up, but once the Waltzes start, it’s all fun.  This arrangement has four out of five of the original Waltzes with all the Waltzes and sections marked to make creating a shorter version easier. It has both a pedal harp and lever harp version that is intended to be performed together. They only differ in the pedal/lever markings and an occasional harmony note. The dynamics are clearly marked.

The words of this hymn that we know today first appeared in 1758 in a collection of poetry used in a church meeting in Cambridge, UK. The folk melody, named Hallelujah or Good Shepherd, appeared in 1813 in A Repository of Sacred Music, Part Second published by John Wyeth in Pennsylvania. Wyeth was a compiler of music for the purpose of publishing, not a musician. The tune of the hymn is called Nettleton. Asahel Nettleton was an evangelist from Connecticut who worked in New England. There is no indication that he wrote any music. The first appearance of this melody with the Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing lyrics was published by Darius Jones in 1852. Charles Ives used this folk melody in two of his compositions: First String Quartet and the song The Innate.This duet is in the key of D. The melody is divided evenly between parts. Dynamics are clearly marked.
