Mozart composed a lovely theme and variations on this melody for piano in 1781 (K. 265/300e).This is an exhilarating arrangement for violin and cello. GENERAL PREFACE – ΓΕÎΙΚΟΣ ΠΡΟΛΟΓΟΣThis edition of violin and violoncello duets follows closely my publication of the same Greek folk pieces for classical guitar. The arrangements for guitar solo were written in two-part counterpoint and followed the strophic form of the folk songs involved. The melodic transcriptions of the folk melodies were not based in any particular performance, also avoiding the elaborate in many cases instrumental introductions associated with these songs. Thus, only the vocal melodies in a general recognizable version were presented. This new presentation for instrumental duets will stay with this generalised melodic version (without exploiting the instrumental introductions), but the form from strophic will become ternary (ABA). Here is an easy instrumental duet arrangement (for VIOLIN and CELLO) of the classic Thanksgiving tune NUN DANKET ALLE GOTT by Johann Cruger. This song is fun for both parts and is a welcome addition to recitals and worship services throughout the year, but especially during the Thanksgiving season.The VIOLIN leads with the melody for the first verse and then the VIOLIN and CELLO alternate leading with the melody for the second verse. All notes for both the VIOLIN and CELLO are playable in the first position making this arrangement an excellent choice for early-intermediate string players. This arrangement is in the key of F major which will develop skill using low and/or high fingerings. Also, the timing may be a little tricky at first since there are measures with 5/4 instead of the more conventional use of fermatas.
