Published by Connie Boss (A0.1335072). I put a twist on Jolly Old Saint Nicholas. I added verses and a different melody along with the familiar melody of Jolly Old Saint Nicholas. This song starts off with a child waiting patiently in line to see Santa so he can tell him what he wishes for him to bring him for Christmas. I started off with my own original melody and lyrics and then in the middle of the song, when the child finally reaches Santa, I switch to the melody of Jolly Old Saint Nicholas. However, to modernize it, I switched to Jolly Old Dear Santa Claus. I kept verse one lyrics the same except for that part. I changed the lyrics entirely for the second verse. The child tells Santa where he can put the presents and hopes one is for him. He also tells him he tries to wait up for him each year, but Santa is so quiet, he sleeps through the night. The last verse is back to my original melody and lyrics where Santa tells him it will be a surprise what he brings him this year. This brings the song all the way from waiting in line to see Santa to sitting on his knee and Santa telling him it will be a surprise. It has a Celtic feel and the songs are from several different countries - United States, Ireland, England, France, Germany, Scotland, Italy. There are 8 songs included, 2 originals, 2 medleys and 4 songs that you know and love included also. All of the songs are in SATB with an (optional) accent instrument part (choice of flute, violin or cello - parts included at the end of each score) - the score has the flute part so you can see where the accent instrument fits into the score. A simple piano part is included in each score. The voices and accent instruments help to complete the entire piece. You can also purchase individual songs on here separately if you choose to not purchase the whole cantata. However, it is a bargain to purchase the cantata. There are narration parts before each song that give a little history of the song. You can opt out of using them if desired. The titles of the songs are: 1. Baby, Jesus, Was Born Unto This Earth. When an acquaintance of mine, Gay Tregaskis, sent me a poem she’d written and told me the story behind it, I was honored to be able to put her beautiful and touching words to music. The story is best told in her own words: When I was expecting my first baby, I wanted an antique rocking chair. I found one listed in the newspaper that said, ‘old, but loved.’ I remember going to look at it with my husband in November. It was old and worn… the seat springs were broken, the fabric was faded and torn. I loved it! We bought it for a forgotten amount and my sweet mother-in-law had it repaired and re-upholstered for my Christmas gift. Our little son was born on January 31st. I spent hours and hours just rocking God’s little miracle. On Mother’s Day that year, I woke up and just began writing. There were only one or two lines I shifted. It felt like all the babes and parents who ever sat in the old chair wanted me and mommies-to-be to understand the precious moments spent rocking and bonding. It still brings tears to my eyes. These words are a gift given to me for my children and all who they touch. Our moments to share pass on fleet feet… especially with our children. Paul Addison #726936. Published by Paul Addison (A0.1126233). Seeds Along the Way is a musical about the life of the biblical King David, written by Paul Addison. David gets to see the major events of his life with the help of his guardian angel, Gabrielle. This manner of storytelling combines elements of It’s a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol, and the old TV show This Is Your Life. Each event in David’s life is told through a song. It was originally written as a VBS (Vacation Bible School) musical. Although everyone in Israel is singing his praises, David questions the purpose of his life. Gabrielle shows him that everyone’s life is important, and that the good things that we do are like seeds planted along the way, which may not sprout and grow until much later. After reviewing his past, David is given a glimpse of the future, and realizes that he is one of many who are preparing for the coming of Jesus Christ. The musical is based on the stories from the Bible, mainly from 1 and 2 Samuel, but also including a Psalm and a geneaology listing from Matthew. David throws in a couple of bad puns as he tries to understand what Gabrielle is trying to tell him. The accompaniment is written for piano, but is appropriate for a praise team or a small dance band. The styles are quite varied, including cha-cha, pop, bossa nova, ballad, dirge, blues, jazz, and waltz. The piano accompaniment could be supplemented by percussion instruments (tambourine, maracas, woodblock, cowbell, etc.), as well as guitar, saxophone, and drums. The songs are at an Easy Intermediate level. The only stage requirements are a small balcony or elevated level with a railing or fence, and a floor area for the chorus. The musical consists of 10 scenes, but the two narrator characters remain on the balcony, and the floor area only needs to be changed in case the chorus members use different costumes and/or props for the different scenes.
