About this Piano/Vocal/Guitar arrangement of “I Ain’t Worried†This One Republic hit from the sound track of “Top Gun:Maverik†is a catchy tune to learn. This piano, guitar and vocal arrangement will help you learn the song “I Aint Worried.†The key is in F major and included is the lead sheet so this can be given to another instrumentalist or singer to perform along. The distinct features in the song, the bass and the hook I have kept close to the recording on the track. I have done some slight adjustments for the piano accompaniment to break up and differentiate the different sections otherwise it would be very repetitive. It is a very simple song in essence, a four chord riff and rhythmic motif that breaks for the bridge section. The rhythm isn’t the simplest for the bass part that permeates the song however it is repetitive which means once that is learned you have practically mastered the whole song. There is a lot of back and forward in the music to the chorus which jumps to different parts. I have tried to simplify this by using boxed text to identify each section clearly and indicate when you should jump to each section. Using first, second and third time bars with D.S and coda markings cluttered the music up and made it seem more complicated. So I hope this editorial decision to use boxed text makes it clearer. Apostolos Paraskevas is a classical guitarist and composer as well as an award-winning film director and producer. He has received multiple international awards for his compositions and was nominated for a Grammy Award. He is the only guitarist ever to have a major orchestral piece performed at Carnegie Hall under the direction of Lukas Foss––and the only musician who has performed there in a Grim Reaper outfit. He was the founder and served for 16 years as the artistic director of the International Guitar Congress-Festival of Corfu, Greece. He is a voting member of the Recording Academy (Grammys). After his undergraduate music studies in Volos he pursued advanced studies in classical guitar with Costas Cotsiolis (diploma, 1990) and Leo Brouwer (Havana 1984, 1988), as well as postgraduate studies in composition with Lukas Foss and Theodore Antoniou (DMA in composition, Boston University, 1998). Paraskevas embarked on a successful career as a guitar soloist and contemporary composer, achieving distinctions in both disciplines: Grammy nomination for Chase Dance (Bridge Records, 1999); first prize for Night Wanderings (Lukas Foss Composition Competition, 2000); first prize for Phygein Adynaton (National Composers Conference, 1997); and numerous prestigious commissions, performances, and publications. Following teaching posts at Northeastern and Boston Universities, Paraskevas has taught since 2001 at the Berklee College of Music in Boston (professor of composition and classical guitar). His eclectic compositional style arises as an idiosyncratic integration of seemingly conflicting influences – from avant-garde approaches to harmonic structure, form, and timbre, to pop-folk modal and rhythmical concepts – amalgamated into a personal evocative musical language, characterized by rhythmic verve, melodic grace, dramatic (and sometimes unexpectedly humorous) gestures, and ritualistic or theatrical elements. Stewart (A0.1211317). “What If I Seek for Love†(1601), by English composer Robert Jones (c.1577-1617), who was one of the most prolific composers and lutenists of his day.  Of the more popular musical forms of English Renaissance (the late 15th century to the early 1600’s) was the lute song: a piece for single voice accompanied by the lute.  Most lute songs are about love and tended to be a rather melancholy affair with disdainful ladies refusing to acknowledge the ardent advances of hopeful lovers – as is “What If I Seek for Loveâ€.  This 2023 setting is scored for solo voice and keyboard accompaniment.  The simple melody and poetry of Jones is retained and embellished with the piano accompaniment.  This is an excellent piece for young singers, introducing them to style, form and technique.  Performance time: 1:30+-.

THIS IS AN ORIGINAL (simple) SONG I WROTE FOR MY MOM AND SISTER To be clear, it is a prayer written in musical form. I guess that makes it a psalm. A few nights ago I was feeling the pain of so many people around the globe who are suffering due to the pandemic. I was inspired to sit down and write an simple song of comfort for them-for us. The very same evening I started writing the song, unbeknownst to me, my sister was being taken to the hospital where she collapsed of heart failure and was life-flighted to the nearest cardiovascular facility.They put her on life support (ECMO and ventilator) to let her heart and lungs rest. Two days later, due to complications with circulation in her leg she had to be rushed into emergency surgery to pull the catheter from the artery leading to her heart. This required taking her off of life support four days earlier than they had planned. We were informed she may not make it. Thanks to thousands of people praying for her, and her own indomitable spirit, she pulled through-but not without more complications.A fever kicked in and lack of circulation in her other leg caused even more concern. Her heart and body were suffering greatly. As we prayed (and thousands of you from around the world prayed with us) I kept massaging and nuancing the exact melody line I wanted, at the same time interweaving various lyrics to intuit what felt right. I wanted this to be a song anyone could sing for their beloved family member or friend who was struggling. Every note, every syllable had to land just right-as if it was meant to be.Through all this my mother was going through her own bit of personal anguish. We were basically waiting for my sister to die. Due to COVID regulations nobody, not even family, could visit her in ICU. My mother bought a plane ticket... just in case. We hoped beyond hope that, If she died, she would not die alone. I wanted to finish this song by Mother's Day to share with my mother and my dear struggling sister who is also a mother of 5. I finished it and sang it through tears on Mother's Day. I have many friends show speak Spanish who are going through very difficult times due to COVID-19 and the subsequent quarantine. The second time through is a carefully crafted Spanish translation. I hope to hear people singing this far and wide with, to and for each other.

The sound track was brought to us by none other than Finneas O'connell, Billie Eilish. This arrangement of the main song on the soundtrack, Nobody like U, is for piano, voice and guitar. The key is in Am With this arrangement you will get the piano and vocal part, 7 pages, and the voice part with chords/lyrics separately acting as a lead sheet which is useful for all types of performers who do not necessarily need the whole piano part. This keeps paper usage at minimum and means the whole song can be laid out side by side without the need for page turns. The piano arrangement is very easy, mainly a heavily repeated chordal rhythmic motif. The most difficult part is in the left hand for the change in the bass line. There is also a large section of the song that is purely percussive in the backing. In one instance this is simply marked indicating when the piano drops and the accompanist could clap/beat box in this section if desired or if playing with a drummer just let them have the spot light. The song also finishes with only percussive backing, for this final section to give an idea of this I've changed the rhythm to a simple staccato beat on 2 and 4 so that if this was performed with only a pianist and singer there was some appropriate melodic backing that seemed percussive through the use of the staccato. The vocal part is close to the audio however I have omitted most of the vocal runs that happen between sections. These can be included in the performance should the singer decide to. I have only included the opening vocal run passage. In some areas I have simplified the melody, retaining the rough melodic shape but simplifying the rhythm. These can be sung as written or adjusted to the performers taste. I hope you enjoy this arrangement of Nobody Like U for piano, vocal and guitar and I hope it serves as a versatile arrangement for many purposes. This song starts off with a child waiting patiently in line to see Santa so he can tell him what he wishes for him to bring him for Christmas. I started off with my own original melody and lyrics and then in the middle of the song, when the child finally reaches Santa, I switch to the melody of Jolly Old Saint Nicholas. However, to modernize it, I switched to Jolly Old Dear Santa Claus. I kept verse one lyrics the same except for that part. I changed the lyrics entirely for the second verse. The child tells Santa where he can put the presents and hopes one is for him. He also tells him he tries to wait up for him each year, but Santa is so quiet, he sleeps through the night. The last verse is back to my original melody and lyrics where Santa tells him it will be a surprise what he brings him this year. This brings the song all the way from waiting in line to see Santa to sitting on his knee and Santa telling him it will be a surprise. We Are Your Creation is a new piece of liturgical service music that functions beautifully as a musical Prayer of Confession or Renewal of Faith for any Sunday in Ordinary Time. It is also appropriate for use as a hymn within your Sunday worship service if you'd like to feature Creation Time or Creation Care, Epiphany, Graduation/Confirmation, Life Stages/Changes, Deepening Discipleship and Spirituality, or a Repentance and Reconciliation theme. The lyrics reference Psalm 139:1-12. The lyrics also draw from a stanza of Stuart Kestenbaum's poem Holding the Light (used with the author's permission). The lyrics are gently trinitarian (God, Jesus, Spirit), offering worshippers the opportunity to confess with honesty and integrity, while simultaneously singing with the hopeful confidence of our faith, trusting in God's restorative goodness and grace.The melody line of this piece has a lovely, lilting (Celtic) feel, and the key is set in F Major. It is simple, yet highly singable, and suitable for average congregational vocal ranges. The piano and guitar scores are highly accessible for beginner accompanists and early intermediate instrumentalists alike. This melody may become an earworm and your congregation or choir will enjoy singing it, again and again! I wrote this reconciliation hymn back in 2016, when elders from the Blood Tribe, Metis, Piikani, and Siksika nations of Southern Alberta led the Reconciliation Week events at Medicine Hat College, in Medicine Hat, Alberta. They invited me to write and teach this hymn as part of the sessions at MHC, where I was (then) the ecumenical Chaplain. It has been an honour to participate in this annual tradition of indigenous leaders sharing their distinctive cultural practices, traditions, and values with the public in Medicine Hat (and the surrounding communities) for a decade, now. During the session I was asked to assist with, the Elders were sharing the Seven Grandfathers' Teachings, and so I included these core values into the lyrics of the hymn. The work in Medicine Hat started with expressions of lament and support from a group of local churches and the Medicine Hat College Chaplaincy program while the Truth and Reconciliation Commission was crossing the country. We quickly realized that many non-indigenous Canadians genuinely wanted to learn more about their First Nations, Metis, and Inuit neighbours. Seeing an urgent need for greater awareness about the intergenerational damage that was done by the Indian Residential School system here in Canada, and also identifying these Reconciliation events as a way to decrease racist stereotypes and assumptions about indigenous peoples, we decided to continue offering an annual reconciliation session, which grew, year by year. A decade later, I'm delighted to have seen deeper, healthier relationships being built between indigenous and non-indigenous people. Musically, this hymn loosely imitates the style of the French Canadian Voyageurs, the folk melodies of the 18th and 19th centuries. The lyrics incorporate the Seven Grandfathers' Teachings. This core ethical framework has many different versions, but many First Nations communities have adopted these teachings in some form. (I've heard Elders say that Respect must come first, because it is the foundation that we build on, but for this particular group at Medicine Hat College, Humility was first on the list). I have Metis ancestry myself, and as an adult, I have researched the long-hidden genealogical and cultural treasures of my family tree. Whether you are an indigenous person looking to support other indigenous Christian composers, or whether you are a non-indigenous person who is trying to broaden the repertoire of your congregation, We Must Learn to Walk Together is an upbeat, hope-filled hymn that sings about reconciliation as if it is not only possible in the distant future - but also achievable today, using the concrete steps suggested by the lyrics. The indigenous wisdom of the Seven Grandfathers' Teachings lines up beautifully with the teachings of Christ. Musically, this hymn is highly accessible for congregational singing; the range is moderate and the rhythms provide musical interest without becoming overly complex; to hear the guitar version and melody line of the hymn being played and sung by the composer, please go to the following YouTube link: https://youtu.be/3DpkFCLxgEs. The musical format of the hymn alternates between the chorus and three verses. The piece takes roughly 3:30 to perform. This hymn has been transcribed in the key of C Major, so it is as easy as possible for church accompanists to play and for congregations to sing; guitarists are invited to play in the key of A Major and simply capo 3. Guitar chords are included. I hope and pray that this hymn for reconciliation will help you, your congregation, and the wider community to think about, pray for, and enact the calls to action of the Canadian Truth and Reconciliation Commission in new and deeper ways this year.
