This arrangement adapted for clarinet and bassoon duet was written keeping the characteristics of the original work, in order to be performed by young music students who want to enter the symphonic music. Besides, it can also be used by professional musicians for recitals, repertoire, academic presentations and didactic material. The transcription remains faithful to the structure, with only one change in tone, so that it is comfortable for all the instruments in the formation, as well as being used as an activity in ensemble practice among musicians of different traditions. Beethoven's Turkish March (Op. 113) is the 4th movement of the operatic work: The Ruins of Athens, a set of incidental pieces written in 1812 by Ludwig van Beethoven, where the melody was originally written in 1809 as Theme with Six Variations for Piano, Op. 76. The work was written to accompany the play of the same name by August von Kotzebue, for the dedication of a new theater in Pest. Perhaps the best known part of the composition is the Marcia alla turca, In Latin America, this movement became known in Jean-Jacques Perrey's version (who titled it The Elephant never Forgets) since it was used as the opening theme of the successful Mexican TV comedy El Chavo del Ocho. The opening and the turkish march are often performed separately, and the other pieces in this set are not often heard.

It was written in honor of Pope Pius IX who was the Pope at that time. Liszt himself was then living in a monastery outside of Rome and had recently take Orders. For about 10 years he was in the religious phase of his life where he wrote sacred music. This piece was written for piano solo, but Liszt liked it so much that he did a version for pipe organ and soon thereafter a version for piano duet and then for chorus and orchestra.

This easy arrangement for clarinet and bassoon duet was written to be uncomplicated to perform and understand the structure of the piece. It can be freely played by beginning students, because of the ease imposed on the piece; however, this does not prevent it from being played by professionals and music teachers. It is also ideal for academic recitals, student method and ceremonies that are arranged in the same way as the piece contains. The original piece is part of Johann Sebastian Bach's Suite No. 3 for orchestra, in D Major, BWV 1068, written for Prince Leopold of Anhalt. The so-called Air on the G String dates from one of these latter employments. In the service of the Prince of Cöthen, Bach composed not only the famous Brandenburg Concertos, but also several orchestral suites, from the third of which comes the Air on the G String. This curious title derives from a later arrangement of this piece for violin solo, in which the melody is played entirely on the lower, higher string of the instrument.

Slavonic Dances Op 46, written in 1878, was something of a breakthrough work for Czech composer Antonin Dvorak, finally establishing his reputation well beyond his native land. The dances are original melodies, inspired by, and drawing on, the character of traditional national dances, rather than works based on existing folk tunes, as was the fashion among composers at around that time. These Slavonic Dances were originally written for piano 4 hands but, at his publisher’s request, Dvorak produced orchestrated versions shortly thereafter. The pieces proved so popular that Dvorak composed a second set, Op. 72, in 1886. Op. 46, No. 3 is in the form of the polka, a dance which originated in Bohemia. This arrangement, for mixed woodwind duo of B-flat clarinet and bassoon, is best suited to players of advanced intermediate standard or above.

Träumerei (Dreaming) has been described as one of the most famous piano works ever written. It is one of a collection of short pieces, entitled Kinderscenen (Scenes from Childhood) written in 1838. The Wild Horseman (literally ‘the wild rider’) features in a collection of 43 short piano pieces ‘für die Jugend’, written in 1848. At the time, Schumann had three daughters under eight years old, who perhaps inspired him to compose with young beginners in mind. Although the first part of the collection is suited to novice pianists, the later items (pieces 19 – 43) are more challenging and are labelled ‘für Erwachsenere’ – ‘for the more grown-up’. The Wild Horseman is number 8 in the collection, making it one of the ‘child-friendly’ pieces. In arranging it for the clarinet and bassoon combination, some extra difficulty, in the form of running accompaniment passages, has been added. This explains its classification as 'intermediate'.

The lovely, flowing melodies and rhythms are typical of Boccherini. The quintet is suitable for both concerts and home performances.

Due to life’s normal pressures, the work still awaits its long awaited for premiere.It has three movements, fast, slow, fast, and a total duration of approximately 15 minutes. The clarinet part is for Bflat clarinet.I have also transcribed the bassoon part for bass clarinet so the piece can be played by either combination. It could even be played by two bass clarinets, which would be hilarious!I feel, as a player myself, that its main challenge is in sheer breathing and playing stamina as it certainly gets you working up a sweat by the end, but its comical, quirky character will hopefully make it great fun for players and audience alike.

The transcription is faithful to the structure, with only one change of key, so that it is comfortable for all the instruments in the formation, as well as for use in ensemble practice between musicians of different traditions. Ludwig van Beethoven began concentrated work on his Symphony No. 7 in A major Op. 92 in 1811, it was completed in 1812, and was dedicated to Count Moritz von Fries, and premiered in Vienna on December 8, 1813. It is considered a remarkable example of the more ebullient side of Beethoven's compositional personality and evidence that even after the onset of deafness, he still found cause for musical optimism. The second movement Allegretto is a funeral march in everything but name. Often several contrasting melodic ideas are made to coexist, as if Beethoven were imagining several processions converging on the cemetery at the same time. As he was working on this symphony during the years of the Napoleonic Wars, this experience was probably within his experience. It was also used as the soundtrack to the film Knowing, by director Alex Proyas and starring Nicolas Cage, where it is used in the final scene of the film.
